(10/18/10 – New Smyrna Speedway) The Staff and Management of New Smyrna Speedway are pleased to announce that Speed51.com will provide the official media coverage of the 45th Annual Florida Governor’s Cup 200 presented by Bright House Networks. Coverage will include exclusive behind-the-scenes reporting throughout the two-day event and will culminate with a live internet-based Radio Broadcast on RaceTalkRadio.com as well as Speed51’s trademark Trackside Now real-time reporting.
Speed51.com has long been the official media outlet for the annual World Series of Asphalt Stock Car racing which runs 9-straight nights each February at the famed half-mile, as well as providing extensive coverage of the biggest short-track racing events throughout the Country.
This year’s event will once again feature the two-day format that was introduced in 2009 with a special Limited Late Model 50 lap race on Friday Night presented by Discount Propane (11/19) along with season ending races for the FASCAR Weekly Racing Divisions and Practice Rounds for the Super Late Models.
The 200 lap Florida Governor’s Cup for the Super Late Models will take place on Saturday (11/20), along with features for the local Pro Trucks, Sportsman and Strictly Stock divisions.
Bright House Networks will once again return as the presenting sponsor for the Cup and Noritz Tempaco has signed on as the title sponsor of the final leg of the Florida Triple Crown. Associate sponsors to date include; Progressive Racing Engines, TnT Custom Marine, Murray’s Speed & Custom and REV Racing Engine Valves.
Entry forms for Super Late Models, are available online at www.NewSmyrnaSpeedway.org. Pre-Entries are already being received, including defending Governor’s Cup Champion Tim Russell, who in 2009 became just the 2nd second-generation driver to etch his name on the coveted Al Keller Trophy. David Russell, Tim’s father won the Cup back in 1995, while the elder Russell’s teammate, Pete Orr took the honors back-to-back the two previous years in ‘93 and ‘94. The only other multi-generational wins in the forty-four prior races were by veteran Dick Anderson (’88-’89) and son Wayne Anderson (’99, ’03, ’08).
Laps Sponsorships for the 45th Annual Florida Governor’s Cup 200 are currently being sold for $100.00/lap with 100% of the money being added to the total purse. If all 200 laps are sold, the purse will be increased by $20,000.00 to be distributed throughout the field. The big money was on the line Saturday night at Auburndale Speedway as the Late Models and a huge crowd were on hand and enjoyed not only some spectacular weather, but an awesome Late Model race that saw Jeff Scofield play a waiting game, then come away with the victory and the 2010 Auburndale Speedway Late Model point championship.
A field of 25 top Late Model teams ran a very close qualifying session with Tim Russell setting quick time at 13.433 seconds closely followed by Anthony Campi at 13.529 and Scofield at 13.533. Joe Boyd and Daniel Webster rounded out the top five in time trials. (more…)
