OCALA, FL- Florida’s historic Ocala Speedway will be back in action this Friday night as the Pepsi Wheel of Fortune will spin to determine which racing division gets to share extra cash, courtesy of the official soft drinks of Ocala Speedway. Five divisions will be in action as well, including the Colortyme Modifieds, Tee Pee Tire Hobby Stocks, Amsoil Synthetic Lubricants Thunder Stocks, the Mini Stocks, and the Gladiators.
Thanks to weather issues during the early part of the 2010 racing season, the Colortyme Modifieds have not had much in the way of track time so far this year, and the point standings are literally neck and neck. Devin Dixon is on top of the points list, but Jeff Mathews, Kyle Owen, Roger Crouse, Kyle Bronson, and Chip “Hollywood” Owen, are all within ten points of overtaking him. Garrett Stewart, Wayne Hammond, and John Bradley, are within 15 points of Dixon, and Tim Zackery is just 21 points out of first place. And with the standings that tight, Friday night’s results could seriously scramble the top ten of the points standings, and provide us with a new points leader.
The Tee Pee Tire Hobby Stocks saw action last Friday, but the race did not count toward the season points race. Two of the top three in the standings are quite happy about that while one may not be so pleased, as Dean Jarvis remains at the top with Heath Walker just one point behind. Daniel Miller Jr remains in the third spot at 16 points in back of Jarvis, while Jody Wells and Sean Babcock are tied at 20 points out of first. This Friday’s race will count, so look for some shuffling around to happen in the points depending on the finishing order.
Michael Stalnaker is another racer who is happy that the races last Friday did not count toward the Amsoil V8 Thunder Stock season points race, as his tangle with Jessie Corbitt knocked both racers out of action. So Stalnaker remains the points leader with Jerrid Bennett trailing by 9 and Augie Burttram just 14 points back. And while the wild night of racing may not have shaken up the points battle, it did manage to rattle a few cages and bang up some race cars, which could be a factor this Friday when everyone returns to the track. Stalnaker wants to return to his winning ways, but a host of other racers hope to stand in his way.
Ocala Speedway’s Mini Stocks will return to action after some time off this Friday, with Dan and Nick Kerr holding onto the top two rungs of the points ladder, and with defending champion Paul Combast right behind them. Those three racers are all within 5 points of each other, while racers like Keith Briggs, Mike Budka, and Michael Oglesby, all remain within striking distance. This will be the Mini Stocks’ first race under their new rules package, as the racers and Ocala Speedway owner Mike Peters work together to make the division more competitive.
Casey Feaster seems to have taken control of the Ocala Speedway Gladiator Division over the past month, but his win from this past Friday does not count toward the 2010 points so he remains in fifth place going into this week’s race. Steven Johnson still is the points leader as Devin Walker follows at 7 points shy of first place. Kody Fisher remains consistent and holds onto the third spot at 11 in back of Johnson. So the question will be can Feaster remain the dominant force in the division, or will someone step up and take him down a notch or two?
The grandstand gate will open at 5PM on Friday night with racing action beginning at 8PM. For directions to the speedway, or information on prices or scheduled events, please visit www.OcalaSpeedway.com, or call 352-622-9400.

Auburndale, FL (May 8, 2010) It was a great Mothers Day weekend at Auburndale Speedway with a good crowd of fans, great weather and some very close racing action.
The Auburndale Race Trucks were back in action for the second time this year with a much bigger field that required a pair of heats to set the feature race line-up. Tim Sozio and Keith Lilley topped the qualifiers and made up row one of the 25 lap main event.
Lilley let it be known in a hurry that he had the truck to beat as he sped to a quick lead and began to set a blistering pace. The race behind him was what the fans were watching as Sozio had both Roger Blevins and J.R. Garcia glued to his tail gate. (more…)

It was a great night for racing at the super speedway tonight, the weather was perfect and the fans and drivers and officials showed up ready to go ‘racin’. The Open Wheel Modified race provided lots of action but there were several minutes of intense concern as the #64 car driven by Phil Morrison hit the front stretch wall very hard and Morrison was unconscious for several minutes. When Morrison finally regained consciousness the EMS had him stay still in his seat for several more minutes. It was a scary situation for everybody. Morrison exited the car and did not want to go to the hospital to be checked out.
In other action, Johns Stewart (The Mayor) won a thriller of a Junior’s Trim Shop Bomber feature race. The first half of the race it was John Stewart in the #02 car and Richard Nelson in the #80 car running side by side. As the race went on Nelson’s car appeared to get loose and he was sliding up high in the turns and Stewart took advantage and pulled ahead for good. There was a lot of action with the Bombers tonight. On lap 9 the yellow flag came out as the 04 Car of Dennis Wilson and the #49 car Of Dean Butrum rubbed and spun out and Wilson hit the wall hard then he went after Butrum. The end result of this was Dennis Wilson having to pit his car. On lap 11 another yellow flag came out as the #42 of Steve Elder, the #28 of Dave Licking and the #93 of Jeff Firestine got together and all three spun out.
The Q Auto and Injury Attorney’s Pure Stocks put on another great show for the fans tonight. The #30 of Robert Crisp, the #71 of Darren Ellis, the #3 of Duane Best and the #67 of Jimmie Best were all either side by side or bumper to bumper the entire race. Any of the four could have won this 25 lap feature race. This is one amazing division with fast, hard, clean racing.
The Sturdybuilt Flyin 4’s did some fine racing tonight. Brittany Barr lead for the first 6 laps until Randy Johnson made a clean pass and took the lead. The show was between the pink rocket #91 of Jess Ostrovskis and the #98 of Cody Allen. They were side by side for many laps but JCR Jess inched her way to the finish line and won by a fender. After spinning out and going to the rear Brittany Barr fought her way back to finish on Cody Allen’s bumper for a great 4th place.
Magic 4’s. On a not so positive note. The Magic 4’s last week had 9 participants that bumped a lot, pushed a lot, and just plain drove roughly. The officials called a required meeting of all Magic 4 drivers for tonight. Unfortunately only 2 of last week’s participants showed up for this important meeting in a clear message signaling disrespect for the officials and the track. We will all be looking to see what the officials decide in regard to the fate of this class and the privilege to participate in it. It does appear as though minimally a long vacation or the cancellation of all future Magic 4 events is a real possibility.
The following are tonight’s results:

Orlando Speedworld – 7th May 2010 by Andy Sandall
Incredible finishes for the Super Late Models and Pro Trucks had the crowd on their feet at Orlando Speedworld on Friday night as the track burst back into life with a packed schedule of racing. The supporting divisions did their part too as the campaigns for championship points moved along into May, but it was the finishes of the races that split either side of the interval that had everyone talking long into the night.
The Pro Truck race began with a terrible false start that saw cars heading into turn 1 after the green flag 4-wide and totally out of starting order, but they were quickly back around and trying a start for the 2nd time. This saw #18 Jason Rosarius dropping back into the pack from the pole position allowing his fellow front-row starter #121 Andy Leserra to take the early lead, but with the always dangerous pair of #20 Anthony Sergi and #00 Whitney Poole right on his tail. Behind them the racing was equally tight as #15 Cody Blair and #38 Ricky Moxley moved their way forward only for contact between the two cars to rip the front fender off Blair’s truck, meaning an early caution to remove the offending bodywork from the track.
The restart saw Poole take the trucks 4-wide again into turn 1 before pulling away and bringing Leserra with her, leaving Sergi fighting it out #54 Zach Harris for 3rd. A nudge from the rear by Harris would soon send Sergi high in turn 4, allowing Harris through closely followed by Blair, already up to 4th despite having restarted at the rear. With Poole still leading and looking comfortable making the running up front Harris would quickly be on the tail of Leserra and trying the same move, giving a tap to Leserra’s rear-quarter to send him high up the banked turn and allowing himself and Blair through. Now in pursuit of Poole it was Blair’s turn to move, leaning hard on Harris in turn 4 only for Harris to lose control and spin, forcing Blair to slam on his brakes to avoid an even harder hit. This would bring out the pace truck for a caution and cost Blair not only more bodywork but also position, as both he and Harris were sent to the rear.
Leserra would make a quick start once the race was back underway, but he was soon dropping back as the battle for the lead developed into Poole fending off the advances of Sergi, the young pair both pulling away from the chasing pack. The green flag run lasted just a few more laps before Leserra tangled with the unlucky Blair who was now pretty much devoid of any bodywork at all on the front half of his truck. Blair would spin out but it would be Leserra sent to the rear for being the cause of the caution. This time Sergi took the initiative from the green flag to snatch the lead, leaving Poole to fight back and try to reclaim the front spot. The race would develop over several more laps without a caution despite #17 Ken Lilley spinning out in the race for midfield positions, but the young driver was able to recover his car and continue without disrupting the action.
But the last few laps of the race provided the real excitement, all started by the battle at the front between Sergi, Poole and Harris that boiled over when Harris’s thump on Sergi span out the leader and led to both cars being sent to the rear for the restart. This now put Blair and Poole back on the front row with Leserra and #30 Sean Bass behind them, with the front-row pair taking two laps of door-to-door racing to separate them as Blair slowly nudged his nose in front. Again the race was stopped with just 5 laps to go, this time for Leserra getting too close to Bass, spinning him out on the back straight, and being sent to the rear for his troubles. Blair, Sergi and Poole would resume their fight at the front from the restart but with just 2 laps to go the race was suddenly put back under caution after reports of fluids on the track, leading to a lightning-quick inspection of Blair’s nearly naked truck to check on whether he was the offending party.
Once cleared to continue the drivers were left with a green-white-checkered sprint for the win. Blair would make a great start as the pace truck pulled off, but immediately behind him there was nothing to separate Sergi and Poole as they tore around the track absolutely side-by-side. Coming around the final turn Blair had enough breathing space to cross the line and claim a great win in a heavily damaged truck, but all eyes were on the race for 2nd, as Poole mustered all the speed she could find to win the drag race for the line out of turn 4, beating out Sergi for 2nd place by barely a nose. The race would end with Lilley making an equally desperate dive for the line, spinning out on the front straight and crossing the line spinning before coming to a rest on the bandolero track past the finish line. All in all a spectacular end to an incredible race that saw Blair beat all the odds to win, while Whitney Poole nearly capped off her birthday weekend with what would have been her first ever Pro Truck win before settling for 2nd place by a nose in a classic battle with Sergi.
The Super Late Model race that followed the brief interval also saw #20 Anthony Sergi right in the thick of the action as the young racer made his Late Model debut at Orlando Speedworld, pitting his skills against a field that included rising star #96 Ben Kennedy and Florida racing legend #92 Dick Anderson. Kennedy nearly had the worst possible start as he got stuck in the middle of the handling problems being encountered by #12 Scott McKinley on the first lap, seeing Kennedy take a glancing blow from McKinley’s car that pushed his front wheel arch down onto his tire leading to a cloud of acrid tire smoke filling the air for the early laps. An early spin for #7 Vince Keeler would be Kennedy’s savior, giving him time to rush back to the pits and get his bodywork pulled clear, returning to the track at the back of the field but thankfully still on the lead lap.
The restarts throughout the race would all provide entertainment for crowd, first with Anderson badly jumping the start and receiving a finger-wagging warning from a track official as he came back around, but this just led to the veteran showing all his experience on the next attempt as he slowed the field down to a crawl around turn 3, only to tear away once he hit the firing-point in turn 4 and draw out a massive lead over his competitors. Anderson would make all the running as the race continued under the green flag, with Kennedy making short work of the field to work his way up to 2nd place. Behind the two leaders a close race was developing for the minor places between Sergi, and Speedworld regulars #28 Mark Adams, #55 Shane Held and #89 Josh Todd, also debuting his Late Model after earning his first E-Modified win the previous week.
This race would provide the next caution of the race as the battle got too close leading to Adams and Held touching in turn 1, sending both high and hard into the upper wall and needing trips back to the pits with the assistance of the wreckers. The lengthy caution was soon over, but by now all eyes were on the bottom of the track in turn 3 – where Anderson had suddenly come to a rest and was sat in a lifeless car. Needing a push to get his car restarted, Anderson would be at the back of the field as the green flag dropped once more, leaving Kennedy and Sergi to race with #75 Don Keithley up at front as Anderson quickly made his way through. The twists and turns in this race were far from over though, as with just 5 laps to go Anderson again ground to a halt down the back straight without the momentum to freewheel back into the infield, bringing out another caution.
The veteran would need another push to make the restart but this was over as soon as it started, this time as Todd was turned around in the first corner, getting clipped by #1 Tom Root as he tried to avoid Todd’s out of control car, and ending his night early thanks to the damage sustained as the pace truck made its way out once more. The next restart would be the decisive one, as Kennedy led the cars out of turn 4 and up to race speed once more, with Sergi chasing hard and Anderson forcing his way past his rivals to make one last charge for the front. The young Sergi would now be in his sights and what would be the perfect racing line against less experienced racers was not enough to slow down the legendary Anderson, who blasted underneath the youngster out of turn 4 and was quickly reeling in Kennedy at the front.
With just one lap to go Anderson was now crawling all over the rear of Kennedy’s car as they entered the 1st turn. Kennedy fought back but Anderson was soon alongside down the back straight and pushing the #96 hard in the door. Kennedy gave as good as he got and still held his nose in front coming around turn 3 with the checkered flag being unfurled. But Anderson had one trick left in his bag, slingshotting around Kennedy out of turn 4 and screaming down onto the front straight to win the race for the line by inches over the younger driver for an incredible win in what had been an amazing race. Sergi would come home with 3rd place after a tremendous SLM track debut, meaning that although the distance between 1st and 3rd places has been barely 5 or 6 car lengths, the distance had also been 49 years – Anderson coming out of retirement this year at 63 years old to show he is as fast as ever, while Sergi continues to make his way up through the ranks at just 14 years old!
The regular divisions had ably supported the two big races with plenty of entertainment of their own. The Bandoleros had started the evening with a wreck-fest before settling down after numerous early cautions. Although the Young Gun class was won fairly comfortably by #27 Shawn Hooven ahead of #11 Daniel Conlin and brother #17 Mark Hooven, the chance of an upset was in the Bandit class. It took a last lap push from #55 Michael Held to keep up his 100% winning record this season after getting caught in the early wrecking. In this class #30 Noah Cornman would have to settle for 2nd after Held’s late charge, while #5 Derek Sobel came home a comfortable 3rd.
The E-Modified race saw the biggest field of cars for this new division of the season, bolstered by a number of new cars coming over to try their luck at Orlando. The battle at the front would be between #15x Cody Blair and #40 Michael Williams Jr. who jostled for the lead throughout the race. This set up a great battle over the last two laps as Williams closed in on Blair’s rear bumper, giving plenty of nudges to the leader as he tried to force his way through. Blair held firm, forcing Williams to move up the track and try to blast his way around the upper line, but Blair had just enough speed to hold him off and take the first win of a doubly successful night by a nose on the line.
The Mini Stocks also provided an entertaining race late in the evening as #85 Rex ‘Boneman’ Hollinger made his way forward from the rear of the pack to fight for position with #15 Casey Loeffler, #97 Kelly Jarrett and #97s Scott Jarrett as defending track champion #31 David Russell quickly shot away at the front. A midway spin for Scott Jarrett bunched the cars back together for the 2nd half of the race and allowed Kelly Jarrett to run alongside Russell as the cars got their tires back up to temperature, while Hollinger was forced to restart from the rear after a trip to the pits under caution to rectify a problem with an overheating motor.
Hollinger would quickly be back up to 3rd as Russell and Kelly Jarrett battled away for the lead, but he would inherit 2nd place quickly once the #97 pulled off the track with mechanical issues. Russell now had a comfortable lead that proved to be enough to take the win despite Hollinger’s best efforts to close the gap, and so Russell took the checkered flag for a second successive weekly wins followed by Hollinger, his car decorated in honor of his son Stephen’s 8th birthday, ahead of Scott Jarrett and Loeffler, who enjoyed a good race well off the late pace for 3rd.
In the night’s other races #66 Andy Nicholls enjoyed a comfortable win in a small field of Sportsman cars, while the Legends racers saw a little more passing before the field settled down with #71 Mason Ketterman making it two wins in two attempts at Orlando Speedworld this season, coming home well ahead of #12 Critter Saile and #8 Donovan Ponder.
The Super Stock race was dominated up front by #51 Butch Herdegen, #211 Jarrett Korpi and #3 Jeff Colburn as Herdegen took advantage of a 2nd row start to quickly make his way to a lead he would never look like surrendering. His job was made much easier with just 2 laps to go as Korpi pulled off with yet more mechanical woes, leaving Herdegen to take the win a full ¾ of a lap ahead of Colburn, the only other car left on the lead lap. Behind them #14 Kerry Bellflower would benefit from Korpi’s retirement to take 3rd place ahead of #316 Joe Bandur and #35 Ray Mullis.
The night finished as always with the Strictly Stocks, this time returning to a more traditional form of racing after last week’s trip the wrong way around the track, and it was the usual suspects making the running up at the front as #51 Wes Railing who pulled away from #8 Neil Kirby to claim a well-deserved win. Kirby came home in 2nd place ahead of #19 Ricky Solomon Jr., both drivers returning with repaired cars after sustaining damage in the race a week earlier.

BARBERVILLE, FL- After a well deserved weekend off in order to celebrate Mother’s Day, five racing divisions will return to action this Saturday night, May 15th, at Volusia Speedway Park. Saturday has been designated as “Armed Forces Night” at VSP, and all members of our armed forces, past and present, will be admitted free of charge with proper ID.
The top two racers in the Taylor Racing Products Sportsman Division took a shot at Ocala Speedway on Friday night in a $1000 to win race, and both went home with damaged race cars. Aaron Barsness is just 20 points shy of Shaun Daugharty in the VSP Sportsman points, but will have his work cut out for him to repair his car and make it competitive again after getting caught up in a turn one melee on Friday. Daugharty won on May 1st at VSP and is looking to repeat with another victory this Saturday, thus putting a bit more breathing room between himself and Barsness in the season points race.
Tim Hughes overcame a determined Mike Tovet as he won the Daytona Sportswear Street Stock feature on May 1st at Volusia, which leaves him just three points behind the leader, Phillip Brown. Meanwhile Trevor Gamble has lost some of his mojo as of late, and is now in the third spot trailing the leader by 39. Gamble’s run of lousy luck cannot last forever, especially as Tovet has stepped up his game in his absence, so look for further moves at the top of the 2010 points battle after Saturday’s race has ended.
It might seem like forever since the Amsoil Synthetic Lubricants Thunder Stocks raced at Volusia, and the truth is that their last outing was way back on April 17th in a feature race won by Luke Sadler. But if Sadler has any aspirations for catching the division points leader, Scott Mooers, he had better win a few more since Mooers has opened up a 121 point lead on Sadler. But while Mooers dominated the class along with Randy Strehle early in the season, neither have managed a win lately yet remain strong contenders with top five finishes.
Casey Feaster failed to make it back to Victory Lane on May 1st due to a mechanical glitch with his primary car forced him into a backup, but he managed to grab a fourth place finish regardless. And meanwhile the 4 Cylinder Challenger points leader, Shawn Kosier, let a turn two bobble on the last lap knock him out of a top three finish and back to a top five, but R.J. Glaser still trails him by 37 points. Glaser has turned up the wick lately and has seemingly found the answer to finishing in front of Kosier, and if Feaster does not get in his way he could be on the way to regaining the top spot in the points.
The Top Gun Sprints made their first visit of 2010 to East Bay Raceway on Saturday May 8, 2010. There were 28 cars at the track to give fans three heat races and a 25 lap feature race.
John Crowder in the 30 car had the pole with Ryan Partin in the 14 on the outside for the start of the first heat race. Ryan Partin took the lead on the start and he took the win. The 21M of Darren Miller had the pole for the start of the second heat race, but due to motor problems that put the 2 car of Rich Pratt on the pole with Clyde Poole in the 85 car on the outside. It was the 85 that made the better start and took the race lead then on came the 02 of Gene Lasker took the lead and taking the heat win. Mark Ruel Jr. in the 83 car had the pole with Keith Butler in the 19 for the start of the third and final heat race. Keith Butler took the lead, but on Lap 2 Jeanette Burnett in the 18 had a bad crash bringing out the red flag, she was ok, car not so lucky. Track crew had to repair the turn 1 gate and racing got underway again. Keith Butler held the lead for 2 more laps then the 1 of Tim George took the lead and took the heat win.
The 22 of Shawn Murray had the pole for the start of the feature race event, with the 14 of Ryan Partin alongside. After a parade lap, the race went to green and it was Gene Lasker in the 02 car that took the lead. Gene Lasker lead all of the laps till he had some problem with his car on last lap and slowed down on back stretch, and the 24 of Danny Martin went around on the outside and never looked backed and took the checkered flag, followed by Sport Allen in the 81 car was DQ in Tech, Shawn Murray in the 22 car, Tim George in the 1 car and Ryan Partin in the 14 car rounding out the top 5.
The staff and racers of the Top Gun Sprints would like to thank everyone for their support and hope to see you next race at North Florida Speedway on June 19th.

It was a perfect Florida evening for racing as around 100 cars signed in ready to battle the fast track at the Clay by the Bay. There were 5 classes in action including the down and dirty Top Gun Sprints and the wet and wild Dirt Daubers.
The Gagel’s Open Wheel Modifieds hit the track first with their 15-lap feature event. Austin Sanders had the car to beat right from the drop of the green flag. Sanders led every lap and captured his 2nd win of the season. The win was Sanders second feature win in a row. Points leader John Bradley started 9th and finished 2nd. Kyle Bronson finished 3rd. Garret Stewart and Roger Crouse rounded out the top-5. Crouse and Stewart won the heats earlier in the evening.
In the Precision Kia Street Stocks Thomas Pratt won his 4th feature win of the year and 3rd in a row after leading a majority of the laps. Pratt started 4th and quickly made his way to the front of the field. Eric Moon started back in the field in the 8th position and finished 2nd. Jarod Gay ran near the front of the field all night long and charted a 3rd place finish. Donnie Reed started 5th and finished 4th. Buck Woodhouse finished 5th. Moon and Buck Woodhouse were victorious in the heats.
The Top Gun Sprints made their return to the Clay by the Bay but before the racing action got under way in the drivers pulled their sprint cars onto the front stretch to sign autographs for the fans. Even Jeanette Burnett who went for a wild ride in the heat event was on the track signing for the fans. Once the autographs were signed and fans got to meet their favorite sprint car drivers the 25-lap feature event got underway. Gene Lasker dominated 24 of 25 laps until it appeared that he suffered a mechanical failure in turn 2 on the final lap. Danny Martin, Jr. running in second place at the time took the lead and led the final two turns to take the win which was his second in a row in the Top Gun Sprints. Shawn Murray started on the pole and finished 2nd. Tim George ran near the front all night. Ryan Partin and Clint Reynolds rounded out the top-5. Sport Allen was disqualified in post race inspection after it appeared that he finished 2nd. Partin and Lasker and were victorious in the heat races.
Motorstats.com 4 cylinder bombers were in action again as there were 38 vehicles entered in the event. In the A-Main feature event Richie Acres scored his first ever win on dirt as he held off the challenge of Troy Dittebrand. It was Acres first race ever at East Bay Raceway Park. Dittebrand finished 2nd. Kever Raulerson ran in the top-5 all night and finished 3rd. Johnnie Alexander finished 4th. The mover and shaker of the night was Robert Kissam who started 24th in the 24 car field and finished 5th.
In the B-Main 14 cars started the event as Don Quinn took the win. Roberto Morfin, Jr., Johnnie Alexander and Greg Reeves took the checkered flag in the heat events.
Randy Tyler won the wet and wild Dirt Dauber feature event.
ASA Sanctioned racing returns to East Bay Raceway Park on Saturday, May 15, 2010 with the Scott Thompson Memorial-$3800.00 to win for the Racecar Engineering Late Models. Also in action will be the Precision Kia Street Stocks, Outlaw 4’s and the Motorstats.com 4 Cylinder Bombers. For more information go to www.eastbayracewaypark.com or call the track office.
