Dude Teate Leads the Way to Victory Lane at New Smyrna Speedway

by Marty Little

NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla. – Multi time TBARA champion Dude Teate rebounded from a nasty heat race accident and won Saturday night’s 30 lap BioBased.US TBARA sprint car event at New Smyrna Speedway.

Dakotah Stephens and Bryan Riddle brought the 16 car field to the green flag but it was third starting Troy DeCaire who quickly jumped into the lead and set the pace around the half-mile oval. Meanwhile back in 12th spot Teate was taking things easy after lengthy repairs following impact with the wall in a heat race incident.
DeCaire, who has been racing in the Midwest this summer, began to stretch his margin but Teate’s car was somewhat comfortable and he began to work his way through the field.

A yellow flag on lap 11 for a broken shock on Bryan Riddle’s mount regrouped everyone and put Teate within striking distance of leader DeCaire. The green waved one lap later and the battle was on. Teate’s hastily repaired mount was up to the task as he ran down DeCaire’s purple racer and took the lead on lap 14. Once in front Teate never looked back and stretched out his margin over DeCaire to register his first victory of the season.

DeCaire never gave up and finished second ahead of pole sitter Stephens, Mickey Kempgens and Sonny Hartley. Heat race winners were Larry J. Brazil and DeCaire.

The TBARA ground pounders next head to the Gulf Coast for a doubleheader at Five Flags Speedway in Pensacola and Mobile International Speedway in Irvington, Ala. on August 27 and 28.

Feature finish (30 laps) – 1. Dude Teate, 2. Troy DeCaire, 3. Dakotah Stephens, 4. Mickey Kempgens, 5. Sonny Hartley, 6. Bo Hartley, 7. Johnny Gilbertson, 8. Larry J. Brazil, 9. Ben Fritz, 10.Bobby Rose, 11.Dan Statter, 12. Shane Butler, 13. Bryan Riddle, 14. Larry Brazil, 15. Frankie Hurst, 16. Skeeter Faulconer.

Wayne Anderson Tops Big Field of Lates at Punta Gorda Speedway

By Bill Green

Wildwood’s Wayne Anderson was in the right place at the right time and got by Dave Pletcher with just 35 laps left in it and then watched as the rear sway bar broke on the #51 of Richie Anderson during lap 110. Wayne Anderson pounced on the opportunity and took home the win. This was a classic Super Late Model duel as the veterans waited patiently for the laps to click off and then begin their assault on the top spot. Two young drivers, Brian Blum & Patrick Staropoli learned a lot in this one as they sat in the 4 & 5th spots for most of the lap, learning when to go from a few of the masters on the asphalt in front of them.

Pletcher settled for second, but “Big Daddy”, as he was known at Sunshine Speedway, was old school smart tonight. Showing a good set-up and qualifying position, followed by a level head and patience keeps you in contention for the wins that you’ll fight for in the end. (more…)

Storms Fail To Dampen Racing At Ocala

by BJ Cavin- Ocala Speedway Media

Please Note:  All Photos Courtesy of rewingphotos.com

OCALA, FL-  Any betting person would have put money on a rainout for Friday night at Ocala Speedway had they been anywhere near the place at around 5 PM that afternoon, but despite a brief heavy downpour plus plenty of thunder and lightning, the water truck still needed to be called to duty before four divisions could hit the clay.  The Colortyme Rentals Modifieds, Tee Pee Tire Hobby Stocks, Amsoil V8 Thunder Stocks, and the Gladiators replaced nature’s storminess with their own brand of rock and roll, and kept the crowd cheering throughout the night.

The Tee Pee Tire Hobby Stocks were anointed the division to open feature racing, and Daniel Miller Jr wasted no time in declaring that the 99 machine was the one to beat.  While Cory Hupp gave him a fight over it, Miller grabbed the lead and fended off Hupp’s efforts while points leader Dean Jarvis sparred with a few others behind them.  Jarvis had his hands full with a determined Philip Brown, who came to Ocala speedway looking to run at the front but had to get past Jarvis in order to get there.  Meanwhile Heath Walker was fighting to get into the top five and finally achieved that status, then immediately developed issues on the back stretch that ended his night. Owens Shows Potential at Rockingham Test with Roush Fenway Racing

Invitation Only Test Proves to be a Stepping Stone for OwensHUNTERSVILLE, N.C. (July 30, 2010) – Alli Owens has taken another stride in her career path towards racing’s top series. Owens completed a two-day test session with Roush Fenway Racing at Rockingham (N.C.) Speedway, turning fast laps at the one-mile oval and the short track among seven participants.

Owens, along with six other drivers, was invited to test with the Roush Fenway Racing R&D team on July 27 and 28 at Rockingham Speedway. The participants were tested on all aspects of a driver’s responsibilities, which included on-track and off-track undertakings.

A NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Ford Fusion housing a Nationwide Series engine was supplied by Roush Fenway Racing for the drivers to use throughout the session. Drivers Matt Kenseth and David Ragan, along with Roush Fenway Racing crew and management, were on-hand to help assess the up-and-coming talent. Drivers were gauged on their lap times, consistency, car handling diagnosis and team communication.

“It’s one thing to be invited to something like this, but another if you pay attention and take this opportunity as a tremendous learning experience,” Owens expressed.  “It seemed like I learned a world of knowledge about NASCAR Sprint Cup racing.  I gave it 110% during the two days and I’m thankful for the opportunity.”

Owens showed her potential to reach the next level while piloting the Ford in a structured test session at the half-mile oval track known as Little Rock and the one-mile Rockingham Speedway.

In addition to driving duties, Owens and the other drivers were tested in a variety of media settings. They were scored on their ability to represent a sponsor and communicate their message.

“I am so impressed with the entire Roush Fenway Racing organization,” said Owens.  “It was an honor to be invited and participate in the test. They are very careful in selecting who represents them, on and off the track, and I’m thrilled that I had the chance to work with them.

“I learned so much at the test.  The data acquisition was incredible.  It was amazing to see how detailed the information was and how the crew interpreted it.  The entire team was fantastic to work with. They were extremely professional and very talented.  I feel like I left the track a better driver than when I arrived, thanks to them.”

Owens currently pilots the No. 15 ElectrifyingCareers.com Chevrolet fielded by Venturini Motorsports in the ARCA Series. She raced Quarter Midgets, Mini Stock and Late Model series before graduating to the ARCA Series in 2008.

FAMILY FUN NIGHT FEATURES FIGURE 8’s ENDURO AND A DEMO DERBY AT AUBURNDALE SPEEDWAY

by Dave Westerman

Auburndale Speedway wraps up the month of July with a huge program in what is being billed as “Family Fun Night.” Everyone from mom, dad and the kids to grandpa and grandma are invited out for a night of great racing and fun. Fans will be treated to an Enduro race, a pair of Figure 8 races and a Demolition Derby. Plus there will be plenty of regular racing too as the Street Stocks, Legend Cars, V-8 Bombers, Scramblers, Bandoleros and Kids Club will also be in action.

The Enduro race is open to any car as long as the engine, transmission and suspension are completely and absolutely stock. The interior may be removed and all glass must be removed. The windshield can be replaced with lexan. A roll cage and fuel cell are OK. No 8 inch wheels will be allowed (7 inch max)

with a 70 series tire limit. If there are 20 or more cars, the race will be 100 laps and pay $1,000 to win. If less than 20 cars enter, the race will be 50 laps for $500 to win. There is a $50 entry fee. The Demo Derby is also open to any car providing no plating is used. Cars will go through tech inspection before the Demo to insure no plating or other reinforcement has been done.

The Pro Figure 8 race will be opened up to include all Sportsman, Street Stock and V-8 Bombers as well as the Pro-style Figure 8 cars. There will also be a Four Cylinder Figure 8 race open to all Mini Stocks other than Mod Minis.

Only one Pro Figure 8 has been run so far this year and was won by veteran criss-cross driver Jimmy Thompson. Thus he leads the point standings over Wayne Calkins and Rockin’ Rodney Davis.

Matt McCrary increased his point lead just slightly last week in the Street Stock class to 12 over Jeff Waterman. Dave Colpritt continues to lurk in third just 60 points out of first. Gerald White, Jr. also expanded his point lead in the Legend Cars following his win last week. White now holds a 12 point edge over Jake Perkins.

The Scramblers return after another week off with Kimberly Gullett still holding on to the point lead by 36 over Brian Tyre. Chad Cutting is still in the hunt for the Scrambler title as well, now just 24 points behind Tyre. Josh Borem is hoping to be back in action in the V-8 Bombers. After missing three straight weeks of racing, Borem still holds a 76 point edge on Buddy Phillips, Jr. who blew an engine during the feature race last week.

Pit gates open Saturday afternoon at 2PM and the grandstand gates open for fans at 5PM with racing getting under way at 7PM. Make sure to bring the kids as all youngsters aged 10 and under will be eligible for prizes through “Lindsey’s Little Racers.” This week there will be two Grand Prize Packs with assorted NASCAR merchandise sponsored By Martha Nemechek and Chek Ventures. Each prize pack will have a NASCAR Truck set autographed by Joe and the late John Nemechek. 20 Free Ice Creams will also be given away thanks to Street Stock drivers Dave Colpritt #4 and Jerrell Cook #46. Make sure to bring the whole family for all the fun and excitement.
