KARTS TAKE OVER AT AUBURNDALE SPEEDWAY THIS WEEK – 61 DRIVERS ELIGIBLE FOR BIG MONEY LATE MODEL RACE IN OCTOBER

by Dave Westerman

There will be no stock car racing this week at Auburndale Speedway as a special karting event takes over the facility for three days. Twenty-six different classes of karts will be racing from Friday through Saturday and fans are invited to come out and watch the shows. Adult admission is just $10.

Gates open on Friday, August 20th, at 12 noon with practice beginning at 6PM with racing to follow. Saturday and Sunday, August 21st and 22nd, gates open at 7AM with practice starting at 9AM with races following the completion of the practice sessions. A large number of karts are expected to take part during the three days of competition.

Stock car racing returns to the oval on August 28th with a nine division show. The Open Wheel Modifieds will be back in action along with the Modified Mini Stocks, Street Stocks, Legend Cars, Mini Stocks, V-8 Bombers, Scramblers and Bandoleros. The highly-competitive Southeast Champ Kart Series will also be on hand for their fourth appearance of the year at Auburndale.

Auburndale Speedway and Palm Tree Computers of Oviedo, FL have combined for a special promotion that will make one fan very happy. On the first night grandstand attendance is 1,000 persons or more, one fan will walk away with a special Auburndale Speedway lap top computer courtesy of Palm Tree Computers. So, bring some friends with you to the races next time! The winning ticket will be drawn from the regular admission rain-check stubs, so all fans will be eligible!

The next pair of bicycles given away by “Lindsey’s Little Racers” will be the 99th and 100th bikes given out to kids at the track since Lindsey Bruce and her dad Julius started the program in 2005. The next giveaway is slated for September 11th thanks to Auburndale Speedway’s fans and Gary Brown/Stellar Automotive. Auburndale Speedway would also like to thank Roger Turcott for all of his recent help with “Lindsey’s Little Racers.”

Just one Late Model race remains on September 18th for drivers to make themselves eligible for the big money Late Model race on October 16th. Posted awards for the October event are now at $22,000 and expected to grow even higher by the race date. Any driver who has raced in at least one of the Late Model events at Auburndale Speedway this year will be eligible for extra cash.

If the winning driver of the October race has already competed at Auburndale this year, that driver will take home a cool $5,000. If the driver hasn’t raced at Auburndale during 2010, the winners’ share of the purse will be $4,000, which is still not bad.

So far 61 drivers have raced in Late Model events at Auburndale Speedway this year and are eligible for the bonus money on October 16th. Those drivers are:

Florida Dirt Track News Looking for Drivers and Sponsors for 2010-2011

FDTN Media

Merritt Island, FL (August 20, 2010)  Florida’s newest Dirt Track website is looking for sponsors and for drivers.

“I am in the process now of trying to set up driver profiles for the website, www.floridadirttracknews, where potential sponsors can find potential drivers to sponsor.  If possible, and that all depends on how badly the drivers want help, I am asking that they send me a small bio of their racing history with a few photos to put up on the website,” said Publisher Jane Smith.

“Then when sponsors look at the website, they can see and read about the great dirt drivers here in Florida and hopefully help one of them.  Even if it is only gas for the weekend or a tire or two, anything does and will help the driver and the sponsor will get his name out there at their hometracks so their sponsor.  It is a win-win situation for both.”

“Since acquiring www.dirttracknews.com, Florida Dirt Track News has been getting more than 650 hits per day.  Florida Dirt Track News covers all of Florida’s dirt tracks with stories, race results, and a photo gallery of the weekend’s racing action that the track photographers are kind enough to send in to me.”

“With today’s economy and the state that some tracks are in, it is hard to race for sure.  But there are still racers and still potential sponsors in the stands that may have a few bucks to help out a driver and hopefully by doing this, it will help both.”

“For $25.00, the bios and photos will be put up for a year on the website for everyone to see.  And if the driver comes up with a win, he/she will be highlighted for the week on the site.”

“Florida Dirt Track News is still looking for sponsors also for the site.  The site has grown each and every day since last year when it was started.  It is a great place to advertise your parts, services, etc. for the dirt track driver.  Advertising rates are very reasonable and you can contact racingjls@aol.com for rates.”

Florida Dirt Track News also offers National Dirt news from the World of Outlaws to the All Star Circuit of Champions.  And in the near future, it will also offer news from other Southern states dirt tracks from Georgia, Mississippi, Alabama, Louisiana, Arkansas, South and North Carolina.

Now we cover Southern Raceway, Northwest Florida Speedway, Hendry County Motorsports Park, North Florida Speedway, Ocala Speedway, Volusia Speedway Park, East Bay Raceway Park, and Putnam County Speedway which is closed at the present time but hopefully reopening in 2011.

For more information on getting your bio up or advertising, please e-mail racingjls@aol.com.  And be sure and check out www.floridadirttracknews.com.  It is the fastest growing dirt track site in the Florida.

Punta Gorda hosts Limited Late Models this Weekend

LIMITED LATE MODELS GET READY TO RACE THIS WEEK
AUG 21ST and don’t forget to call for your slabs!!

Separating the Limited Late Model class from the Super Late Model, ASA Late Models and so on, has been one of the goals of the new Punta Gorda Speedway owners.

After the first race, it  has got a lot of  Limited late Model owners looking for parts and pieces to return to action.  Local southern Florida racer Steve Gill, out of Bradenton, represented the family well, with the first win of the season.

He was followed by Ross Chastain in his National Watermelon Promotion Board sponsored race car in second.   Fast qualifier Dave Weaver settled for third.

Rounding out the top 5 would be Race 101 driver Michael Cenzi from Naples fourth and new rookie late model driver Dylan Bigley, also of Naples.

When the Limited Late Models take to the 3/8 mile Punta Gorda Speedway on Saturday Aug 21, expect the competition to be even stiffer.

Friday night practice gets under way for drivers competing on Saturday from 4:00pm till dark, and fans are welcome to come out to the speedway.

For this kind of racing action you cant beat the price.

Volusia Takes A Break, Preps for Big Events

by VSP Media

BARBERVILLE, FL-  As the summer heats up and the Florida rainy season kicks into overdrive, Volusia Speedway Park is taking a much needed break over the next couple of weeks.  That time off will allow our racers to make repairs and adjustments to their machines in preparation for the last few weeks of the racing season, and will give our hard working staff some time to rest.  That means that Volusia Speedway Park will be quiet and dark on August 21st as originally scheduled, and again on August 28th for an extra week of summer break.  The racers will return to the track on Friday, September 3rd, for an open practice session from 6 through 9 PM, and racing will return the following night, Saturday, September 4th.

Labor Day Weekend traditionally signals the end of summer, but at Volusia Speedway Park it brings the annual Labor Day Late Model Shootout.  The Daytona Dodge Chrysler Jeep Ram Late Models will be going after a $2500 check made payable to the winner, and that will assure that a top quality field of top dirt late model racers will be on hand to go after the money.  In addition to the Late Model Shootout, fans will see more action from the Budweiser Modifieds, the Taylor Racing Products Sportsman Division, and the Amsoil Synthetic Lubricants Thunder Stocks.

Thanks to weather and other factors, Volusia Speedway Park has made some adaptations to the remainder of the 2010 racing schedule.  That means fans and racers should refer to the schedule posted at www.VolusiaSpeedwayPark.net, as it reflects the latest updates.  For example, VSP will be closed on three Saturday nights where racing was originally scheduled.  Those dates are August 28th, September 25th, and October 9th.  VSP will also be closed as planned on October 23rd for the Autumn break.

One event that remains unchanged is the “9-11 Remembered Night” scheduled for September 11th.  While it will be a night of ceremony and remembrance, fans will see a $500 to win Amsoil Thunder Stock Feature, as well as action from the Daytona Dodge Chrysler Jeep Ram Late Models, the Taylor Racing Products Sportsman Division, and the 4 Cylinder Challengers.  All active military will be admitted free of charge, as well as all fire and rescue first responders and law enforcement.  Proper ID will be required for free admission.

Fans and racers will also discover that some events that were lost to bad weather are now rescheduled.  The 3rd Annual Wiener Nationals are rescheduled for September 18th, where up to 30 Dachshunds will race on the Volusia Speedway frontstretch. In addition to “hot” dog racing, the $1000 to win Taylor Racing Products Sportsman Spectacular that rained out on the same night is also rescheduled for September 18th as well.  The Top Gun Sprint Car Series will also be racing that night, plus the Budweiser Modifieds and the Daytona Sportswear Street Stocks.

As the 2010 racing season winds down there are many great events still to come at Volusia Speedway Park, including the United Dirt Late Model Challenge Series Fall Nationals scheduled for October 16th, and the UDLMCS returns for their Championship Finals on November 6th.  Again, fans and racers should check the schedule at www.VolusiaSpeedwayPark.net for any changes, especially if weather effects anymore events after the summer break ends.

DUNKIN GETS 7TH SPORTSMAN WIN OF THE YEAR AT AUBURNDALE SPEEDWAY

by Dave Westerman

Another big crowd of fans was treated to some great racing action on a very warm and muggy Saturday evening at Auburndale Speedway as the track played host to nine classes of racers.

The Auburndale Trucks were back in action after a few weeks off and Keith Lilley once again took over the wheel of Wally Warwick’s HobbyCrap.com Chevrolet and picked up his third feature win of the season. Jim Cowhey, Jr. had his truck running better than it has all season as he dominated the heat race then took off like a rocket in the feature. (more…)
