OPEN WHEEL MODIFIEDS AND CHAMP KARTS HIGHLIGHT AUBURNDALE SPEEDWAY SHOW THIS SATURDAY

1,000 FANS IN THE STANDS AND A LAPTOP COMPUTER COULD BE YOURS!

by Dave Westerman

After a week off to give nearly 100 kart racers the opportunity to put on a three day show, stock car racing returns to Auburndale Speedway Saturday night and there will be some kart racing too as the Southeast Champ Kart Series makes their fourth appearance of the year as part of a nine division racing program.

The Open Wheel Modifieds are back this week along with the Modified Mini Stocks, Street Stocks, Legend Cars, Mini Stocks, V-8 Bombers, Scramblers and Bandoleros.

James Wright III has opened up a big 98 point advantage following his win in the Open Wheel Modifieds two weeks ago. Bobby Blake holds second in points but is just one marker ahead of third place Wayne Morris. Wright, the 2009 Auburndale Street Stock champion, is looking to add an OWM title to his Auburndale resume.

The Modified Mini Stock point championship for 2010 is a three man race with Scotty Sharpe currently up by 12 points on Jason Rendell. Rendell has a ten point edge on third place Mike Sweet. Meanwhile, the Mini Stock battle is a bit closer as Chris Spring leads Fred Harrison, Jr. by just 22 headed into this weeks action.

In the Street Stocks, rookie Matt McCrary still hasn’t won a feature but his consistency has him 40 points on top of second place Jeff Waterman. Dave Colpritt remains third, 26 markers in back of Waterman.

It’s down to a battle of two youngsters for the Legend Car point crown this year. Gerald White, Jr. is now 34 points ahead of Jake Perkins with both coming off disappointing results two weeks ago. Perkins won the Florida Legends Tour event at Citrus County Speedway last week.

Josh Borem continues to sit atop the V-8 Bomber standings with a 54 point edge on Buddy Phillips, Jr. Preston Davis is third in points, but by only eight over James Wright, Jr. who picked up the win two weeks ago.

The Scrambler class continues to see Brian Tyre out front but Kimberly Gullett is only ten points behind him. Richard Brown remains third in Scrambler points, 50 markers in front of fourth place Chad Cutting.

With his win two weeks ago, Andy Metz has cut Teddy Lively’s Bandolero Outlaw point lead to 38 as the pair will ultimately vie for the season title right down to the final race.

Auburndale Speedway is looking for a crowd of 1,000 or more fans and is putting out the challenge to our “regulars” to bring some friends to the races. Starting this Saturday, the first week the grandstand fan count is

1,000 or more the track will give away a new Auburndale Speedway laptop computer recently purchased from Palm Tree Computers. Adult/senior rain checks will be used, so all fans will be eligible for the drawing on that night, no extra purchase is necessary.

Pit gates open Saturday afternoon at 2PM, grandstands open at 5PM and racing begins at 7PM. Adult admission is just $12, seniors are $10, kids 5-12 are $5 and all children under four years of age are admitted free. Family packs (2 adults – 2 kids aged 5-12) are $25. All kids age 10 and under will also get an extra ticket good for “Lindsey’s Little Racers” prize drawing. Prize packs this week are donated by Precision Air and Big Ron’s Racing while free ice creams are being donated by drivers James Wright III and Fred Harrison, Jr.

4th Annual Ponce De Leon Classis this Weekend at Hendry County Motorsports Park

Hendry County Motorsports Park Media

August 23, 2010

For years, people have flocked to sunny south Florida for many reasons.  They come for adventure, excitement, and a chance to find their youth.   Ahh yes! Just to be young again, if we could have that chance would you do it?   I think most of us would.   Who would have thought that we could associate Dirt Track Late Model Racing all the way back to the year 1513?
The famous explore Ponce De Leon came to Florida in 1513 in search of the same things;  adventure, excitement and youth. I know you’re not here for a history lesson, but this weekend drivers from all over the south will follow in the footsteps of the famous explore and venture into the heart of the Everglades in search of their “fountain of youth”,  for the 4th annual Ponce De Leon Late Model Classic at the Hendry County Motor Sports Park.  Three drivers have already put their names in the history books. Owens Out to Make Lasting Impression at Chicagoland

Ready for Return After Watching Races from Couch

CONCORD, N.C. (August 24, 2010) – The Ansell Protective Gloves 150 at Chicagoland Speedway is the final race planned for Alli Owens on the 2010 ARCA Series schedule. Owens, along with the No. 15 ElectrifyingCareers.com team, is looking to make a lasting impression, one that she hopes can extend her season.

Driving for Venturini Motorsports, Owens has competed in eight previous ARCA events this season. Her best finish came at Salem Speedway, where she finished ninth. She has recorded two top-15 finishes and four top-20s.

Owens has two ARCA Series races under her belt at Chicagoland Speedway. Owens drove the ElectrifyingCareers.com machine to a 15th-place finish in 2008 and a 19th-place finish in 2009.

Owens Comments on Chicagoland Speedway:

“Being out of the seat for a while has been really challenging. I hate watching races from the couch. I’m really looking forward to this week, especially being at Chicago.  It’s a mile-and-a-half, which Venturini Motorsports has been really strong at. We’re going to have a lot of support from the crowd there.  International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Locals 134 and 176 with the Local JATC and NECA contractors are big backers of our program and they come out every year. It’s one of those tracks that we really look forward to, not just because we’re fast, but because of the great support, too.

“Mile-and-a-half tracks have been a strong point for us, mainly because it’s all about the car and the aero package. Here at Venturini Motorsports, they have the ElectrifyingCareers.com Chevrolet hooked up. I’m really excited about it. I’ve been working on my consistency this season. I’ve run well at Chicago before.  I’ve qualified well there. Hopefully my past experience at the track, and what I’ve learned this year, will pay off.

“My last race was at Pocono. We had a great showing during practice. Unfortunately we didn’t have the car for the race to seal the deal. Hopefully we’ll be strong throughout the week and I’ll be running up front with my teammates and battling for the win.

“This is the last race we have sponsorship for this season. I’d love to find an organization that can help us compete in some more races this year. We’ve got five more races, ones that are really strong tracks for this team. Hopefully we’ll make a statement at Chicagoland that will catch someone’s eye.”

NO BRAKE JAKE WINS THIRD LEGEND CAR RACE OF THE YEAR AT CITRUS COUNTY SPEEDWAY

The Florida Legend Car Tour made its fourth visit of the year to Citrus County Speedway in Inverness, FL and it was 13-year-old “No Brake” Jake Perkins victorious for the third time at the tricky speedplant.

Perkins started off what would be a perfect evening by setting quick time at

15.518 seconds to earn the pole for the 25 lap feature event. Mason Ketterman was second quick at 15.740, just a tick of the watch faster than Devin McLeod’s 15.741 lap. Kory Abbott, who made it to the track just a few minutes before time trials after finishing his afternoon show at Disney’s Hollywood Studios where he is a stunt driver, hit the track with no practice laps and was still fourth quick at 15.760 while Dave Gleason timed in fifth at 15.779. Leroy Moore broke a rear suspension part and did not qualify, but with several teams assisting in repairs, got his machine ready for the 25 lap feature. (more…)

Team Car Warz Finishes August with a Hit at Lanier National Speedway in Georgia

Team Car Warz Media

Lanier National Speedway, GA (August 21, 2010)  After two weeks up north in Pennsylvania, Team Car Warz headed back towards Florida and home but not without stopping at Lanier National Speedway in Georgia for a show.

Fans were greeted with a perfect night and a fantastic show.  A special thanks goes out to TEAMMXEAST.COM and riders Travis Willis and Clint Esposito, who put on an awesome show for the fans and they loved it.     They were definitely a hit with everyone.

Team Car Warz will now take a few days off before heading towards New York and the track they consider “home”, Holland Speedway.  Team Car Warz will conclude the 2010 season at Ocala Speedway also in September.
