Nov. 12th, 2011 – Six divisions were on hand tonight here at East Bay Raceway Park. At Intermission, it was an Autograph session with the Old Time Mods. Kids of all ages came to see the cars from the past along with the men who drive them.
The first feature of the evening went to the Street Stocks. Jeff Rodgers and Locke Brown won the heat races ealier in the night. Mike Eaton and Garry Sheffield made up the front row for the feature. At the drop of the green flag, Mike Eaton took the early lead with Rodgers closing in. First caution came out and brough Rodgers right on Eaton’s back bumper. Green flag waved and Eaton remained out front for the next five laps and the second and final caution came out on lap ten. Rodgers was able to pass Eaton when the race resumed and was able to pick up his eleventh feature win of the season. Eaton came home second with Sheffield third, Brown fourth and Thomas Burnside rounding out the top five.
Next up was the Gagel’s Open Wheel Modifieds presented by Budweiser with a twenty lap feature, paying $700 to the winner. Bruce Harvey and Devin Dixon won the heat races earlier on. On the front row was the familiar Double Zero with the current points leader Austin Sanders on the front row. When the green flag dropped, Reutimann took the leader with Sanders right on his back bumper. Red flag came out when Aileen Collins rolled over in turn four. Driver was okay, but the car was not able to continue. Several cautions came out after the race resumed with Dixon charging up the third. With five to go, another caution came out right in front of the leaders, almost collection Reutimann and Sanders. When the checkered flag waved, Reutimann won his fourth feature of the season. Sanders, Devin Dixon, Bobby Dixon and Thomas Pratt rounded out the top five.
Next was the Old Time Modifieds. Bob Fink and Jamie Frankland won their heats earlier on in the night. When it was feature time, Richard Svenson and Kenny Brock started on the front row. Lars Amundsen took the lead by lap two with hard charging Tommy Zwally in hot pursuit. By lap seven, Zwally passed Amundsen picking up the feature win. Amundsen was second with Don Land, Jamie Frankland and Dan Darnell rounding out the top five.
Late Models were next with Dennis Williams and Roger Crouse winning their heats earlier on. Crouse and Williams made up the front row for the feature as well and when the green flag dropped, Crouse took off with Williams behind him. Phillip Cobb passed Williams with just a few laps into the race. Crouse was cruising catching the lapped traffic by lap six. On lap ten, a car spinning in turn two nearly took out Crouse and Cobb. Several more cautions came out, and Josh Peacock was now in the hunt for a win. On a restart, Peacock was called for jumping on the start penalizing him two spots. He crossed the line second, but was credited with fourth place. Dennis Williams, points leader Bryan Bernhardt, Peacock and Cobb rounded out the top five. Crouse said in Victory Lane that the motor had let go on the back stretch, but was able to capture the win.
The Motorstats.com 4 Cylinder Bombers were the last feature of the night. Johnnie Alexander, Roberto Morfin, Sr., and Steve Hadding were heat winners early in the night. Alexander and Hadding made up the front row come feature time. Alexander took the early lead and never looked back. Several drivers made attempts to take the lead but were not able to pass him. Hard charging Raymond Vann came from the eighth spot and Robert Kissam came from the sixteenth spot to make their way to the front. When the checkered flag dropped, Alexander, Puyear and Vann crossed in the order. But after tech, Puyear was dq’d for unsportsmanlike conduct. Raymond Vann finished second, Kissam, Mike Meadows and Morfin, Sr. were your top five.
ASA sanctioned racing returns to East Bay Raceway Park on Saturday, November 19, 2011 as it is the third of five races presented by Budweiser for the Q Auto & Injury Attorneys Limited Late Models paying $600 for their 20 lap feature event.
