Sept. 17, 2011 – First time winners made it to Victory Lane tonight along with some familiar ones as well.
The night started off with the Street Stock division. Andy Lee picked up the heat win early on. Then for the 15-lap feature event, its was David Barwick, II who was tenth in points and Andy Lee eleventh in points. From the drop of the green flag, Andy Lee led the entire race with few challengers. It was Andy’s very first feature win. Andy was very emotional thanking his family and friends for their continued support. Mike Wilson finished second, followed by Mike Eaton, Jeff Rodgers and Curtis Book rounding out the top five.
The Q Auto & Injury Attorneys Limited Late Models were up next with Jason Pope and Scotty Williams, who are first and second in the points, picking up their heat wins. Ricky Land and Shane Koperda started on the front row with Pope and Williams right behind them. Jason Pope picked up the lead on lap three when a third caution came out for the 15 of Koperda and the 61 of Thomas Scott getting tangled up. Then on lap six, Scott lost control of the car and Daniel Woody had no where to go and Scott ended up on the roof of Woody bringing the red flag out. Both drivers were ok but were not able to continue. When the checkered flag waved, it was the points leader picking up his first feature win of the season with Roger Crouse, John Gross, Ricky Land and Shane Koperda your top five.
Late Models were next in line with Crouse doing double duty, picked up his heat win along with Mavrick Varnadore taking his. On the front row it was Jack Larson and Dennis Williams making up the front row. For the first sixteen laps, Travis Varnadore did everything he could to try and get by him and then a caution came out bringing the field together. On the restart, Travis found his way around Williams taking over the top spot and picking up his second feature win of the season drawing the points closer between Bernhardt and Mavrick Varnadore. Phillip Cobb crossed the line in second, while Williams finished third, Bernhardt fourth and Jack Larson fifth.
Kyle Kruse and Roberto Morfin, Jr. picked up the heat wins earlier on in the night. When it was feature time, former Outlaw 4 Champion Steven Hohlbaugh and Megan Rae were on the front row. Several cautions came out early, but on lap six, Jesse Brown took the lead and seemed to be well on his way for a fourth feature win. But on lap thirteen, Brown slowed down along with second place runner Hohlbaugh, handing the lead over to Jamie Burrows. Burrows crossed the line picking up the win and stated in Victory Lane, “It was fun and I had a good time. Fun is what its all about”. Kruse picked up second, Howard, J.R. Baker and Megan Rae were your top five.
Points leader Troy Dittebrand, last weeks feature winner, Raymond Vann and Dalton Goldhammer all won their heat races. Roberto Morfin, Sr. and Don R. Quinn made up the front row. Morfin, Sr. seemed to have the race under control, but Raymond Vann was charging up from fifth place and hounded Morfin, Sr. all race. Morfin, Sr. took the checkered flag by a half of a car at the line. But, after going thru tech, Morfin, Sr. was DQ’d for offset rims, giving Vann the win in tech. Don R. Quinn had another solid finish for the second consecutive week. Dittebrand finished third, Mike Meadows and Gene Gross were the top five.
Dirt Daubers were back in action this week. Janien Dixon was leading the race two weeks ago when she hit the backstretch wall, and had to practically rebuild the front end on her car her, husband Bill told us in Victory Lane. Janien picked up her fouth feature win leading all drivers in the division with feature wins. Bill Dixon, Brett Phillips, Russ Bolle and Henry Wylee were the top five.
ASA sanctioned racing returns to East Bay Raceway Park on Saturday, September 24, 2011. The program will include Limited Late Models, Open Wheel Modifieds, Street Stocks, Motorstats.com 4 Cylinder Bombers and the Old Time Mods.
