September 3, 2011 – After several weeks of rain, Mother Nature held off and the racers were ready to race here at East Bay Raceway Park. Five divisions plus Fan Participation put on some exciting races tonight.

First feature to run was the Street Stocks. Calvin Moore and Mike Wilson started on the front row. Calvin Moore slipped back and Mike Wilson took over the lead position. Battling side by side for several laps were Ronnie Whitley and Eric Moon. Moon started back in the sixth spot and quickly made his way to the front picking up his first feature win of the season. Jeff Rodgers after starting thirteenth, picked up the runner-up spot. Jarod Gay finished third, Mike Wilson fourth and Jason Russell picked up the fifth position. Curits Book and Whitley picked up the heat wins earlier on.

East Bay Sprints were the next feature on the track. Jason Webster and Tony Agin were on the front row. On the green flag, Tony Agin seemed to be in command. A caution came out on lap nine, which brought the field closer. Tyler Godwin was second. On the green flag, Godwin was penalized for jumping the start and several cars crashed on the backstretch, including Agin. But getting the worst was Billy Boyd, Jr. Billy walked away, but his car was destroyed. After the restart, Godwin was moved back to second and was able to gain the lead back. His motor was not running at full power, but was able to pick up the feature win. Jimmy Ballew picked up second place with Kerry Gilbert, Robbie Smith and DJ Peeples rounding out the top five. Agin and Webster picked up the heat wins.

Next up were the Late Models. The last time the Late Models were in action was on June 25th. Starting on the front row were heat winners Cecil Martin and Bryan Bernhardt. When the green flag waved, Bryan Bernhardt went to the front with David Schmauss hot on his tail. Schmauss and Bernhardt drove side by side for nearly the entire race. Schmauss tried repeatedly to get by Bernhardt but was not able to. But on a restart with several laps to go, Schmauss was called for jumping the start and seemed to walk away from Bernhardt. But Bernhardt would be the leader. Caution came out on lap 24 making it a green, white, checkered finish. Schmauss was moved back to third putting Mavrick Varnadore into second. The green flag waved along with the white flag and Bernhardt held the lead going into the final lap. Schmauss was able to get around Varnadore in turn three and picked up second with Bernhardt picking up the win. Bernhardt pulled into victory lane, but it was Schmauss already there. Bernhardt said he didn’t have a problem and got beat by Schmauss. Bernhardt was still the winner after the final decision was made. Schmauss finished second, Mavrick Varnadore, Kyle Musselman and Travis Varnadore were your top five.

It was the Motorstats.com 4 Cylinder Bombers turn for their feature event. It was a pair of 4’s on the front row, with 2 time feature winner Kayla Jones on the pole with the 4L of Gene Gross right beside her. Kayla jumped out and had the guys chasing her down. Gene Gross, Troy Dittebrand, and Patrick Fiore battled for a long time to get by her, but was not able to accomplish the task. When the checkered flag dropped it was Jones picking up her third feature win of the season. Fiore finished second, Bubba Puyear, Roberto Morfin, Sr., after starting twenty third, finished fourth. Dittebrand, the current points leader finished fifth. Jason Burnside, Dittebrand and Fiore all won heats early on.

Dirt Daubers were the final event of the night. Top 3 in points were all side by side. Brett Phillips, Bill Dixon and Janien Dixon were ready for action. Fans counted them down from five and they were off in the opposite direction giving Mac Terrell the early advantage. But after starting dead last, Janien Dixon was in first after lap one was completed. Mac Terrell had some problems after hitting the front stretch gate and tearing off some metal, which was run over by Bill Dixon, giving him a flat tire. Janien seemed to be running away with the race when she had some problems getting into the back stretch wall and damaged her hopes for her fourth feature win. Brett Phillips then took over the lead and picked up his third feature win of the season. DB Hogwaller picked up second with his passenger which was her very first time at East Bay Raceway Park. Bill Bolle, Janien Dixon and Bill Dixon were your top five finishers.

Fan Participation was run at Intermission with Steve Ashmore picking up yet another win. The Jim Bargo Memorial will be run on October 1st in honor of Big Jim Bargo a long time supporter of the Fan Participation events throughout the years.
