For years, people have flocked to sunny south Florida for many reasons. They come for adventure, excitement, and a chance to find their youth. Ahh yes! Just to be young again, if we could have that chance would you do it? I think most of us would. Who would have thought that we could associate Dirt Track Late Model Racing all the way back to the year 1513?
The famous explore Ponce De Leon came to Florida in 1513 in search of the same things; adventure, excitement and youth. I know you’re not here for a history lesson, but this weekend drivers from all over the south will follow in the footsteps of the famous explore and venture into the heart of the Everglades in search of their “fountain of youth”, for the 4th annual Ponce De Leon Late Model Classic at the Hendry County Motor Sports Park. Three drivers have already put their names in the history books.
In 2007 “Showtime” Shawn Smith found his fountain of youth winning the 1st annual Ponce de Leon classic.
In 2008 it was the “Professor” Ivedent Lloyd coming home the winner. Last year was the year of “The Killer” Keith Nosbisch as he put #101 Miller Lite Mopar into the history books.
As we count down the days, hours and minutes, who will be the next driver to find there fountain of youth.
Could it be a track local like Tim Powers who is fresh off his first ever Open Wheel Modified win in the 2010 Open Wheel Modified state Championship?
Could it be the young current Rookie point’s leader Christian Augespurger from the United Dirt late Model Challenge Series.
Or will it be “The General” Bubba the Love Sponge with his #102.5 Miller Lite Mopar missile.
Find out this Saturday night at The Hendry County Motor Sports Park for the 4th Annual Ponce De Leon Classic.
Pit gate opens at 2PM Grandstands open at 4PM and racing starts at 7PM.
