Tampa, FL – It was the final night of the 2013 Season as the 30 Late Models signed in to run Topless for the $1,500 to win Feature Event. Also racing were the Q Auto & Injury Attorneys Street Stocks, V8 Warriors, Florida Old Time Modifieds, Motorstats.com 4 Cylinder Bombers and the Outlaw Fours who also would run topless for their feature event.
The first to run after intermission as kids lined up to see Mr. & Mrs Santa Claus would be the B-Main taking the top four into the A-Main as 4 heats were run earlier taking the top five advancing to the A-Main. Winning the B-Main would be Matt Miller and also making the A-Main would be David Pollen, Jr., Travis Varnadore and Kyle Bronson. Bronson had to go to a back-up car and start at the tail end of the B-Main and advancing by finishing fourth.
Next would be the Outlaw Fours feature. Winning their heats were Brittany Yates and Zach Amundsen. For the front row it would be point’s leader Jesse James Foster and Billy Howard. Foster would take the green and would lead the first four laps until Don T. Quinn spun in turn two. Lap five it would be Howard would slow on the front stretch bringing out the second caution of the night. On the next restart Foster would lead until the next lap when Brittany Yates took over the lead but the caution would come out giving Foster back the lead. On the restart Foster and Yates battled side by side and on lap seven it was Yates taking over the lead and went on to win her first feature of the year. Finishing second was Foster as he became the 2013 Points Champion for the Outlaw Fours finishing ahead of second place in points Nick Hebrank. Finishing third would be Brandon Yates as Zach Amundsen and Jake Hampton rounded out the top five.
Q Auto & Injury Attorneys Street Stocks would be next with Dennis Wilson, Jr. and Buck Woodhouse was first and second in the points. Winning their heats were Roy Woodhouse and Jeff Rodgers. On the initial green flag several cars would pile up on the front stretch for a complete restart. When the green waved once again it was Dennis Wilson, Jr. leading the way with Tim Gay and Jeff Rodgers trailing behind him. On lap four Tim Gay would bring his win streak of four races to a halt as he slowed and headed to the infield. Only one more caution would come out as Wilson, Jr. went on to win the feature and pick up the Q Auto & Injury Attorneys Street Stock Points Championship for 2013. Rounding out the top five were William Burnside, Buck Woodhouse, Thomas Burnside and Roy Woodhouse.
Next up were the Florida Old Time Modifieds. Winning the heat was Dan Darnell and for the feature it would be Charlie Mixson and Richard Svenson on the front row. Mixson would lead the first lap until Roger Herbach took over on lap two. On lap six it was Herbach and David Kelly side by side at the line. Kelly would then have the lead on lap nine but only by a half car length over Herbach. Herbach took the lead back and went on to win the feature. Rounding out the top five would be Jamie Franklin, Dan Darnell, Tom McDonald and Steve Campbell after he started dead last.
It was then time for the Topless 50 with for the Late Models. Winning their heats were Keith Nosbisch, Dave Schmauss, Jack Nosbisch, Jr. and Doug Horton. For the front row for the feature it would be Mark Haase and Doug Watson. When the green waved Watson would lead the first lap as caution came out for three incident. On the restart Watson would lead the way with Josh Peacock and Mark Haase trailing him. By lap seven after starting from the seventh position, Keith Nosbisch would take over the lead. Another caution would come out on lap eleven and now finding himself in the second position would be Jack Nosbisch, Jr. and Watson hanging on to third. Green waved once again as eighteen laps would be run with Nosbisch and Nosbisch, Jr. making their way thru the lapped traffic with Watson still hanging on to third. But on lap thirty it would be Watson spinning on his own in turn two and having to go to the rear of the field. Top five on lap thirty would be Nosbisch, Nosbisch, Jr., Doug Horton, Kyle Bronson after starting dead last had moved up to fourth with Josh Peacock now fifth. On lap forty Bronson had now made his way up to second trying to chase down Nosbisch but was not able to track down “The Catfish” as Keith Nosbisch went on to win back to back Topless events as he also won last year’s event. Rounding out the top five were Kyle Bronson, Doug Horton, Jack Nosbisch, Jr. and Josh Peacock. Finishing in the sixth position and would be the new 2013 Late Model Champion was Dave Schmauss.
V8 Warriors were next with another points battle between last year’s Champion Jeff Weaver and second place in point Marco Reyes. Winning their heats were Jessica Robbins and Marco Reyes. For the front row of the feature it would be Brett Phillips and Weaver. Weaver would lead lap one as caution came out on the very next lap for debris. Weaver once again led the field to the green as he would continue to lead the way with a hard charging Raymond Vann would move up to second to try and take the lead. Vann was unable to pass Weaver as Jeff went on to win the feature and making it Back-To-Back Championships in the V8 Warriors. Rounding out the top five were Jessica Robbins, Don Foligno, Brett Phillips and Tim Stoffel.
The final feature of the night and the 2013 Season was the Motorstats.com 4 Cylinder Bombers. Winning their heats were Wayne Kissam, Darrell Taylor and Brett Calonge. Gary Lucas and George Handy made up the front row for the feature and when the green waved Handy quickly jumped out in to the lead. Handy would lead the way as Wayne Kissam made his way up to second after starting from the sixth position. Handy and Kissam would continue to battle throughout the race as the only caution came with just one lap to go. Handy led the way on the final restart and went on to win the feature with Wayne Kissam, Darrell Taylor, Patrick Fiore, Sr. and Jimmy Baker rounding out the top five. John Moore won the Championship for the Motorstats.com 4 Cylinder Bombers and Jimmy Baker would also go on to win the HO-HO run with a four race points series towards the end of the year for the 4 Cylinder Bombers.
