CARTERSVILLE, GA – Several drivers made advances in the Top 10 of the NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage Weekly Racing Series point standings after Week 20 of the 27-week 2013 season. Teammates Noah Daspit of Kiln, MS and Shannon Lee of Lumberton, MS did not net any points over the weekend on their best 14 week point totals, but they remain one-two in the standings.
Daspit still leads the NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage Weekly Racing Series standings with a best 14 week total of 693 points after 11 wins, 21 top five finishes, and 22 top ten finishes in 25 races. Daspit was the apparent winner on Saturday night at Southern Raceway in Milton, FL, but the rear spoiler on his Billy Riels Racing Trak-Star failed the post-race technical inspection.
Even if Daspit wasn’t disqualified, he still would have failed to net any points, as there were only five cars at Southern Raceway, and it would have been a 40-point win. Daspit needed to finish third or better in a field of eight or more cars to gain any points on his best 14 week total.
Lee did not compete in Week 20 competition, but remains second in the NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage Weekly Racing Series standings with a best 14 week total of 677 points after three wins, 20 top five finishes and 21 top ten finishes in 25 races driving the Billy Riels Racing GRT. Lee holds a one-point lead over two drivers tied for the third spot in the point standings.
Montana Dudley of Phenix City, AL drove the Zaxby’s Rocket to his eighth NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage Weekly Racing Series win of the season in his 14th week of competition on Saturday night at East Alabama Motor Speedway in Phenix City, AL to vault up to a tie for the third spot with Mike Palasini Jr. of Leland, MS, who finished second on Saturday night at Greenville Speedway in Greenville, MS to net eight points.
Dudley and Palasini both have a best 14 week total of 676 points. Montana has eight wins, 14 top five finishes and 15 top ten finishes in 15 races. Palasini has seven NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage Weekly Racing Series wins and 12 top five finishes in 16 races driving the MP Trucking Trak-Star.
Robby Moore of Brosley, MO is fifth in the NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage Weekly Racing Series standings with a best 14 week total of 665 points after one win, 14 top five finishes and 18 top ten finishes in 18 races driving the Custom Race Cars Trak-Star. Moore did not compete in Week 20 competition.
Jeff Glisson of Boaz, KY was able to net 17 points on Saturday night with a ninth-place finish at Clayhill Motorsports in Atwood, TN driving the SGR Equipment Rocket. Glisson is sixth in the NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage Weekly Racing Series standings with a best 14 week total of 658 points after three wins, ten top five finishes and 12 top ten finishes in 16 races.
Sid Scarbrough is seventh in the NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage Weekly Racing Series standings with a best 14 week total of 657 points after two wins, 11 top five finishes and 18 top ten finishes in 26 races driving the Villa South Trak-Star. Scarbrough failed to net any points in Week 20 competition after finishing outside the top ten on Saturdaynight at Jackson Motor Speedway in Jackson, MS.
Bobby Jordan of McCarley, MS is eighth in the standings with a best 14 week total of 639 points after nine top five finishes and 11 top ten finishes in 20 NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage Weekly Racing Series races driving the Henderson Waste and Recycling Trak-Star. Jordan was able to net five points with a fifth-place finish on Saturday night at Greenville Speedway.
Daniel Bridgmon of Meridian, MS drove the Robinson Electric Supply Special to a third-place finish on Saturday night at Jackson Motor Speedway to climb into the Top 10 of the NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage Weekly Racing Series standings in the ninth spot. Bridgmon reached the 14-week mark of his season with 629 points after one win, six top five finishes and 13 top ten finishes in 15 races.
After leading the NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage Weekly Racing Series point standings early in the season, Michael Arnold of Hattiesburg, MS has made the most of his new ride by taking his sixth NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage Weekly Racing Series of the season on Saturday night to claim the $1,000 top prize in the Villa South Assisted Living Summer Shootout Race on Saturday night at Jackson Motor Speedway driving The Strength Center Trak-Star.
Arnold has made it back into the Top 10 of the NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage Weekly Racing Series standings with his win in his 14th week of his season. Arnold is tenth in the standings with 626 points after six wins, 12 top five finishes and 14 top ten finishes in 20 races.
In other NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage Weekly Racing Series Week 20 action, Ronnie Cooper of McKenzie, TN drove the Ronnie Cooper Trucking Rocket to his first win of the season on Saturday night at Clayhill Motorsports. The defending and four-time NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage Weekly Racing Series Chassis Manufacturers Challenge Champion GRT Race Cars of Greenbrier, AR is third with 19 wins. Warrior Race Cars built by Goddard Performance of Knoxville, TN is fourth with six wins.
