February 23, 2013 – Tampa, FL – Over 45 Mini Sprints were on hand for the final night of the 37th Annual Winternationals at East Bay Raceway Park. Over 17 states were represented for the 3 day event.
The first of four heat races were run and heat race number one went to last year’s winner from Delran, NJ in his Hyper Chassis/Kawasaki 636cc engine was Tyler Devault. Heat race number two went to Honeybook, PA’s Hyper Chassis/750 cc engine was Shane Lewis. Heat three went to Deland, Florida’s Dirk Miller in his Hyper Chassis/750 cc engine. The final heat race went to Osceola, Arkansas’s Travis Senter, Jr. in his PMP/FTZ 750cc engine.
After the four heat races were run for the 360’s it was the B-Main. The top six transferred into the 25 Lap Feature event. Winning the B-main was Gavin Thomas from Jacksonville, FL followed by David Pleaugh, Dane Lorance, Dave Hall, Paige Moss and Connor Borah rounding out the field.
After the B-mains were run for the 360’s it was time for the feature event. One the pole was Shane Lewis and on the outside pole was Mike Dicely. When the green dropped it was Lewis leading the field into turn one with Dicely right on his back bumper. Lewis led the first five times around until David Pleaugh spun in turn two bringing out the first caution.
So the field was lined back up and the green flag waved again it was Lewis leading the way. Then on lap twelve the red came out as Dylan Colding of Lithia, FL tumbled in turn three. Dylan was okay but unfortunately his night had ended.
Green waved once again and it was still Lewis dominating the field until lap eighteen when Dave Hall spun in turn two bringing out another caution. Lewis was still leading the way with Mike Dicely, Travis Senter, Jr, Luke Thomas and Tyler Devault rounding out the top five.
When the final green waved, Lewis crossed the line picking up his very first win at East Bay Raceway Park. Lewis’s margin of victory was 1.755 seconds over Mike Dicely. Senter, Jr., Thomas and Devault remained the top five. Rounding out the top ten were Coby Adams, Dirk Miller, Sammy Lamothe, Tim Buckwalter, and Gavin Thomas.
In Victory Lane Lewis told the crowd that his car was a rocket all weekend long. He also said that it was his first year in a Hyper Chassis and was very happy with the car. Lewis also said in Victory Lane that this race was special because it was his first time here and it gave him a great deal of confidence. He also wanted to thank Rich Clouser who was watching at home and said at least bring the steering wheel home. Well he brought more than that home his first time here. He also thanked Scott Spar as well.
