Jim Rouse (10-15-12) Ocala, FL – Bubba Raceway Park has just 5 weeks of racing left and this one will showcase our Scorpion Racing Products UMP DirtCar Open-Wheel Modifieds as well as the Buddy’s Home Furnishings Limited Late Models, Hobby Stocks, 1-800-ASK GARY Thunder Stocks, and Barfield Law Group Mini Stocks.
In the Scorpion Racing Products Modifieds it seems as if Jeff Mathews has lost his reign but he has not quit yet as he took max points over Kyle Bronson last time out. Bronson has a massive lead and Mathews will have to win out to have a chance. Dalton Lanich isn’t in much better position but he can set up a strong 2013 with a few wins at the end of the season in his Chris Williams machine. Rich Pratt and Garret Stewart have contended for wins in 2012 but haven’t quite broken into Coors Light Winner’s Circle yet; their time will come and when it does it’ll get quite exciting for all.
JO Nobles and David Showers have separated themselves from the competition in the Buddy’s Home Furnishings Limited Late Models but Nobles looks to have the title wrapped up soon. Forrest Gough has had an interesting season and looks to complete it with a trip to Coors Light Winner’s Circle while he tries to hold off young Christian and Caleb McGillivray who are also seeking their first wins of 2012. Others such as Kevin Mills and David Showers, Jr. have broken into Victory Lane but 2012 has certainly been all about the #18.
As the season winds down for our Hobby Stocks there are just 3 races, including this week, left and Rodney Wright has a bit of work to do. He sits 9 points down on Trevor Gamble but the good news for Wright is that a heat is worth 3 and a feature 6 so it’s far from over! However, the good new for Gamble is that the math means he controls the fight at this point. This fight has been close all year and they’ve left drivers like Mike Stalnaker and Mark Maresca, coming off of a career drive, in the dust. It’s an all-out fight and the dust won’t settle before a champion is decided.
Real drama is in the 1-800-ASK GARY Thunder Stocks as Shane Nichols continues to steal points from the main contenders Jonathan Appleby and Brian Mullins. Nichols was able to tie Appleby for second-most wins in 2012 (Chad Scranton has 7 to their 6 each) while Mullins seems to finish 2nd every week. Jason Gamble, James Sullivan, III, John Thorpe, and Brandon Elwood all have speed but Thorpe has said he is done for 2012 and Gamble has missed a few races recently. The fight for 3rd is on but the title goes to the man who never quits!
Buddy Pope, Travis Staats, and Reid Christensen are at the top of the fight in the Barfield Law Group Mini Stocks and they all have a story on their way up. Pope set out last year to take it home but had some troubles which set him back. He never gave up and last year’s efforts have him favored for the 2012 title. Staats answered the call and recently became Pope’s main rival with some big wins but the deficit may have be too much to overcome. Christensen has had some troubles but his rookie campaign has exceeded expectations. Either way, it’s an all out fight between 3 deserving racers.
