29 Cars Already Pre-Entered for the ARCA/CRA Super Series Feature Event
Salem, IN (August 29, 2012) – Champion Racing Association will be taking on the famous High Banks of historic Winchester Speedway this weekend with the famous Labor Day Weekend World Stock Car Festival, one of the biggest stock car events held each year in Central Indiana. The weekend will feature exciting racing action from the ARCA/CRA Super Series, Top Speed Modifieds, Top Speed Fabrication CRA Late Model Sportsman, CRA Street Stocks and the Vores Touring Compacts. Camping will be available all weekend and there will also be the annual Sunday night party in the pavilion featuring live music.
The ARCA/CRA Super Series has had 34 events to date at Winchester Speedway. Current ARCA/CRA Super Series points leader Johnny VanDoorn, Scott Hantz, Bull Baker and Brian Ross are all tied for the most series victories at Winchester with three apiece. VanDoorn got the victory in the series event at Winchester on June 23rd with Hantz finishing second. Both VanDoorn and Hantz top the list of entries for this weekend. Other former series winners at Winchester who are entered for this weekend’s event includes two time winners Tommy St. John and Jeff Fultz , both of Fultz’s victories at Winchester have come on Labor Day Weekend. Single event Winchester winners also entered include Rick Turner and Peter Cozzolino.
Other top CRA regulars who are entered include Kenzie Ruston, Terry Fisher Jr., Jay Nieweik, Kenny Tweedy, Nick Gullatta, Jason Dietsch, Nick Lay, Brent Jack, Joe Beaver, Eddie Van Meter, Damon Ecoff, Kyle Jones, Justin Alsip and Mark Lambert. Top Boyne Machine Company rookies who are entered include current rookie point’s leader Becca Kasten plus Travis Braden who is second in rookie points and Nate Caruth who is third in rookie points. There are 29 cars pre-entered to date for this weekend’s event.
This event always attracts late model teams from around the country looking to get laps on the High banks prior to the Annual October Winchester 400. Several of the top drivers from the South have entered including Georgia hot shoes Bubba Pollard, the top late model driver in wins in the country the last two years and T.J. Reaid who will be competing with the Bill Elliott Motorsports Team, winner of the 2010 Winchester 400 with Chase Elliott behind the wheel. Reaid won the series season Northern points open at Anderson Speedway back on April 15th. Oklahoma’s Donnie Wilson is entered, Wilson has been one of the fastest cars in the 400 the last two years before bad luck ended his day. 14 year old Kyle Benjamin is entered, the South Carolina teenager has been on a roll this year getting a JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour win at Winchester in May and won the ARCA/CRA Super Series event at Lucas Oil Raceway on July 27th.
Jason Atkinson comes into Sunday’s event as the current point’s leader with the Top Speed Fabrication CRA Late Model Sportsman Series, with a series leading three wins so far this season. Atkinson has a 10 point lead over second place K.C. Spillers, who has consistently ran in the top five all season. Bob Sibila Jr. is in third place, only one point behind Spillers. Sibila Jr. got a series win at Winchester on July 15th. Tommy Cook is in fourth place, he is 18 points behind Sibila Jr. Cook has two series victories so far this season, both at Winchester Speedway, both have been close wins, one over T.J. Fisher in May, the second was the series last event on August 19th, Cook edged out Spillers in a tough battle to get that win. Brian McFadden is currently fifth in series points, he is only three points behind Cook. The top five are separated by only 32 points coming into this weekend’s event.
CRA veteran racer Brian Hopkins is leading the CRA Street Stock points by only four over second place Jimmy Kirby coming into this weekend. Hopkins won the series season opener at Plymouth Speedway. Rookie Tyler Marsh is in third place in points, he is only 10 points behind Kirby. J.J. Schafer is in fourth place, he is 52 points behind Marsh. Jason Drummond is in fifth place, he is 72 points behind Schafer. This will be the series third event of the season at Winchester Speedway, Jason Thompson got the win on July 15th while Bret Miles Jr. got the win in the series last event on August 18th.
There will be an open practice for all divisions on Saturday, pits open at 10am, and rotating practice will go from 1pm until 5pm. There will be security at the track all weekend so teams can leave their equipment in the track. Pits open on Sunday at 8am, practice will begin at 11:30am with qualifying starting at 3:30pm. Racing action on Sunday will begin at 6pm and will include heat races for the Top Speed Modifieds, Top Speed Fabrication CRA Late Model Sportsman, CRA Street Stocks and the Vores Touring Compacts. There will also be a 20 lap feature for the Vores Touring Compacts. The traditional Sunday night party will begin after the racing is completed.
Pits open on Monday at 9am, there will be a short warm-up session for all cars starting at 11am. Any last chance races will be ran at 12noon. The first of five feature events will start at 1pm with the 20 lap Vores Touring Compacts feature. The 40 lap Top Speed Fabrication CRA Late Model Sportsman feature will be up next and will be followed by the 100 lap ARCA/CRA Super Series feature, the 40 lap Top Speed Modifieds feature, with the 40 lap CRA Street Stocks feature ending the day.
