CARTERSVILLE, GA – The NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Week 22 schedule of events show nine events featuring a double-feature Friday night show, and a pair of big money Saturday night races. There are a plethora of point battles from the top of the standings throughout the Top 20.
Hattiesburg Motorsports Park in Hattiesburg, MS will open NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Week 22 competition on Friday night with a double-feature event. The first feature race will be a Week 17 make-up race, and the second feature race will be the regularly scheduled Week 22 race.
Saturday night NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Week 22 action will be highlighted by the $1,200-to-win Jerry Goodwin Challenge To Beat Cancer. This race honors the memory of Alabama legendary driver the late Jerry Goodwin. Legacy Environmental Process has added $200 to the $1,000-to-win purse.
NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Founder and Director Mike Vaughn has lifted the $1,000-to-win limit for this NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series event and has put up a $100 Fast Time Award in the three Late Model Divisions at Talladega Short Track to honor his childhood hero Jerry Goodwin.
“Jerry Goodwin was my childhood hero and I used to watch him race on both dirt and asphalt tracks,” Vaughn said. “This is such a special event and a very worthwhile cause, I have lifted the $1,000-to-win limit for this race, and thanks to the generosity of Mike Combs and his company, Legacy Environmental Process, the race will now pay $1,200-to-win.”
Whynot Motorsports Park in Meridian, MS will also be paying big money on Saturday night with the $1,000-to-win I-20 Challenge Race for the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Late Models. This race is Round 4 of the I-20 Challenge that is run in conjunction with Jackson Motor Speedway in Jackson, MS.
Penton Raceway in Penton, AL will switch from Friday night NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series racing to Saturday night racing. Penton Raceway will host its 2012 season finale in Week 22 competition this Saturday night.
Also in action with Saturday night NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Week 22 events are Clayhill Motorsports in Atwood, TN, 411 Motor Speedway in Seymour, TN, Greenville Speedway in Greenville, MS, Pike County Speedway in McComb, MS, and West Plains Motor Speedway in West Plains, MO.
There have been 430 different drivers that have earned points in the first 21 weeks of NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series competition, and things are getting crowded point-wise among the Top 20 drivers in the standings as they battle for the Top 10 points fund paying positions and the $10,000 top prize that goes to the National Champion.
The top 19 drivers in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series point standings have reached the 14-week mark of their respective seasons, and will be trying to net on the lowest weekly point total of their best 14 and replacing it with a higher one.
There are still two drivers among the Top 20 still looking for their last 25 Bonus Points to reach their allotment of 100. The top three drivers in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series standings are separated by four points, and the top six drivers are separated by just ten points.
Mickey Trosclair of Luling, LA holds a one-point lead at the top of the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series standings over Chase Washington of Houlka, MS. Trosclair has 794 points, six points away from a perfect score of 800 that represents 14 50-point wins and 100 Bonus Points. Trosclair has a Weekly Point Average (WPA) of 49.57 and will be looking to net on a 48.
Washington has 593 points, a WPA of 49.50, and will be looking to net on a 48. Jeremy Shaw of Millport, AL is third in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series standings with 790 points, a WPA of 49.29, and will be trying to net on a 47. Duke Palasini of Leland, MS is fourth with 789 points, a WPA of 49.21, and will be trying to net on a 47.

Robby Moore of Brosley, MO and Kyle Berry of Portageville, MO are 15th and 20th respectively in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series point standings, but both drivers could move into the Top 10 of the points chase after Week 22 action.
Moore has 733 points, but he will earn 25 Bonus Points by competing in Week 22 competition with his fourth straight week of NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series action. That would bring Moore’s best 14-week point total to 758, and bring his WPA up to 47. Moore will also be looking to net on a 39, and a 50-point win would bring his point total up to 769.
Berry has 710 points and still has one more week to earn full points before reaching the 14-week mark of his season. A 50-point win would give Berry 760 points and an opportunity to shoot up into the Top 10 of the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series point standings.
Roger Witt of Batesville, AR is 16th in the standings with 727 points, but he also has Top 10 potential if he races for the next four weeks to earn his final 25 Bonus Points. That alone would bring his best 14-week total up to 752. Witt will be trying to net on a 41 in NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Week 22 action.
In other news, Magnolia Motor Speedway in Columbus, MS has announced they will hold the final race of the 2012 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series season on Sunday, September 30. The $10,000 National Championship and the Top 10 points fund-paying positions could very well be decided on the “Black Ice” of Magnolia Motor Speedway.
The remaining NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series week-by-week schedule has been updated and posted at www.nesmithracing.com on the Weekly Racing Series web site.
Drivers in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series compete against each other using a points system that counts their best 14 week point totals, plus up to 100 bonus points, over the 27-week season. They are competing for a $20,000 point fund that pays back ten spots at the end of the season. The 2012 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Champion will earn a $10,000 top prize.
When a driver reaches the 14-week point in their season, they begin netting points by attempting to replace the lowest weekly point total in their 14-week total with a higher one. The points system for fields of eight or more cars is 50 points to win and one point less per position back to tenth. Drivers that finish tenth on back receive 41 points.
The points system for fields with less than eight cars pays 40 points to win, and one point less per position back through the seventh spot. Drivers that attempt to compete, but don’t start the main event receive 25 points. Drivers can compete in as many events as they can each week, but only their highest event point total counts for that week.
