Thanks to Florida’s Barn, the Open Wheel Modified class will have a little extra money in their purse Saturday night at Auburndale Speedway. Saturday’s

40 lap headliner will now pay $700 to win along with $500 for second and $400 for third place. Along with the Modifieds, the Modified Mini Stocks, Street Stocks, Mini Stocks, Scramblers and V-8 Bombers will also be in action.

Although James Wright III has yet to win this year in the Open Wheel Modified class, he now has hold of the point lead in the class. Wayne Morris, who failed to show for the last race, has dropped to third in the standings. Wright has a decent 80 point edge on two-time winner Bobby Blake while Morris is 14 markers in back of Blake. Wright III has used consistency to snare the top spot in the standings. In eight races, Wright has finished second three times and third twice. Travis Roland has been the hottest driver in the class during the last three events with a win, a second and a fourth place finish to his credit.

The Street Stock point battle continues to heat up. After both Matt McCrary and Jeff Waterman had bad nights last week, race winner Dave Colpritt has closed to within shouting distance of the two leaders. McCrary, who had his first win in the bag last week before hitting the wall with less than two laps to go, still leads by 16 over Waterman who had to battle a sick engine all evening last Saturday. Colpritt’s win moved him to within 44 points of the lead.

Modified Mini Stock point leader Scotty Sharpe is coming of his first win in the class last time out. The point battle in the class is far from over as Jason Rendell sits just 12 back of Sharpe and just two points separate Rendell from third place Mike Sweet.

The fight for the Mini Stock point title is still a two-man show with Chris Spring leading Fred Harrison, Jr. by 30. Together, the pair have won 15 of the 20 features run so far this year. Jason Swilley should take over third in points this week from Chris Narmore, Sr. who is no longer active in the class.

Brian Tyre is the new point leader in the Scrambler division after previous point leader Kim Gullett’s car was DQ’d after an apparent win last week. Tyre still has only a six point edge on Gullett who vows to be back on top again after this week. Chad Cutting continues to lurk in third spot, 64 points out of first. The class continues to be very competitive as there have been 11 different winners in the 15 races held.

The once huge point lead of Josh Borem has now been trimmed to just 50 in the V-8 Bombers. Borem has not raced in over a month and Buddy Phillips, Jr.

has been steadily eating away at Borem’s advantage.

There will be open practice for all divisions Thursday evening from 5-8PM. Cost is $10 per person. Saturday, pit gates open at 2PM, grandstands open at

5PM, Open Wheel Modified qualifying will be at 7PM followed by all the racing action. Adult admission is $12, seniors are $10, kids 5-12 are $5 and children 4 and under are free. Family packs are $25.

All kids aged 10 and under will receive an extra ticket from “Lindsey’s Little Racers” and will be eligible for two great prize packs donated by Martha Nemecheck & Chek Motorsports. Twenty free ice creams will also be up for grabs courtesy of Street Stock drivers Dave Colpritt and Jerrell Cook.
