Rusty Marcus Returns to Monroe Motor Speedway for 2010 Race Season

Monroe, LA (March 12, 2010) Now that Monroe Motor Speedway is back in business, General Manager Rusty Marcus has headed back to the track.

Marcus, who took the job in 2009, has been in Florida but is headed back to Louisiana for what he hopes to be a “great” year.

Marcus, who recently ran the Fun in the Sun Winternationals at Orlando SpeedWorld, is very excited about 2010 at Monroe.

“Now that we have our track back, it is time to get to business of racing. Check our website for updates on the 2010 season. We hope to start some open practice soon and then the 2010 season shortly after that.”

Marcus, who was previously the General Manager at Orlando SpeedWorld in Orlando, Florida, was the 2005 Lowe’s Motor Speedway Promoter of the Year in only his first year as a General Manager.

Marcus went on to work for SpeedWorld until 2009 when he took the job as General Manager for a new racetrack in Louisiana, Monroe Motor Speedway.

Marcus has a big job ahead of him but he is definitely up for the challenge in 2010.

LINDSEY’S LITTLE RACERS MAKING IT FUN FOR THE KIDS AT AUBURNDALE SPEEDWAY

by Dave Westerman

Every Saturday night at Auburndale Speedway, as families make their way from the ticket window to the grandstands, each child ten years of age and under is given a special ticket. At intermission, numbers from those tickets are called and two lucky youngster receive a fantastic gift packet while several more get a free ice cream, or, has been the case with the cold weather, cup of hot chocolate.

The program is called “Lindsey’s Little Racers,” named for its founder Lindsey Bruce. Each week she and her family work diligently to see that the kids have a great time at the race track.

The beginning started in August 2000 with Lindsey and her dad going to races together as father and daughter bonding. Lindsey’s dad knew alot of the drivers, the staff, and the owners of the track. Lindsey had befriended a staff member’s young son who loved to collect race cars. Lindsey came home and went thru her racing stuff and found a car that she had two of. The next week she gave it to the young boy. He got so excited that Lindsey had given him the car.

Lindsey came home that night feeling proud that she made a difference in the young boy’s life. Of course the young boy had to tell his friends about what Lindsey had done. So the next week his friends asked her if she had anything else they could have.

On the way home that night, Lindsey asked her dad if he had any extra race cars or cards that she could give to the boys… and there you have the beginning of Lindsey’s Little Racers.

After a few weeks the whole family got involved. Lindsey’s mother started shopping around for race items. Her dad went to a few businesses that gave him stickers, pictures, cars, and hats to give away. The owners of Auburndale Speedway loved this and the “Just For Kids Program” was started.

In 2007, the drivers came on board sponsoring ice cream, toys, and bicycles to give away. Since taking over the track, owner Rex Guy, his family and staff have been overwhelmingly supportive.

The program continues into the 2010 season and is now known simply as “Lindsey’s Little Racers.” Precision Air has come on board as a corporate sponsor this season and prizes have been donated so far by the legendary Bobby Allison along with such well-known names as “The First Mom of NASCAR,” Martha Nemecheck. The Car Doctor, Narramore’s Machine Shop, Mini Stock Champion Fred Harrison, Jr. and several others have stepped up to purchase the ice cream for the kids.

The Bruce’s have secured a number of quality memorabilia items that are being raffled off to the crowd each week with the money being raised going to purchase bicycles to give away. The first pair of bikes (one boys and one girls) will be given away on Saturday, March 20th during the racing action which will be headlined by the F.A.S.T. Late Model Series. It is hoped that a pair of bikes can be given away at least once a month.

Last years downturn in the economy kept the bike giveaway program at a minimum, but this year things are looking better.

“We have to remember that the kids are the future of this sport, whether as future fans or even drivers,” says Julius Bruce. “If they have a fun night at Auburndale, they and their parents will be back again and again. It’s a win-win situation for everybody,” he says.

If you would like to sponsor “Lindsey’s Little Racers”, you can contact Julius or Lindsey Bruce at 863-293-0963 or by e-mail at jbruce2@tampabay.rr.com. Or you can just see Julius, Lindsey or announcer Dave Westerman at Auburndale Speedway on Saturday night if you want to get involved… and parents, make sure to bring the kids!!

AUBURNDALE SPEEDWAY SHOWCASES SIX RACING DIVISIONS THIS

by Dave Westerman

Auburndale Speedway completes its first month of racing action with a six division program Saturday night.

The Sportsman cars make their second appearance of the year. Veteran Dave Dunkin leads the points on the strength of his win two weeks ago.

Also back for their second race of the year are the Modified Mini Stocks. Jason Rendell won on opening night and thus leads the point chase heading intothis weeks racing.

Things are extremely close in the Mini Stock class with point leader Chris Spring just two points ahead of Chris Narramore, Sr. and four markers in front of defending champion Fred Harrison, Jr. All three drivers have scored a win already this season.

The Street Stocks are back in action once again this week with Jeff Waterman currently on top of the points battle by six tallies over rookie Matt McCrary.

In the V-8 Bombers, Josh Borem is undefeated so far this year with two of those wins coming because the apparent winner of the race was found illegal in tech. Borem holds an 18 point lead right now over second place Buddy Phillips, Jr.

The Scramblers will round out the action Saturday night. Matt Johns already has a rather comfy 58 point lead just three weeks into the racing season.

This Saturday, pit gates open at 2PM, grandstands at 5PM and racing starts promptly at 7PM. A new policy is in effect regarding pit passes. All persons wanting to purchase a pit pass who are not with a race car must purchase those passes at the front ticket window. This is to allow things to move much
quicker at the pit ticket booth.

Post FX Digital Video and TV Showcaster Gear Up For 2010 Webcasts

by Dave Westerman Post FX Digital Video located in Orlando, FL is getting ready to provide live webcasts of Central Florida racing once again this year through their web site www.tvshowcaster.com starting with this Saturdays events at Volusia Speedway Park near Barberville, FL.

Currently, the Volusia webcasts are being sponsored by America’s Incredible Pizza which continues to open new franchises nationwide. Incredible Pizza is based in Missouri.

Post FX founder Dean Baker is hoping to expand webcasts this year to include other race tracks in Florida if extra funding and sponsorships can be found.

“We’d like to make this sort of a traveling road show that would showcase all the tracks and give fans world-wide a chance to see various types of racing in Florida,” says Baker. “However, right now our sponsorship dollars are allowing us to just do a weekly show from Volusia and, at this point, it will only be for a few weeks,” he continues.

Baker would like to take the Post FX crew to tracks like Auburndale, Citrus, Ocala and East Bay, just to name a few, but right now the money is just not there to do it.

Anyone wishing to sponsor the webcasts will get quite a nice advertising package and prices are being kept low so that anyone can sign up as a sponsor.

“All they have to do is let me know what they can commit to, and I’ll work with them,” says Baker. “We will definitely give them their moneys worth,” he says.

Post FX is also looking for individuals interested in marketing the
webcasts. Baker says that anyone bringing in sponsors will be paid a very nice commission. “We know there are a lot of people out there who can use a bit of extra cash, and this is a great way to get that cash, especially if you have a marketing or sales background and like racing,” he says.

For persons interested in sponsorships or in marketing the webcasts, contact Dean Baker at (407) 299-8114 or at dean@postfxvideo.com.

This weeks webcast can be viewed for FREE by logging on to
www.tvshowcaster.com. The webcast from Volusia Speedway Park begins at 7PM EST.

More Firsts In Ocala’s Second Week of Action

by BJ Cavin

The second week of regular season racing action at Florida’s oldest speedway will bring another round of firsts to Ocala area race fans, including a new regular division making their debut at Ocala Speedway.  Meanwhile three other regular divisions will get their first crack at Ocala’s tough layout in 2010 on Friday, March 12th.
While the Sportsman Division has made previous appearances at Ocala for special races, 2010 marks the first time that Sportsman cars will be a regular part of the Ocala schedule.  This change is the direct result of constant urging by many sportsman racers who have asked for the chance to race at Ocala on a regular basis, and Friday night is the first race since that change was enacted.

The Sportsman cars will race on the same nights as the Open Wheel Modifieds, which are also racing for the first time in 2010 on Friday at Ocala.  2009 Division Champion, Jeff Mathews, will be back to defend his title, and the racers who made the OWM’s one of the stronger divisions in 2009 will be there to challenge him.  Add to their ranks a new set of new faces and the Mods look to be exciting and competitive in 2010.

The Ocala Speedway Hobby Stocks will also hit the clay on Friday night, not only to kick off their season, but to get some seat time before their $1000 to win race coming the following Friday night.  Bubba Christian claimed the championship in 2009, but others have their sights on the prize in 2010.  Look for some new faces as some racers have moved up to the Hobby Stocks for 2010, while others have refocused their efforts at getting to the top of the points standings.

And the Ocala Speedway Gladiators will also get to race for the first time in 2010, as the likes of Devin Walker and Kody Fisher dump their “rookie” status in favor of racing toward the top of the heap.  Paul Hahn grabbed the prize for 2009 with consistency and determination, and will have to defend that crown from a host of hungry challengers.

Back for the second race in 2010 will be the most exciting and competitive division at Ocala, the Amsoil V8 Thunder Stocks.

The grandstand gates will open at 5PM with heat racing slated to begin at 8PM, and complete details on prices for admission are posted at www.OcalaSpeedway.com, as well as the complete racing schedule through the first week in May.

UDLMCS Race at Hendry County Motorsports Park Postponed

by Cynthia Cavin, Speedway Media

Sunoco United Dirt Late Model Challenge Series director Ken Kinney has decided to pull the plug on the race scheduled at Hendry County Motorsports Park for this Saturday, March 13th.  As Kinney explained the situation, the Sunoco United Dirt Late Model schedule was planned far in advance, and this event was inadvertently scheduled on top of the season opener at Volusia County Speedway.

Kinney stated that in order to be a good working partner with the racing facilities that host his series events throughout the season, he would rather postpone or even cancel the event rather than create a situation that could pull cars away from any speedway that hosts UDLMCS races in 2010.No firm decision has been made as to whether the event will be made up at a future date or not, and it is possible that the event could be rescheduled at another Florida race track later in the UDLMCS calendar year.

Series officials will confer with possible host tracks for a suitable date and make a decision from there. Kinney added that hopefully the race can be rescheduled at a time when the Florida weather is warmer, and therefore more comfortable for fans and racers alike.  A regular divisional late model race will run at Hendry County Motorsports Park in place of the postponed series race.

The postponement means that the next scheduled race for the Sunoco United Dirt Late Model Challenge Series Southern Division will be at North Florida Speedway in Lake City, on Saturday May 1st.  That event will be a 50 lap race with $3000 going to the winner.
