Florida’s Newest Dirt Website Has Got a Deal For You

FDTN MEDIAMerritt Island, FL (March 19, 2010) Florida’s newest dirt track website is looking for a few good sponsors for the site. If you have not checked it out yet, go to www.floridadirttracknews.com.

Jane Smith, webmaster and owner of the site, covers all eight dirt tracks in the state of Florida from Southern Raceway and Northwest Florida Speedway in Northern Florida to Ocala Speedway, East Bay Raceway Park, North Florida Speedway, Hendry County Motorsports Park, Putnam County Speedway and Volusia Speedway Park.

“So far the new dirt website is doing great and we are getting a very good response from the dirt racing community,” said Smith. “I have been doing live updates on Saturday from Volusia and the fans seem to really like that and no other race track at this time is doing that.”

“Soon we will start our driver profiles and staff/official profiles. If there is one driver in particular that fans would like to see profiled, just write racingjls@aol.com and send in their name and why you would like to see them profiled.”

Advertising rates are very reasonable at www.floridadirttracknews.com. To check out the rates you can e-mail me directly racingjls@aol.com and I will get back with you right away.

No other website in Florida showcases all eight dirt tracks in the state and dirt is growing bigger and bigger so if you love dirt and have racing products that the racers will be looking for, check out floridadirttracknews.com for your advertising needs.

“I started this site because last year I switched from asphalt to dirt track racing,” said Smith. “I had always been around asphalt only and only gone to a handfull of dirt races but once I got to Volusia and saw how much fun dirt really is and how much better their car counts are and fan base, I knew I had to start this site for all those dirt track race fans.”

Be sure to check out the forum for live-updates every Saturday night from Volusia Speedway Park on www.floridadirttracknews.com. Also check out the front page for all track news and race results each week. Plus check the gallery for photos from various tracks each week and the 2009 Champions in dirt.

If you are a dirt track racer or provide parts for dirt cars, be sure to check out www.floridadirttracksnews.com for reasonable advertising.

“Just in case I have more problems, I will still do up-to-the-minute updates on the forum at floridadirttracknews.com. This way if you can’t make it to the races, the races can come to you”.

Impressive List Of Outlaws To Battle At Ocala

by BJ CavinWith time winding down until Friday night’s debut of the World of Outlaws Late Model Series at Ocala Speedway, the final confirmations are coming in from the race teams which plan to challenge each other and Florida’s oldest speedway. As the list grows so does the celebrity of the names that it contains, and the list of local racers who plan to take on the top names in dirt late model racing continues to expand as well. And with $10,000 going to the winner of the 50 lap main event, both lists could balloon even more by race time.

As of Wednesday night, World of Outlaws Late Model Series regulars planning to be at Ocala Speedway include Steve Francis, Darrell Lanigan, Chub Frank, Tim McCreadie, Josh Richards, Tim Fuller, and many others. Other racers are expected, and some have indicated their intentions to race at Ocala via their websites, but officials have yet to receive their commitment announcements by press time. It is the policy of Ocala Speedway not to publish the names of any racers that have not officially committed to appearing.

Ocala Speedway owner Mike Peters says that he has been contacted by at least 10 racers who are more familiar to the local crowd, including Ocala’s own Ivedent Lloyd Jr. Local fans know that the late model racers form the Florida and south Georgia area are tough, and will enjoy seeing them match up against the best of the best from the World of Outlaws. It all adds up to somewhere between 30 and 40 cars vying for 24 starting positions in the feature event.

In addition to the World of Outlaws Late Models, fans will get to see the Ocala Speedway Hobby Stock Division make their first laps on the clay with $1000 going to the winner. First time Hobby Stock contenders are slated to do battle with divisional veterans, and some who normally race elsewhere will be tempted to go for the money at Ocala on Friday.

Ocala’s Mini Stocks also will be racing, making Friday their second outing in 2010. After a surprising outcome on opening night where race leader Keith Briggs pulled out in the final laps, another tough field of contenders will be out to challenge the 2009 Division Champion, Paul Combast, for this year’s title.

The pit gate will open at 1PM and the grandstand gates will open at 5. There is no reserved seating so fans are urged to come early for the best seats and enjoy the pre race festivities, including qualifying. Heat races will begin at 8PM, followed by B mains and feature events. For more information, go to www.OcalaSpeedway.com, or phone the track at 352-622-9400.

F.A.S.T LATE MODELS HEADLINE A FULL SHOW SATURDAY NIGHT AT AUBURNDALE SPEEDWAY FRIDAY PRACTICE OPEN TO ALL FANS WITH FREE FOOD & MUSIC

by Dave WestermanAuburndale Speedway returns to action this Saturday night which features a huge card of eight racing classes headed up by the Florida All Stars Tour (FAST) Late Models for the Port City Race Cars/AMF Chassis 100.

Between 25-30 FAST Tour machines are expected Saturday night with everyone looking to unseat Wildwood’s Wayne Anderson from his current hot streak. Anderson has won both Tour events held already this year at Citrus County Speedway and Orlando SpeedWorld and currently leads the FAST Tour points by 40
markers over rookie driver C.J. Calabrese.

Calabrese is just one point ahead of fellow rookie contender Austin Kirkpatrick while another rookie and the point leader’s son, Randy Anderson, is currently fourth in the standings.

Jeremy Gerstner is fifth in points headed into the event at Auburndale. Lakeland resident Steve Dorer has actually accumulated enough points to be in second place right now but he in ineligible at present because he is not a member of the FAST Tour. Dorer should be a strong contender Saturday evening
along with other heavy hitters expected to take part including Raymond and Perry Lovelady, Dalton Zehr, Alan Bruns, Todd Allen, John Gerstner, Casey Caudill, Kyle Maynard, J.R. McMickle, David King and many others.

Several Auburndale Speedway “regulars” will be making their first attempt at the FAST Tour. One of those may be 2009 Dwarf Car champion Johnathan Guy if his testing sessions are good enough this week.

The Legend Cars return after a week off for their Florida Tour event at Citrus last week. Jake Perkins is on a roll having won that race last week as well as the season-opener at Auburndale two weeks ago.

The Street Stocks have been putting on some heated action so far this year and the point race reflects it as rookie driver Matt McCrary now has the point lead by just a pair of markers over Jeff Waterman. Expect plenty more slam-bang action again this week.

Josh Borem continues to lead the V-8 Bomber points after three victories and a second place finish so far this year. Borem is now 28 points in front of second place Buddy Phillips, Jr. as disqualifications have been the rule rather than the exception this year as tech inspector Ted Head attempts to get the class “in line.”

Chris Spring has increased his lead in the Mini Stock points battle to 12 in what is still a close battle between Spring, Donnie Guy, Fred Harrison, Jr. and Chris Narramore, Sr. Only Guy has failed to win a feature so far this year.

Although Matt Johns missed the action last week, he still leads the
Scrambler points by 28 over new second place Kimberly Gullett. Brian Tyre would actually be second in points but he turned his car over to Reggie Ware last week and Ware won the feature with it.

Two classes will make their season debut this week. The Mini Cup cars will be out for their first taste of competition while the Kid’s Club also gets back into action. The Bandoleros are also on this weeks race line-up.

Friday, it’s a special practice session and all fans are invited to come out and join the drivers and teams. Only the pit gate will open starting at 10AM with practice, including the FAST Tour Late Models, starting at 2PM.

Admission is to the pit area only and is $15 per person. Practice ends at 8PM and then the fun begins. There will be plenty of free food courtesy Sonny’s Bar-B-Que, two free kegs of beer, plenty of water and soft drinks and free music provided by the Soggy Bottom Bait Shop Boys.

Fans attending the Friday practice session can bring their pit arm band to the grandstand ticket window on Saturday and get $5 off their general admission ticket. Grandstand gates open Saturday at 5PM with FAST Tour qualifying at 5:30PM and racing at 7PM.

World of Outlaws to Invade Ocala

by BJ Cavin

Ocala Speedway owner Michael Peters has always strived to make his race track the best in Florida, and part of that mission has been to provide the best show possible to Florida race fans. And when it comes to dirt track racing, the World of Outlaws series is synonymous with the best of the best, and therefore as natural fit into Mike Peters’ historic race track. This Friday night, March 19th, the World of Outlaws Late Model Series will invade the clay at Ocala Speedway, with the winner collecting a whopping $10,000 along with the first place trophy.

The World of Outlaws have been circulating within the fan rumor mill around Ocala ever since the old asphalt track was declared dead and buried under Florida gumbo. Even Mike Peters had mentioned bringing the World of Outlaws to Ocala early on, but yet hesitated as the dirt racing scene developed thick and healthy roots in the clay. And just as Ocala Speedway has established itself as one of the top dirt tracks in the region, the time and opportunity for the World of Outlaws to race Ocala has come.

What the World of Outlaws Late Model Series will find at Florida’s oldest track is an odd shaped layout that is never kind to newcomers. As those who race late models at the venerable old track can attest, Ocala’s tricky shape takes time to master, and those who think that they have it figured out sometimes don’t. The question might be which best of the best racers can figure Ocala out first on Friday night, and can they do it before one of the locals uses their experience with the track to their advantage?

What fans will find when the Outlaws come to town is admission prices for the show that are far less than what many tracks have charged for the opportunity to see the World of Outlaws in action. As is the case with the January Winternationals shows, Mike Peters believes in making the best shows as affordable as possible to the fans, and the $25 adult admission ticket to this event is evidence of that. Kids aged 6 to 16 will be admitted for just $12, and kids under 6 will get in at no charge.

In addition to the World of Outlaws Late Models, fans will get to see Ocala’s Hobby Stock Division hit the clay for the first time in 2010 after their debut event was rained out this past Friday. The Hobby Stocks will be fighting for a $1000 payout for the winner, and no doubt will provide quite a show. Also running on this Friday evening will be Ocala’s Mini Stocks.

The pit gate will open on Friday afternoon at 1PM, while the grandstands will open at 5PM with first come, first served seating. Qualifying will follow, with heat races set to begin at 8PM. A complete schedule of events can be accessed at www.OcalaSpeedway.com, and RV parking will be available.
