Auburndale Speedway will be the place to be this Memorial Holiday weekend as the Figure Eight racers make their first appearance of the year while the Southeast Champ Kart Series (SECKS) entertains for the second time this season. Also on tap are the Sportsman Cars, Street Stocks, Legend Cars, Mini Stocks, V-8 Bombers and Bandoleros. The night will end with a big Demolition Derby.
The Southeast Champ Kart group always put on a dynamic show and expect plenty of karts to be on hand Saturday. Tim Simmons leads the SECKS point standings following his recent win at Citrus County Speedway. Kenner Brown III trails Simmons by 25 points heading into this weeks action. Romay Venta, Ryan Walters and Billy Smith sit third through fifth in the standings while the winner at Auburndale back on March 13th, Dustin Chisholm, is eighth in the current SECKS standings.
The Sportsman cars return after a slam-bang affair two weeks ago that left several cars in need of new body panels. Dave Dunkin continues to lead the point chase by eight markers over young Austin Carr while Mark Medeiros is now just four points behind Carr after winning his second race of the year two weeks ago.
Jeff Waterman’s win last week coupled with an absolutely terrible night for Matt McCrary saw Waterman regain the point lead by 20 over McCrary. Each driver has suffered through some awful weeks in the last month and that has allowed steady Dave Colpritt to climb to within 34 points of the division lead.
Gerald White, Jr. added to his Legend Car point lead with yet another win last week. White now has a somewhat comfortable 32 point edge over Jake Perkins. Meanwhile, third place Justin Brown has climbed to within just two points of Perkins.
The Mini Stock point battle continues to be hot and heavy as Chris Spring holds a slim six tally advantage over Fred Harrison, Jr. with Chris Narramore, Sr. not that far behind in third. The fourth place driver in points, Donnie Guy, doesn’t have a race car anymore, having sold his mount to Narramore.
Josh Borem continues to run and hide in the V-8 Bomber point chase. Borem has now opened up his lead over Buddy Phillips, Jr. to 112 points.
Saturday, pit gates open at 2PM, grandstand gates open at 5PM and racing begns at 7PM.

NOTES:
The month of June will be very active at Auburndale Speedway starting with the return of School Bus Figure Eight racing on June 5th. The Auburndale Trucks make their third appearance of the year on June 12th while the next big Late Model race is scheduled foJune 19th along with the return of the Mini Cups. The Open Wheel Modifieds are enjoying a bit of time off, but will return to action on June 26th before the speedway takes a week off to celebrate the July 4th Holiday.
The representatives from Aarons were overwhelmed at the fan response at last weeks’ races, so much so they plan to return later in the year. Several fans hauled of great raffle prizes from Aarons last week including a 60 inch TV, some desk top printers, a camera and more. It was good to see that many of the winners were Auburndale Speedway “regulars” who support the track week in and week out.
The young lady who won a bicycle as part on the ongoing “Lindsey’s Little Racers” program was very, very young… a baby in fact. Her parents decided to give the bike to an older girl who was part of a family they had come to the races with… a very nice gesture. The next “Lindsey’s Little Racers bike giveaway will be on June 5th, the night of the School Bus Figure Eight race. The fans have been supporting the weekly raffle drawings very well which is allowing for the purchase of more bicycles this year. Prizes are needed to support the raffle, so if you have anything you’d like to donate, just bring it to the track on Saturday evening and you’ll get plenty of publicity for it. Speaking of publicity, Auburndale Speedway is looking for a seat cushion sponsor. This is a great way to prmote a business while keeping the fans more “comfortable.” Fans have also been asking about Auburndale Speedway shirts and hats. The track is seeking a partner to help produce apparel for the speedway. If you are interested in getting involved, please contact Announcer/PR Director Dave Westerman by e-mail at announcerdave@usa.net.

Racers had their last bit of seat time before the Taylor Racing Products Sportman Spectacular this past Saturday night in a feature race won by the current points leader, Aaron Barsness. And While Barsness was winning, he also added to his lead over second place Shaun Daugharty, Daugharty’s night began with bad luck and finished with a less than stellar performance that earned him a ninth place finish, so Barsness now has a 21 point cushion at the top. But those roles are reversed in the DIRTcar UMP Sportsman national rankings, as Shaun Daugharty is ranked fourth and Barsness is right behind him in fifth place.
Things are tight at the top of the Daytona Sportswear Street Stock points rankings with Phillip Brown still holding onto first place. But Trevor Gamble is a mere 7 points shy of the leader while Tim Hughes is 4 points further back. But while these racers hold onto the top three spots in the points, the current hot shoe belongs to Mike Tovet, who has won two out of the last three outings. Tovet is holding onto fourth place in the points and climbing, but right now is still 102 points out of the top spot. While Trevor Gamble may be trailing Phillip Brown in the VSP points race, he is the top dog nationally in the DIRTcar UMP Stock Car standings, while Tim Hughes follows him by a mere 2 points. Phillip Brown is sixth in the national standings.
When it comes to the Amsoil Synthetic Lubricants Thunder Stocks at Volusia Speedway Park, Scott Mooers reigns supreme. Not only does he hold the lead in the VSP 2010 points standings by a whopping 154 points over Luke Sadler, but he is also to top man in the DIRTcar UMP Factory Stock national standings as well by 97 points. But apparently Luke Sadler failed to get the memo about Scott Mooers being a superman because Sadler beat him last Saturday night, and is gunning to do it again this weekend. And Sadler is no slouch himself, currently ranked fourth in the national standing behind Mooers.
Things have started to scramble a little as some new faces ascend to the front of the field in the Challenger Division. First it was Shawn Kosier who dominated the division, then Casey Feaster took a turn at the top, now the division is seeing a different winner every weekend as Allen Espy, Tony Laporta, and this Harold Lewis all have enjoyed celebrations in Victory Lane. Despite recent events, Shawn Kosier still holds onto the VSP 2010 points lead by 51 over R.J. Glaser, and is still hanging in there in tenth place in the DIRTcar UMP Sport Compact national rankings, with R.J. right behind him in the twelfth spot.

It will be another big evening of racing action Saturday night at Auburndale Speedway as the Late Models return for their latest showdown in the AMF Chassis/Chassis Works 100. Also on tap will be the Modified Mini Stocks, Street Stocks, Mini Stocks, Legend Cars, Scramblers, V-8 Bombers and Bandoleros.
Fans are invited to come out for a special practice session on Friday night.
All fans are welcome to come in the pit area, see the cars up close and meet the drivers. Practice will begin at 5PM and continue until 8PM. At that time everyone is invited to enjoy free hot dogs, hamburgers, beer and drinks along with a live Country band courtesy of Elkins Automotive. Admission to the pits is just $10 and the practice session is not just for Late Models, but all Auburndale racing classes. Kart racing will also be going taking place on the dirt track at the front of the Speedway beginning at 8PM, so fans will have plenty to do.
Grandstand gates will open at 5PM on Saturday with qualifying for all classes beginning at 5:30PM. Racing will commence at 7PM.
Tim Russell is expected to return to try and make it two wins in a row after taking the AMF Chassis 100 a few weeks ago leading flag to flag. Jeff Choquette will be making his first-ever start at Auburndale Speedway in the Fountain Motorsports entry and is one among several top drivers looking for a big win. Jeff Scofield, Kevin Ingram, Tyler Laing, Perry Lovelady, Joe Boyd, Ron Lofquist, Jason Vail, Raymond Lovelady, Jimmy Casselberry and David King are just of few of the other drivers expected to be in action.
Scofield currently leads Vail by 44 points in the Late Model standings while Ingram is just two behind Vail.
The Modified Mini Stocks return this week with Scotty Sharpe still on top of the point list by 34 over Jason Rendell while Mike Sweet sits 48 points out of first. Lee Davis and his new car dominated the last time out, so the top three in points are looking to find a way to get to the checker first.
The Street Stocks, Mini Stocks and Scramblers all had a rare weekend off last week so look for plenty of slam-bang action in those classes this week.
Matt McCrary is now back on top of the Street Stock point standings but by just four ahead of Jeff Waterman. Dave Colpritt continues to inch his way closer to the top and is now just 36 markers back of the leader. Defending Street Stock champion James Wright III still has plenty of work to do if he plans a repeat performance of 2009, sitting 102 points behind McCrary.
The Mini Stock point battle continues to be a close one as Chris Spring has re-taken the top spot from Fred Harrison, Jr., but only by two points. Chris Narramore, Sr. is third, 20 behind Spring and Donnie Guy remains within shouting distance some 38 points back of the leader.
The Scrambler point chase has tightened up with Brian Tyre now just four tallies behind leader Kim Gullett. Chad Cutting remains third in Scrambler points but is 60 out of first right now.
With yet another win last week, Gerald White, Jr. has opened up a bit more ground in the Legend Car points, now leading Jake Perkins by 24 and third place Justin Brown by 32.
Buddy Phillips, Jr. did not race last week and that has allowed Josh Borem to pull out to a big 106 point advantage in the V-8 Bomber standings. Meanwhile, Cameron White has an already huge lead in the Bandolero Bandit points of 286 over Derek Sobel. Teddy Lively has now taken over the Bandolero Outlaw point lead by 16 over Andy Metz.
