TBARA Points Chase Up-date

by Marty Little

ORLANDO, Fla. – With just two races remaining on the TBARA schedule, DeSoto Super Speedway on October 30 and Citrus County Speedway on November 6 only 26 points separate the two front runners, Shane Butler and Dude Teate. With 55 points available at each event, neither of them can afford to have a bad night at the races. Butler has led from the outset with Teate as low as fifth at one juncture of the season. Teate has been on a tear lately with his number 0 Diablo chassis, Progressive Engines powered sprinter wining four of the last six races and finishing in the top five in the other two. Third and fourth place runners, Bo Hartley and Larry Brazil, Jr. are mathematically in the hunt but can only get to the lead if Butler and Teate have two very bad nights.

The top ten in TBARA points: 1 Shane Butler – 760 points. 2 Dude Teate – 734. 3 Bo Hartley – 700. 4 Larry Brazil, Jr. – 662. 5 Ben Fritz – 586. 6 Sonny Hartley – 547. 7 Johnny Gilbertson – 536. 8 Troy DeCaire – 449. 9 Steve Heisler – 394. 10 Dakotah Stephens – 385.

Teate was TBARA Champion in 1999, 2003 and 2004 while young Butler topped the points chase in 2002.

VSP Night of Champions Rescheduled

by BJ Cavin- VSP Media

BARBERVILLE, FL-  With the 2010 racing season over at Volusia Speedway Park, all that remains undone this year is to officially award the dedicated division champions who helped make this year’s racing season so exciting at the south’s fastest half mile.  But that task will be delayed as the VSP Night of Champions has been postponed until Saturday, November 13th, due to scheduling conflicts.  The event will be held at Volusia Speedway Park at 6PM, and those who need information or wish to purchase tickets can contact the VSP office at 386-985-4402.

The original date of October 30th seemed like a good idea at the time, falling just two weeks after the final races were run at the speedway.  However, the fact that October 30th is Halloween weekend created conflicts for many racers who had family holiday events planned, and was certain to force some to make hard choices.  With that in mind, the management at Volusia Speedway Park was able to arrange for the event to move to November 13th where far fewer conflicts could interfere with the festivities, and where far more racers and their families would be able to attend.

As originally planned, the Night of Champions will take place at Volusia Speedway Park.  Parking will be available in the infield, with the banquet and other activities taking place under large tents set up on the paved staging area next to the frontstretch.  According to Volusia Speedway Park GM Tonya Moshcell, holding the event at the speedway will reduce the costs to the racers during tough economic times, and will bring a more relaxed atmosphere to the events as well.  Every effort has been made to be sure that the event is as comfortable and enjoyable as possible, as well as family friendly.

OPEN WHEEL MODIFIEDS BACK IN ACTION SATURDAY NIGHT AT AUBURNDALE SPEEDWAY

by Dave Westerman

Auburndale Speedway returns to action Saturday night with a seven division program featuring the return of the Open Wheel Modifieds to the speedy quarter-mile. Joining the Modifieds will be the Street Stocks, Legend Cars, Modified Mini Stocks, V-8 Bombers, Mini Stocks and the Bandoleros.

James Wright III is looking to add the 2010 Open Wheel Modified championship to his Auburndale resume and he’s looking very good right now. Wright holds a 124 point edge over second place Wayne Morris with just this weeks race and the Modified season finale on November 6th yet to run. Morris is in a dogfight for second with Bobby Blake who is only two points back of him. Wright won the 2009 Street Stock title but has concentrated primarily on the Modifieds this year scoring two wins and several top three finishes in the highly-competitive class. Still, Wright has had time to pick up eight wins in the Street Stocks this year even though he has not been present for every Street Stock event. With neither of his classes running last week, Wright jumped in his dad’s V-8 Bomber and won the feature in it.

This years’ Street Stock point battle is coming down to a battle between current leader Matt McCrary and Jeff Waterman. Going into this week McCrary has a 20 point advantage on Waterman but the class will be in action every remaining race night this season giving Waterman at least an opportunity to make up the deficit. Despite missing several races, the aforementioned James Wright III is in fourth place in points just 16 back of third place Dave Colpritt.

Jake Perkins added to his Legend Car point lead with his seventh win of the year last week. Perkins is now up by 38 markers over Gerald White, Jr. Justin Brown and Mason Ketterman continue to be in a very close battle for third in points.

The point championship for the Modified Mini Stocks is coming down to the wire with just this week and the race on November 6th to go. Scotty Sharpe maintains the top spot by 14 points over Mike Sweet while Sweet is just 18 points up on Jason Rendell.

Josh Borem continues to have the upper hand in the V-8 Bomber point chase, now holding an 84 point edge on Buddy Phillips, Jr. Preston Davis is solidly third in points but will not be able to catch the two drivers in front of him.

Pit gates open Saturday afternoon at 2PM with the grandstand gates opening at 5PM. Racing action begins at 7PM. Adult admission is $12, seniors are $10, kids age 5-12 are $5 and all children age 4 and under are free. A family four-pack (2 adults and two kids age 5-12) is $25. For more information, log on to www.auburndaleracing.com powered by Palm Tree Computers.

NOTES:

Jeff Scofield’s win last week in the AMF Chassis/Chassis Works 100 earned him the 2010 Auburndale Speedway Late Model Championship. Scofield ended the season 81 points ahead of second place Perry Lovelady. The ageless veteran Lovelady put together a very steady season and finished just four points ahead of third place Tim Russell. Despite missing two of the seven races, Russell took three wins and parlayed that to his third place finish in the standings. Ryan Lisak was fourth in points and Jason Vail finished fifth.

A correction to the results press release from earlier this week rgarding the incident which sent Daniel Webster for a wild ride in the Late Model race.

Ryan Lisak was not involved in the original tangle, instead it was Webster and Steve Tregear. Lisak was unable to avoid Tregear’s machine and that is how he became involved in the crash.

It was officially announced this week that six Florida asphalt tracks have formed an alliance for the 2011 racing season. The tracks are Auburndale Speedway, Citrus County Speedway, DeSoto Super Speedway, and the three tracks sanctioned by the FASCAR oraganization, New Smyrna Speedway, Orlando SpeedWorld and Columbia Motorsports Park. All of the tracks will be working together concerning schedules, rules and much more.

The alliance is setting up a series of twelve Late Model races for next year, two at each track. No name for the series has been chosen but it appears there will be some big-time sponsors coming on board meaning some outstanding purses for the events.

In a major announcement, all six tracks will be running Hoosier Racing Tires in 2011. The three FASCAR tracks are already running Hoosiers while Auburndale, Citrus and DeSoto will make the switch next year.

Track photographer Chuck Green has a brand-new website up and running that is absolutely awesome. Check out his incredible Auburndale Speedway photography at www.chuckgreen.zenfolio.com. Points as of October 16, 2010:

More Excitement Comes to Ocala

by Jimmy Rouse- Ocala Speedway Media

Ocala Speedway has a huge night of action this Friday with the Daytona Antique Auto Racing Association coming to town while the Colortyme Open-Wheel Modifieds, Tee Pee Tire Hobby Stocks, Amsoil V-8 Thunderstocks which will be attempting to win the $1000 prize, and the Gladiators will all run to gain ground in their title chases.

The Colortyme Open-Wheel Modifieds have had an exciting season where a driver just picks up and dominates. Jeff Mathews dominated through most of the summer, but the last 2 races have seen Kyle Bronson win and that has kept Mathews’ lead at 43 points. A winner this season already, Wayne Hammond will keep Bronson on his toes as Hammond hopes to pass Bronson because they’re separated by the slimmest 3 points. Tim Zackery will be gunning for some massive points as he’s 124 back and the same from 5th place Garrett Stewart, 154 behind Mathews. Anything can, and will happen at Ocala though, and we could see a huge points shake-up.

The Tee Pee Tire Hobby Stocks have had a season in which some drivers have had really good luck and some have had really bad luck. Danny Miller found the other end of the spectrum as after he won and won and won, he had the ride of his life last month. Dean Jarvis has beat the gremlins, for the most part, this year and holds 41 points over Heath Walker. Danny Miller is 20 behind Walker which gives Walker some slight breathing room. William Edwards is 97 points out of the lead and Jody Wells is 140 points out of the lead and they’ll both be gunning to hold their top-5 positions.

Mike Stalnaker has dominated the Amsoil V-8 Thunderstocks this year and holds 137 points over Chris Shea. Scott Mooers is 22 points behind Shea, but can’t focus on chasing as he’s got to hold Brian Shea back. Brian Shea is only 1 point behind Mooers and wants that top-3 points finish. Vaughn Woodall is 28 points behind Brian Shea and holds 39 points over 6th place. Woodall will attempt to hold his top-5 while chasing 4th place.

The Gladiators have had a great season of racing, but the points have started to spread out a bit. Last time out, Matt Shea, whom has put 30 points over Devin Walker, won. Casey Feaster is 3rd, 94 points behind Shea, but doesn’t look to throw in the towel. Steven Johnson is 136 points behind Shea, but Johnson has recently hit a hot streak. Kyle Morse holds 5th by over 100 points which gives him a chance to chase and gain the 211 points he is down to Shea.

The gates at Ocala Speedway open at 5PM while racing starts at 8. Prices are as usual and for more information you can call the Speedway or visit www.ocalaspeedway.com.
