SCHOOL BUS FIGURE 8’S RETURN TO ACTION AT AUBURNDALE SPEEDWAY

by Dave Westerman

Cooler weather is expected to greet fans Saturday night at Auburndale Speedway but the action will be hot as the School Bus Figure 8’s are back for their final race of the year. Joining them will be the Modified Mini Stocks, Street Stocks, Mini Stocks, Scramblers and V-8 Bombers.

Chris Spring, Kimberly Gullett and Josh Borem have pretty much wrapped up the 2010 point titles respectively for the Mini Stocks, Scramblers and V-8 Bombers but the point races are yet to be decided for the Modified Mini Stocks and Street Stock Classes.

Scotty Sharpe has an 18 point edge on Mike Sweet in the Mod Mini standings with Sweet just 24 points ahead of Jason Rendell. After this week, just one more race remains for the class on November 20th so every point is important.

Including this week, the Street Stocks still have three races to run including a 40 lap special on November 20th. Matt McCrary has just a 16 point advantage on Jeff Waterman heading into this weeks action.

Track management has announced the final Saturday night of action for this year will be a special Crash N’ Bash slated for December 11th. A full list of events will be posted soon but expect a few things you’ve never seen before at Auburndale Speedway.

Pit gates open at 2PM Saturday and grandstand gates open at 5PM with racing beginning at 7PM. Adult admission is just $12 and seniors are $10. Kids aged 5-12 are $5 and all children aged 4 and under are free. Family four-packs (two adults and two kids aged 5-12) are $25. For more information log on to www.auburndaleracing.com powered by Palm Tree Computers.

It Feels Like the First Time

by Jimmy Rouse- Ocala Speedway Media

As much fun as it is to crown a champion, it’s also sad because the season is ending. On this upcoming night, the Colortyme Open-Wheel Modifieds run their final event of 2010 at Ocala, marking the end of their fantastic season. The Amsoil V-8 Thunderstocks run, as well as the Tee Pee Tire Hobby Stocks and the Gladiators.

The Colortyme Open-Wheel Modifieds, running their final event, will headline the night. Last time out, Kyle Bronson won his 3rd consecutive feature in a very exciting race. The season, however, has been a different story. Jeff Mathews, the 2009 champion, is the current points leader with 39 points over Bronson. Wayne Hammond is in 3rd, 102 points behind Mathews. With a 138 point deficit to the leaders is 4th place Tim Zackery, and 5th place belongs to Garrett Stewart, currently 173 points out of 1st. The title is mathematically down to the top 2, but everyone still wants to win a race in 2010. The Modifieds have a great night in store!

Ocala Speedway has a special $1000 to win, no points, bring your own track rules night for the Tee Pee Tire Hobby Stocks. Even though no points will be rewarded, the most consistent driver has been Dean Jarvis, the current points leader. Heath Walker runs a mere 22 points behind Jarvis, and with no wins in the 55 at Ocala in 2010, he’d love to get to victory lane. Danny Miller has had a season in which he has experienced everything, and he currently runs 45 points out of the lead. Miller prefers to focus on the good, however, and would love to add another win and $1000 to his pocket. William Edwards, 141 points out of 1st, has had a fantastic season and so has 5th place Jody Wells, 169 points back. Both of them would love to add a W in the win column and the $1000 wouldn’t hurt either.

The Amsoil V-8 Thunderstocks have another fantastic race in store this week in which many drivers have something to prove. Mike Stalnaker has proven that he can cope with the pressure of the points lead and currently holds 63 points over Scott Mooers. Mooers still can’t focus on Stalnaker alone as Chris Shea is 74 points behind Stalnaker. In 4th place, fresh off his 1st career win, is Vaughn Woodall, currently 113 points behind Stalnaker. Brian Shea is 140 points behind Mike Stalnaker and will do everything it takes to stay in the top 5. And, don’t forget, Chris Fontaine may run, fresh off his amazing run at Talladega.

Another great event is First Time Winners Night for the Gladiators. Any driver that has won a 2010 Gladiator feature is NOT eligible to run on this night, and of course no points will be awarded. Of the non feature winners, Kyle Morse leads. Morse is 5th overall and this could be his best chance at a win yet. The 2nd place driver with no wins in 2010 is Brandon Haseleu in the 3H. Jerry Taylor is 3rd of the non 2010 winners. Driver #83, Kody Fisher is 4th of the drivers with no 2010 wins. In 9th overall, 5th of the non 2010 winning drivers is Matt Kramer. The great drivers of this series will all battle for their first win of 2010, and it will be good.

Gates open at 5PM with Heat races at 8. Come on out and support your favorite drivers and for more information you can call the Speedway or visit www.ocalaspeedway.com.

The ‘Trick’ To Winning Is A ‘Treat’

by Jimmy Rouse- Ocala Speedway Media

Winning at Ocala sure is a trick, according to most drivers, but plenty of drivers will be looking to add their names to the list of 2010 winners. The Late Models, Amsoil V-8 Thunderstocks, Mini Stocks, and Gladiators will all run on this up-coming night of action. It is Halloween weekend and there will be trick-or-treating and a costume contest at Ocala Speedway. It should be an exciting night for everyone.

The Late Models were at Ocala just 2 weeks ago for the Fall Nationals where Tyler Ivey dominated and took home the big win. Ocala points leader, ‘The Magic Man’ Mark Whitener, looks to spray some dust up and build on his 56 point lead. J.O. Nobles will chase him with an undying spirit, but will be looking out for 3rd place Phillip Cobb whom is just 19 behind Nobles. ‘The Professor’ Ivedent Lloyd, Jr. looks to move in on 3rd, the spot he’s only 4 points behind, and move away from 5th place Christian Augspuirger. Augspuirger is only 12 points behind ‘The Professor’ and wants that 4th place points finish. An exciting night of racing is in store!

Ocala’s own Mini Stocks run this week and ‘Hot Shot’ Keith Briggs looks to win his 7th-in-a-row. However, Briggs is not at the front of the points battle; that belongs to the Kerrs. Nick Kerr leads Dan Kerr by a mere 12 points in a season long battle between family members. ‘Hot Shot’ is 121 points behind Dan Kerr and is chasing a win streak, not a championship trophy now. Buddy Pope looks to attack Briggs because Pope’s only 2 points behind Briggs. Johnny Zackery is 5 points behind Pope and the battle for 3rd-5th could happen to be the most exciting of them all.

When the Amsoil V-8 Thunderstocks ran last, Scott Mooers won a cool $1000 and moved in on Mike Stalnaker in the points. The season seems to have belonged to Stalnaker, though, and he currently leads Mooers by 129 points. Mooers has been in a long battle with Chris Shea over 2nd and Shea won’t let that battle end because Shea is only 3 points behind Mooers. Vaughn Woodall has moved into 4th place and he currently runs 59 points behind Shea and Woodall runs 14 ahead of Brian Shea. The real battle, it seems, is for 2nd in points, but at Ocala, nothing is for certain.

The Gladiators have had a very exciting season and Matt Shea has pulled away in the last couple of weeks. Devin Walker refuses to stand back and watch Shea win that title, and Walker needs to make up the 33 point deficit to win it himself. Casey Feaster has had a bittersweet season. Feaster has won 10 races at Ocala in 2010 and he’s won a title at Volusia, but a little bad luck has Feaster in 3rd, 121 behind Shea. Steven Johnson is 30 points behind Feaster and would love to take 3rd in the championship battle. In 5th place is Kyle Morse and he runs 233 points behind Shea. The Gladiators are bound to have another exciting race and it could severely shuffle the points.

Ocala Speedway opens the gates at 5PM and racing starts at 8. Kids, remember to wear your Halloween costumes! Ticket prices are as usual and for more information, you may call the Speedway or visit www.ocalaspeedway.com.
