Southern All Stars Make First Of Three Stops At Talladega Short Track April 28th

FAYETTEVILLE, TN—The Southern All Stars Dirt Racing Series presented by Max Fab will be making it fourth stop of the year and first of the season at the Talladega Short Track on Saturday night April 28th for the annual NASCAR Weekend event that is 40 laps and will pay $4,000 to win.

Talladega Short Track is one of the top facilities in the country and the Southern All Stars have had a long relationship with the track and this will be the 99th race that the series has ran at the track, which leads all active tracks in sanctioned events held.

This Saturday night drivers from across the region will be on hand to compete and the Southern All Star contingent will be led by a rookie as Jay Scott of Fayetteville, TN., leads the series points standings with Mark Dodson of Caledonia, MS., in second place Ray McElhaney of Pulaski, TN., in third, Brad Skinner of Spring Hill, TN., fourth and Tristan Sealy of Moultrie, GA., fifth all these drivers are expected to be in action this weekend as the point battle heats up for the 35th year of the series. Drivers Joseph Faulkner of Flintville TN., and Tommy Taylor of Lascassas, TN., is close behind in 6th and 7th as they are also making the trip to TST this weekend.

Other drivers that are expected this weekend include four time Southern All Star Champion Riley Hickman of Ooltewah, TN., Jadon Frame of Decherd, TN., Eric Hickerson of Linden, TN., Josh Putnam of Florence, AL., ARCA driver and 2013 Southern All Stars Rookie of the Year Bret Holmes of Munford, AL., 2017 Southern All Stars Champion Austin Horton of Newnan, GA., Cory Hedgecock of Loudon, TN., plus many more drivers from across the region.

The Talladega Short Track posse will also be out in full force as they have some of the top weekly racers in the region with Jason Hiett, Terry Smith, T J Alford, Tim Busha, Dallas Cooper, Tim Roszell, Skip Freeman, Danny Peoples and more.

Pits gates will open early on Saturday so that you can plan to attend events at Talladega Superspeedway as well as a great night of racing at Talladega Short Track. On Friday night the super late model will be in action for a $2,000 to win event also so make you plans now to attend both night of racing concluding with the Southern All Stars race on Saturday night.

Pittman Goes Back-to-Back with Second Consecutive Win at Pevely

PEVELY, MO – April 21, 2018 – Daryn Pittman got underneath Sheldon Haudenschild to lead Lap 31 en route to his second consecutive World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series win of the weekend and second in a row at Federated Auto Parts Raceway at I-55 in Pevely, MO. Donny Schatz finished second and long-time race leader Sheldon Haudenschild completed the podium.

Donny Schatz won the Craftsman Club Dash and earned the pole of the 40-lap Feature alongside Ian Madsen. But it was Madsen who powered around Schatz to lead the opening circuit of the Feature. Sheldon Haudenschild used every bit of the racing surface to quickly take second from Schatz and begin chasing down Madsen for the lead. Just as Haudenschild was ready to make a move on Ian Madsen for the lead on the sixth circuit, the caution flew Ian’s older brother, Kerry, who was facing traffic on the backstretch.

Ian Madsen was able to turn under a pair of Sheldon sliders, before Haudenschild took command to lead Lap 8. As Haudenschild navigated heavy traffic, both Madsen and Pittman were able to erase Sheldon’s lead. Daryn Pittman made an eye-catching three-wide pass for the lead down the backstretch on Lap 13, only for it to be negated by a yellow for Cory Eliason.

As the rubber became more prominent on the racing surface, experience became a factor. Pittman and Schatz quickly closed in on Haudenschild for the lead. Haudenschild had a minor hiccup in turn one and missed the rubber by no more than a car length, but that was all Pittman needed as the 2013 Series Champion stuffed his Kasey Kahne Racing No.9 car underneath Haudenschild to take command down the backstretch. A couple laps later Haudenschild hiccupped in turn one again and Schatz was able to sneak by for second.

Ian Madsen’s top-five run came to an end with five laps remaining, due to a flat tire. A clear track ahead of Pittman allowed the veteran driver to hit his marks en route to his 74th career Outlaw victory.

“Man, this is starting to be fun again. It’s been a frustrating start to the season, but this car has been a blast to drive the past two nights,” Pittman said upon exiting his Ionomy sponsored KKR No.9 machine.

“This is the way we envisioned we would start the year. We are really happy with where we are at right now, this is why you never give up,” an enthusiastic Pittman added. Pittman eluded to the harder tire compound his team elected to go with before thanking his car owner, Kasey Kahne, and all of his sponsorship partners. When asked about the negated three-wide pass for the lead, Pittman said, “I thought that was the end of our chance to win it. This really was a great team win.”

Donny Schatz also went with a harder tire compound. “I was way too loose in the beginning and we had to pay the price, but we made it back it up. All in all, it was a great night,” Schatz said in good spirits.

After leading 22 laps, Sheldon Haudenschild had all the reason to be dejected, but that was not the case. “We definitely want to win these races, but we want to finish them too. I’m happy with a podium. The guys worked really hard after tearing a car up last night. I missed the rubber twice and I got passed twice,” Sheldon, who continues to sit second in the Series Point Standings, said.

David Gravel and Brad Sweet completed the all-Outlaw top five. Nine of the top ten were World of Outlaws regulars, including Brent Marks who came from 22nd to 10th, earning KSE Hard Charger honors. Indiana youngster Cale Thomas was the lone non-Outlaw regular in the top-ten, finishing eighth. Jason Sides set fast-time over the 44-car field for the first time this season.

The World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series completes its three-race bullring weekend Sunday evening at Tri-State Speedway in Haubstadt, IN. Another strong car count is expected, and all the action can be watched live on DIRTVision.com. Next week, the Outlaws ramp up its 40th Anniversary Celebration with three races in four days in Texas, capped off at the Series birthplace, Devil’s Bowl Speedway.

Sheppard from 12th at Whynot Motorsports Park

MERIDIAN, MS– April 20, 2018– The World of Outlaws Craftsman® Late Model Series returned to action on Friday evening at Whynot Motorsports Park for the first of two nights for the inaugural Queen City Shootout. This was the Series first race in 62 days due to several cancellations for weather, but Mother Nature finally showed some mercy and the 50-lap feature was worth the wait. The 2017 World of Outlaws champion Brandon Sheppard charged from 12th to collect his second win of the 2018 season.

“That was definitely not an easy one there. [Chris] Madden and Big Billy [Moyer] did a great job,” said Sheppard. “The track was really tricky tonight. The line kept changing all over the place. I could roll the middle there pretty good for a little bit, and then I could go to the bottom, and then I could move up, and then the middle got dirty there. We had a good car early, I think we just ran the wrong line in qualifying.”

The dominant New Berlin, IL driver qualified 21st overall earlier in the day which placed him fifth in his heat race. Sheppard was able to finish third in his heat which secured his transfer spot into the $10,000-to-win feature event. In the first lap of the race, Sheppard had remarkably gained four positions. By lap 13, Sheppard had bypassed Moyer for second and began chasing down pole-sitter and race-long leader, Madden. Known for his patient approach to taking over the lead position, Sheppard made the pass for the top spot on lap 41 when the perfect time arose.

“Well, I’m pretty sure it was hard to lead that race in the first half since like I said, the line was moving around all over the place,” continued Sheppard. “You know I could see where [Madden] was messing up a little bit. I found a little bit of a line there coming off of [turn] two, to where I could get up underneath him if he moved up again, and that’s what happened. Everything just worked out for us. We were really fortunate to be in a position to take the lead there.”

At the time, Madden was running around the bottom of the racetrack and slightly shifted his line up on the backstretch opening the door for Sheppard to charge through to command the lead. Madden continued to chase down Sheppard throughout the remaining laps in the feature. With five laps to go, the driver of Gray Court, SC headed to the top of the race track hoping to find the extra momentum he needed to reclaim the lead but while doing so, he opened the door for Moyer to steal second and was forced to settle for third.

“We just got too tight right there from about the middle of the race on and when I caught those lapped cars, and I couldn’t use the whole racetrack, I got in some trouble there,” said Madden. “I couldn’t stay down off of two over there and use the moisture like I could. I left the door open and Brandon was there to fill the spot. He was better than we were at the end of the race to steer around the bottom. We tried to go up top to get by Sheppard so we gave up second for third and that’s OK. We were trying to get the win instead of running second.”

“You just had to hit your marks perfect,” said Moyer. “We are happy to get a second here for sure. We had fun. We had a good racetrack. You know, we could move around on there, I thought it was a pretty neat deal.”

The World of Outlaws Craftsman Late Model Series will return to the quarter-mile dirt track at Whynot Motorsports Park on Saturday for the finale of the inaugural Queen City Shootout.

Queen City Shootout Moyer Beats Clanton in Photo Finish

MERIDIAN, MS– April 21, 2018– The “House of Hook” at Whynot Motorsports Park lived up to its name on Saturday evening for the finale of the Queen City Shootout. The World of Outlaws Craftsman® Late Model Series’ 50 lap feature event saw multiple lanes of hooked-up racing. When the checkered flag waved for the final time of the evening, it was Billy Moyer Jr. who was the best of the field claiming his first World of Outlaws win of the 2018 season and third all-time Series win.

Moyer Jr. was overwhelmed with emotion as he climbed out of his car in Victory Lane. He explained to the crowd that at 5 p.m. he received a call saying that his daughter Hallie Rae Moyer (born on March 8, 2018) is not doing well. Receiving the call just one hour before the World of Outlaws were scheduled to hit the track for hot laps, Moyer Jr. explained he felt committed to finishing the night.

“This racing doesn’t mean anything. Right now, I’m thinking about my daughter,” said Moyer Jr. “I’m scatterbrained right now. I got a call at 5 o’clock and my mind is so far in left field I don’t really care about this race right now. I just want to get home to her. Man, they were with me here tonight. I want to make a living and to win, but I need to get back to Arkansas as quick as I can.”

The Batesville, AR driver placed second in Group A Qualifying, won his heat race, and drew the outside pole position for the Craftsman Club Feature. Moyer Jr. commanded the lead on the first lap, only to hand over the top spot once on lap 18 to Mississippi driver Brian Rickman. Chris Madden and Shane Clanton also challenged Moyer Jr. for the lead position but were unable to complete the pass. When the checkers fell, it was a photo finish with only 0.0645 separating Moyer Jr. from Clanton.

“Chris was doing all he could to win the race,” said Clanton. “That’s what we were just saying, ‘we’re here to win the race not to get second’ and he did all he could to get by him. Moyer went to block him and it gave me the opportunity to get in the bottom and I hit Chris a little bit but it’s alright, we were going for the win.”

“I guess it don’t look like we can do no better than third. You know we just keep going for the win there,” said Madden. “We come to win the races, not to run second. We took a shot at him there and if he didn’t move up on me there maybe I could’ve finished the pass. It just kind of killed my momentum and let the hole open for Shane to get back into second.

“Overall, we had a great car all weekend. We started 12th tonight and made it all the way up there to battle for the lead, at least for a little while. I think we can take this momentum here in our new ride and build on it and maybe it will play out good for us at the end of the year.”

The World of Outlaws Craftsman Late Model Series returns to action next Thursday at Smoky Mountain Speedway for a night of practice followed by the doubleheader weekend, The Tennessee Tipoff on Friday and Saturday, April 27-28.

Tanner English Battles Father Terry And Gets His First Southern All Stars Win At Duck River

RACE RECAP: WHEEL, TN–The Southern All Star Dirt Racing Series returned to Duck River Raceway Park Saturday night for the first time since 2001 and the fans that packed the stands got a show from a father & son duo as Tanner and Terry English of Benton, KY., battled side by side for 15 laps till Tanner got the lead for good after a late race restart to get his first Southern All Stars Dirt Racing Series win in the Ducktona 40. They now are the fourth father and son duo to win Southern All Star events. They join Tony and T J Reaid, Billy and Billy Moyer Jr, and Jack and Travis Pennington.

Local favorite and outside pole sitter Brad Skinner of Spring Hill, TN., checked out at the drop of the green but the Skinner but the Skinner bad luck continues as his transmission locked up and ended his night.

Four time Southern All Stars Champion Riley Hickman made his first appearance with the series this season and they knew he was there as he was right behind the English cars battling with them and trying to get around them.

Eric Hickerson of Linden, TN., also returned to the series and he did not disappoint as he came from his 9th starting spot to finish fourth.

Jason Frame of Dechard, TN., also made his first start this year and got a fifth place finish.

Jay Scott of Fayetteville, TN., came home in 6th spot and alto took over the Southern All Stars points lead, 7th Josh Putnam of Florence, AL., who made his first start with the series this year, 8th Corey Posey of Petersburg, TN., also on his first start with the series, 9th went to Allen Murrey of San Antonio, TX., form his 14th starting spot, and 10th went to Caleb Ashby of Cunningham, TN.

GORHAM SURVIVES BLACK FLAG AND ROUGH RACE TO TOP EARTH DAY 125 AT AUBURNDALE SPEEDWAY

It was just “one of those nights” at Auburndale Speedway Saturday night as anything that could go wrong…. well… it did.

The entire show got off to a late start as a pair of brief showers dampened the track during hot laps. Despite the delay, action still got going only 15 minutes late.

The big race of the night was the WPCV 97.5 Country Radio Earth Day 125 “Super 8” Series race for the Super Late Models. Due to the rain, qualifying was held during the middle of the heat races for the other classes.

Joe Boyd of Riverview, winner of the season-opening Super 8 Series event back in March, was fast once again as he set quick time of 13.568 seconds topping the 13.582 lap of Winter Haven’s George Gorham, Jr. with Josh Todd of Polk City third quick at 13.589.

As has been the case for big races here recently, the position re-draw did not go Boyd’s way as the top eight cars from time trials were inverted for the start placing Auburndale drivers Chris Fontaine and Ron Lofquist on the front row. Lofquist was making his first start at Auburndale in quite some time with a brand-new car to boot.

Overall this race would not be pretty as the 125 laps produced two red flag periods and another 15 caution flags before the marathon would end nearly an hour and a half after it started.

Fontaine jumped out to an early lead only to see Todd go for a spin in turn two to bring out the first of the many yellow flags on lap four. Gorham and Boyd, who started seventh and eighth, were already up to fourth and fifth after the restart.

Fontaine continued to set the pace but the caution re-appeared on lap nine for Todd who stopped up high in turn four. The earlier incident had torn a hole in the radiator of his car and he stopped it before any damage could be done to the engine. Not a good night for Todd who had a podium finish last time out.

At the same time Becca Monopoli pitted to have a tire rub fixed.

Things got really chippy on the restart as Lakeland’s Steve Dorer aggressively took the top spot on lap 13 with Gorham also slipping by Fontaine four laps later. The field finally got into some good green flag action as the top five of Dorer, Gorham, Fontaine, Boyd and Lofquist pulled away from the rest of the contenders.

Lap 32 saw Matt McCrary go for a spin off turn two while Boyd got spun off turn four just after the caution was displayed. Boyd got his spot back in the line-up while McCrary took his car pit side as did Blaise Hetznecker although both quickly returned to the fray.

Fontaine was still strong and re-captured second place from Gorham on the restart. Meanwhile Brandon Duchscherer was charging taking fifth spot on lap

40 after starting the race from tenth. Six laps later Fontaine forged his way by Dorer and back into the lead.

Dorer and Gorham then began a fender-wanging duel that saw them both nearly spin each other out on the 47th lap. In fact, Duchscherer dove inside to take third place but the pass was negated by a caution flag for debris on the track. Brian Dorer and Noah Cornman pitted during the yellow but returned.

Duchscherer slipped by Boyd for fourth on the restart just before Hetznecker fell off the pace and retired to the infield on lap 55. One lap later David King spun in turn 4 to bring out the yellow again.

Things got testy on the restart as both Dorer and Boyd spun with track officials seeing Gorham as the culprit for the rough action. Gorham was thus black-flagged and went to the pits for a consultation with officials before returning and restarting at the tail of the field. The cars of Duchscherer and Monopoli also received damage. Duchscherer made a brief pit stop while Monopoli stayed on track.

After all the wild action the new top five now found Fontaine leading Boyd, Jett Noland, Monopoli and Jamie King. Noland slipped into second on the restart as Boyd stayed high and tried to regain the spot but spun in turn one after Noland drifted up in turn one causing Boyd to lose it in the “marbles.”

Boyd pitted and returned but his car would never be as fast as it was earlier.

Dorer pitted during the yellow and did not return.

On the restart the caution was out yet again as Lofquist went for a spin courtesy of Monopoli. There were now 11 cars still in the running, all on the lead lap. Jamie king got by Noland on the restart as the yellow was again displayed when Noland was turned by Brian Dorer. Monopoli pitted to have the bowed-up hood on her machine removed while Boyd also headed for the pit area and called it a night.

Fontaine continued to hold off all challengers as Duchscherer was again on the move as he got around Cornman for third on lap 69. David King spun in turn two during the 75th lap collecting Lofquist but both were able to continue.

Again, both Duchscherer and Gorham were charging hard and moved into second and third by lap 79 and appeared to be a bit quicker than leader Fontaine.

Action was slowed again on lap 81 as Jamie King was sent for a spin by Noland.

Brian Dorer then spun on the restart to keep the yellow out then spun again on the next restart just after Gorham made a pass on Duchscherer for second.

The next restart saw Monopoli take fourth spot as her car now seemed to have “come in” while Duchscherer re-passed Gorham for the runner-up spot on lap 90.

Finally some more green flag racing ensued as Fontaine, Duchscherer and Gorham raced in tight formation up front.

Noah Cornman, driving a great race, had his evening come to a quick end as his car began smoking heavily while he was running fifth on lap 104. Cornman pulled to the infield where the caution came out on lap 107 to check a possible fire in his car. The smoke was actually steam as the car had run so hot it blew the radiator cap off.

It would take several tries to get past the 107th lap starting with Monopoli spinning on the restart and getting hit by Jamie King’s car. King stayed out while Monopoli pitted but did not make it out for the restart.

The next restart saw the worst incident of the night as Fontaine and Duchscherer bumped together in turn four with Duchscherer spinning. Lofquist had nowhere to go and drove over the front end of Duchscherer’s car while Noland also clobbered the Duchscherer machine with Brian Dorer also getting front end damage as well.

This required a long red flag period as both the Duchscherer and Noland cars were done for the night. Lofquist pitted but returned minus the body work on the right side of his new racer. Monopoli returned before the restart and was still on the lead lap while Dorer stayed on the race track.

track officials ruled that Fontaine was at fault for the incident and he went from the lead to the rear of the restart line-up while Gorham now assumed the top spot over Brian Dorer and David King. That pair apparently didn’t like running up front as they tangled on the restart heading into turn one.

Believe it or not the rest of the laps were run under green as Gorham led the remaining distance to score a hard-fought victory. Fontaine was still strong but could never mount a challenge after moving back up into second while Lofquist drove his battered car to third ahead of Brian Dorer and Jamie King.

Noland returned to the race and hung on for sixth while Monopoli fought an ill-handling car over the final laps to finish seventh, the last car of the 15-car field still running although everybody still out there was on the lead lap.

Gorham had a bit of a problem just getting out of his car as his legs were cramping up. “It was a long race, I guess.” said Gorham. “I’ve never had cramps after a race so I guess I probably need to get into the gym,” he joked.

“You know this is a home grown team that works their butts off. We stay up sometimes until two, four o’clock in the morning working on this thing then get right back up and go to work but being here right now makes it all worth it,” Gorham continued.

Fontaine did not come to victory lane obviously upset by the call that took him from the lead. Lofquist was probably as shocked as anybody that he got a top three finish. “You’re right, this is, or was, a new car but the damage is really not that bad and i think we can fix it fairly easy,” he said.

Undaunted, Gorham came back to score another victory, this time in the V-8 Bomber feature again driving the potent Camaro owned by Roy “Bubba” Healey.

This race would also see a rash of caution flags and four different leaders.

Heat winner Bobby Mobley led the first six circuits while Danny Burchfield would then lead a trio of laps before being passed by James Wright III who had pitted after a lap two incident to replace a flat tire.

Wright led through lap 16 but his car was not handling like he wanted and Gorham sped by to lead the rest of the way to take the win over Wright, Burchfield, Mobley, Jody Gill, Ronnie Abney, Jamie Castleberry, Buddy Smith and David Purvis who broke an axle on the ninth lap.

It was yet another “family affair” in the Q Mini Stocks as Chris Narramore, Jr. took the lead from Fred Martin on the second lap then raced to his third win of the year over his dad Chris Narramore, Sr. Bruce Cozad scored yet another third place finish in front of Martin, David McCaig, Duker Holley, T.

Tanner and Amber Eldridge. Donald Gatlin was unable to start the feature.

Narramore, Jr. also won the heat race.

Jim Smith defeated a short field of Legend Cars to claim his second win of the year after earlier winning the heat race. Joey Langis was a distant second ahead of Jade Hubert, new driver Brandon Taylor and Cale Nolen. Kyle Pitts did not start.

Douglas Herrin, Jr. again dominated the Mini Cup class to score his third win in a row. The 13-year-old driver was over a straightaway ahead of second place Clay Samuels. Heat winner Brey Holmes was third trailed by Maria Martins, Bill Rychel, Russell Bush and Kameren Wozunk. Bryton Horner had problems during the heat and did not start the feature.

O’Neil Stands Tall in Second Round of Rancho Milagro Short Track Shootout

LAS CRUCES, N.M. (April 21)–One week ago today, Jake O’Neil led all 40 laps en route to his career-first win with the United States Modified Touring Series and on Saturday night he repeated the feat with a wire-to-wire win at the Southern New Mexico Speedway during the second night of the Rancho Milagro Short Track Shootout.

While the other 25 feature racer starters swapped positions back and forth the entire 40-lap distance, O’Neil was checked out.

A caution with four laps remaining gave his pursuers some brief false hope as the 26-year-old from Tucson pulled away on the restart to put a second USMTS trophy in his case.

“I felt really good,” O’Neil said of his effort. “I knew the track was probably up top. Early on I tried the bottom over here (turn one) a little bit and it seemed pretty good but then I got lapped traffic there and kind of messed up. I was waiting to get past there and I messed up there. I just had to cool down a little bit and slow down to go faster.”

Since returning to action after a four-week layoff, the last four events for the USMTS have seen O’Neil garner two wins, a third and a runner-up finish which he recorded Friday night after starting 14th in his #0 LG2 by Owens machine.

“Jimmy Owens has been a big supporter of mine,” O’Neil added. “He’s taught me a lot the last few years, more so about race preparation than anything. We just have a really good program here; a really good hot rod.”

Las Cruces native Johnny Scott, who won last Friday’s race in Arizona, clawed his way from 13th to finish behind O’Neil at the checkered flag while defending USRA Modified track champion Bumper Jones claimed third after a furious scramble followed the lap-35 yellow flag.

Terry Phillips was fourth at the flagstand and 24 hours after his victory on his home track, Stormy Scott backed it up with a fifth-place result after starting 18th on the field.

Former USRA Modified national champion Jake Gallardo was sixth, Dereck Ramirez passed seven cars on his way to a seventh-place finish, Fito Gallardo earned an eighth-place paycheck, Rodney Sanders nabbed ninth and last year’s Grant Junghans USMTS Rookie of the Year, R.C. Whitwell, completed the top ten.

Fifty-five USMTS drivers strapped in to compete in Saturday’s program.

The Rancho Milagro Short Track Shootout continues Sunday with Anthony Sosa Roofing Late Models, Hacienda Carpet & Tile X-Mods, Casa Nissan Legends Cars and Sun Valley Hardware USRA Stock Cars joining the program for a third straight night.

Gates open at 3 p.m. with racing at 5 p.m. General admission is $15 or a family pack is just $35. Kids ages 10 and under get in free. Pit passes are $40.

Dominant Davenport Rules Hagerstown – Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series

HAGERSTOWN, MD (April 21, 2018) – Jonathan Davenport drove-away from the field on Saturday night at to win the 37th Annual Stanley Schetrompf Classic. The current championship points leader became the eleventh different victor in eleven appearances by the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series at Hagerstown Speedway.

Davenport withstood the challenges of defending track champion Kyle Lee, and Scott Bloomquist early on en route to his fourth series win of the year. Bloomquist held off numerous charges by young Tyler Bare, who was competing in only the third Super Late Model race of his career. Bare ultimately settled for third in his first career LOLMDS start. McCreadie was fourth with Rookie of the Year hopeful, Mason Zeigler completing the top five.

“Man, all the credit goes to my crew. They are awesome. Jason and Tyler do a great job, and Kevin [Rumley] is back there working all the time. This was a new car last week, so we’ve got two wins in three races now. It’s definitely a good piece,” said the 34-year-old in Lucas Oil Victory Lane.

“Thanks to Lance Landers and Steve Martin of Crop Production Services for giving me this opportunity. I was definately getting tighter and tighter at the end. The track was taking a little bit of rubber especially through three and four. Thanks to all the fans for coming out tonight. This one’s for Big C [Carlton Lamm]. Everybody is still thinking about his family. It’s great to win here.”

Bloomquist survived a battle at the end with Bare and McCreadie to bring home another good points night. “Our car was good all night, Jonathan was really good as well. I didn’t know who was driving the 43A car, but we had a good battle there. Another podium finish isn’t bad, we will take it and head to Port Royal tomorrow night.”

Bare held his own against the nation’s top drivers. “These guys in front of me, they are the best of the best. We had a great run. I got into Scott [Bloomquist] once there and he just took off from there. This is only my third super race that I have run. We have run a bunch of crate races. Thanks to Brian Klinedinst for giving me an opportunity to drive his car. We’ll try it again at Port Royal tomorrow night.”

The winner’s Lance Landers Motorsports-owned Longhorn Chassis has an Andy Durham engine under the hood. The sponsors include: Crop Production Services, Spartan Mowers, Valvoline, ASC Warranty, Penske Shocks, Mega Plumbing of the Carolinas, Midwest Sheet Metal, and Sunoco Race Fuels.

SUPER LATE MODELS GEAR UP FOR THE EARTH DAY 125 AT AUBURNDALE SPEEDWAY

After a pair of weekends away from stock car racing for the Night of Destruction and the Polk County Music Fest, Auburndale Speedway is back in action in a big way with the Earth Day 125 for the Super Late Models, race number two of the Auburndale Super-8 Series. Also racing will be the Legend Cars, V-8 Bombers, Q Mini Stocks and the Mini Cup Cars.

It will also be the The Results Companies Race-4-Rewards High School Battle Night #2 pitting students from Kathleen, Lake Gibson and Lake Region high schools to see who can bring in the most guests to raise funds for their schools. Students from the three schools will be admitted free of charge just by showing their school ID card. !

Joe Boyd of Riverview picked up the first round win of the Super-8 Series back on March 10th and is expected back to try for a second consecutive victory.
Local drivers Brandon Duchscherer and Josh Todd debuted new machines in that race and found themselves on the podium behind Boyd. Both should be top contenders once again. Lakeland’s Becca Monopoli, fresh off her first career Super Late Model win last week at Showtime Speedway, will be in the field along with “Little Gator” Noah Cornman, Cody Martell, Brian Dorrer, Chris Fontaine and several more.

Pit gates open at 1:30 pm with Super Late Model practice slated from 4-5 pm.
Other divisions will practice from 5-6 pm. Grandstand gates open at 5 pm and qualifying for the Super Late Models is slated for 6:15 pm. Racing begins at 7 pm with 8-lap heat races for the Mini Cups, Q Mini Stocks, Legend Cars and V-8 Bombers. Intermission will feature an autograph session on the front stretch with the Super Late Model drivers just before they go racing in the Earth Day 125 that will be the first feature of the evening. Up next will be a 20-lap run for the Mini Cup cars while the evening finishes up with 25-lap contests for the Q Mini Stocks, Legend Cars and V-8 Bombers.

Adult admission for all this evening of great racing action is just $15 with seniors 55+ $13. Children ages 5-12 are only $5 and all kids 4 and under get in free. The family 4-pack is just $32 for two adult and two children’s admissions (a $40 value). Pit passes are $30 per person and all parking is free.

CARS Tour “Mid Atlantic Classic” to Utilize Controlled Cautions and Segments in $10,000 to Win Super Late Model Race

Mooresville, NC 4/10/18 – A growing staple event of the CARS Response Energy Super Late Model Tour, the Puryear Tank Lines/Thrifty Tire Centers “Mid Atlantic Classic” presented by TheGrillingStore.com, will see a small tweak in the format for the $10,000 to win Super Late Model race at Orange County Speedway on April 21^st. Controlled cautions will be utilized for the eight tire race with segments of 30, 60, 40, and 20 laps making up the 150 lap race distance.

Similar to the inaugural event, each segment winner will receive a $500 cash bonus. If the segment winners are on the lead lap at the end of the third segment they will be guaranteed a top eight starting position in the final 20 lap segment that decides who will take home the $10,000 top prize.

“This past month we spoke with several teams, drivers, and spotters and received great feedback on races with the controlled caution format. We were told that with races that use multiple tires the controlled caution provides the best format for teams to utilize options for strategy,” explained CARS Tour Series Director Chris Ragle. “The segments, along with the stages, are a perfect mix that will keep the race flowing and avoid the start and stops of the stage breaks we utilized before. Based on feedback, we believe this format will add strategy and create comers and goers in the field which makes for a great show.”

Last July, Cole Rouse and Bubba Pollard picked up segment wins early but it was Steven Wallace who muscled his way to the front in the final few laps to win the inaugural event. With the event moving to an earlier point in the season, on April 21^st, a strong contingent of cars is expected to be in attendance. In addition to defending champion Wallace, Super Late Model names like Stephen Nasse, Tate Fogleman, Jared Fryar, Bubba Pollard, and short track ace turned NASCAR Cup Series regular Corey LaJoie are just a few of the names expected to be at OCS in hopes of drinking the juice in Edelbrock Victory Lane.

In addition to the Super Late Models, the fan favorite Late Model Stock cars will see several drivers from the North Carolina Piedmont hitting the high banks of the 3/8^th mile track. Touring 12 drivers Ronald “The Thrill” Hill, Craig Moore, Brandon Pierce, and Justin Johnson all call Orange County their home track on the tour. Outside of the Touring 12 fans can expect to see the Late Model Stock Tour’s most recent winner, Lee Pulliam at the 3/8^th mile track, as well as several local drivers such as Christopher Denny, Terry Dease and defending race winner from a season ago, Deac McCaskill.

Fans are encouraged to take advantage of a big discount by ordering their tickets online in advance at carsracingtour.com. Tickets for the event will be $17 in advance and $25 at the gate. CONTROLLED CAUTIONS EXPLAINED: All cautions that are not quickie yellows will see the pits open for competitors for a period of four laps at pace car speed. These laps will not count toward the total race distance. Competitors will hold their place in line until deciding at a commitment cone, located at the pit entrance, to make the decision to pit under that caution period. Teams can change 0-4 tires each controlled caution, during the four lap period. Any team working past the four lap time period will start in the rear of the field. Competitors that pitted will be positioned behind those cars who did not pit, based on their previous running order when the caution was displayed, regardless of the number of tires changed or adjustments made. Positions can not be lost or gained on pit road, unless due to a competitor penalty. Each segment break will be a controlled caution no matter what, and will occur exactly on the specified segment ending lap. No controlled cautions will occur inside the final 20 lap segment.
