TYLER MILLWOOD SCORES “JACK STARRETTE MEMORIAL” VICTORY AT MODOC

ODOC, SC – The Ultimate Super Late Model Series Southeast Region rolled into the 4/10 mile oval known as Modoc Raceway located in Modoc, South Carolina Saturday for the Annual “Jack Starrette Memorial” event worth $5,022. The event was co sanctioned with the Carolina Clash.

It was an action packed event to say the least. Ultimate Southeast 2018 current points leader and defending Series Champion Tyler Millwood of Kingston, Georgia battled through traffic and held off challenges from Ross Bailes in the closing laps to led flag to flag in Saturdays “Jack Starrette Memorial” event to earn his first career Ultimate Super Late Model Series and Carolina Clash victory. Ross Bailes, John Henderson, Cla Knight, and Joey Coulter rounded out the top five finishers. Michael Page set fast time in qualifying with a time of 16.810 seconds. Heat race winners included Anthony Sanders and Brent Dixon.

The Ultimate Super Late Model Series Southeast Region will be back in action again on Saturday May 5th as the Series will travel to Laurens, South Carolina to Laurens County Speedway for the 2nd Annual “Ronnie Brookshire Memorial” event paying $4,014 to win.

Scott Grabs Win at Swainsboro Raceway

Saturday night racing action at Swainsboro Raceway brought 104 cars to the track for some sheet metal scrubbing racing action. In the Sunoco Super Street division, Monk Gulledge and Tommy Clinard both picked up heat race wins. At the green, Gulledge took the lead with Clinard second. Brent Herndon moved inside Rye Faulk for the third position. Lap 3, Herndon took to the inside of Clinard for the second position but Clinard shut the door. Dusty Collins moved by Faulk for fourth. Lap 5, Clinard slipped high off turn 4 and Herndon took over second. Lap 6, Luke Scott and Collins make contact for the fourth position allowing Scott to take control. Five to go, Scott passes Clinard for third. After a restart from caution, Michael Slater takes over fifth from Collins. Monk Gulledge leads flag to flag taking the checkered, Brent Herndon earns second, Luke Scott third, Michael Slater fourth, and Tommy Clinard fifth.

Sixteen drivers took the green in the Southland Insurance 602 Late Model division with Tyler Mimbs and Tyler Sanders leading the field to green. After going to a single file restart, Tyler Mimbs leads the field for lap one. Lap 5, Cody Overton takes over fifth from Brandon Carpenter. Two to go, Overton and Austin Scarboro battle side by side to the finish for fourth. Tyler Mimbs dominates earning his first win for the season, Tyler Sanders second, Terry Lumley third, Cody Overton held on to fourth, and Austin Scarboro fifth.

In the Daniels Chevrolet Pure Stock division, Luke Scott took the lead off turn four over George Williamson. Lap 2, Brent Herndon passed Tommy Hadden on the inside for fourth. Lap 3, Williamson hot on the rear of Scott off four and gives him a bump in one. Lap 5, Herndon gets inside Kip Poole for third. Halfway, Herndon on a mission gets by Williamson for second. Two to go, Williamson all on the rear of Herndon for second. Luke Scott takes the checkered, side by side at the flag, George Williamson regains second, Brent Herndon third, Kip Poole fourth, and Jimmy Haynes fifth.

Competing for $1000 to win in the Scare House of the South 440 division, 20 cars took the green. Andrew Smith took the lead over Rod Morris off turn two. Lap 3, in a battle for second Rod Morris and Reid Christensen get together off turn two. Morris was forced to pit for the night and Christensen restarted at the rear of the field. John Hooks moved up to second and Tyler Davis third. Lap 4, Cody Atkinson passed Tommy Davis on the inside for fourth. Lap 5, Tommy Davis off the pace with mechanical issues. Lap 8, Christensen already back to the fifth position from the rear. Cody Atkinson pitted losing the fourth position and John Bratcher pitted giving up fifth. Lap 11, Christensen moved into third. Andrew Smith celebrates in victory lane, Reid Christensen takes second on the last lap, Tyler Davis third, James Rogers fourth, and Richard Lastinger fifth.

In the Sharp Mini Late Model division, Brad Amerson takes the lead as Tim Gerdmann gets loose off two. Lap 3, Rene Chamser brings out the caution in turn three running second. Coming from the rear, Gerdmann moves inside Matt Wise for fifth. Halfway, Richard Johnson closes in on Amerson in turn two. Five to go, Matt Harden takes over fourth. Two to go, Johnson and Amerson make contact as Johnson takes the lead. Richard Johnson wins, Brad Amerson second, Thomas Cooler third, Matt Harden fourth, and Tim Gerdmann fifth.

Setting the fastest qualifying time of 15.375 seconds in the Zaxby’s Crate Late Model division, Corey Dunn held the pole with Shannon Graham outside. Sixteen cars take the green, Dunn and Graham side by side off turn two, Dunn takes the lead. Lap two, Graham gets loose off turn three bringing out the caution running in the second position. Dunn leads and Pearson Lee Williams moves into the second position. Chesley Dixon tries Williams for second off turn four but Williams maintains the position. Corey Dunn earns his first win at Swainsboro Raceway, Pearson Lee Williams takes second, Chesley Dixon third, Cody Overton fourth, and Caleb Gay finishes out the top five.

Ending the night in the Roger Wheeler Construction Road Warrior division, Ridge McCoy takes the lead off turn two over Jaime Foskey. Starting in the fourth position, Justin Williams loses a tire forcing him to pit for the night. Lap 4, Graham Stevenson passes Foskey for second. Ridge McCoy holds off Graham Stevenson to earn his first win at Swainsboro Raceway. Finishing out the top five Jaime Foskey in third, Kip Poole fourth, and Kay Alexander fifth.

Strong Field Invades the Buckeye State to Kick off 24th Season of Sunoco American Late Model Series

ROSSBURG, OH — Apr. 28, 2018 — The Sunoco American Late Model Series kicked off its 24^th season of racing on the biggest stage in all of dirt track racing. The famed ½ (0.500)-mile high-banked dirt oval of Eldora Speedway (OH), located just east of the Indiana/Ohio state line in Rossburg, OH was the site for the 2018 season opener, the $5,000-to-win Late Model LidLifter. This event was the first of four appearances of the season at Eldora and 88^th all-time event at the Buckeye State oval, the most of any track in the 23-year history of the series.

When the checkered flag flew, Nick Hoffman was the surprised winner in Victory Lane after flagged winner Jason Jameson crossed the scales light by just four pounds. “I wasn’t expecting that at all. I was happy to finish second after the great battle him and I had,“ explained the soon to be 26-year-old (on May 1^st) after climbing from his #2 Propane Direct / Rocket XR1 machine. “It was a battle to start 10^th in this field and work our way up to have a chance to win this. I hate to win that way, but we did have a helluva hot rod tonight,” added the Belleville, IL driver who now calls Mooresville, NC home.

The 407^th all-time event in series history would see three-time DIRTcar Modified National Champion Devin Gilpin and Jameson lead the field to the green flag for the 25-lap feature. Gilpin would beat Jameson to the first corner to grab the early lead while the rest of the pack jockeyed for position behind them. After a caution on lap nine, the restart would see Jameson shoot out ahead of Gilpin to take over the top spot and try to pull away from the rest of the field.

At the halfway mark, Hoffman, who started 10^th, had worked his way up to fourth and with 10 laps to go, disposed of 1997 Dirt Late Model Dream winner, Jimmy Mars and then Gilpin to take over second with six laps to go. He set his sights on Jameson and the battle was on for the lead. Hoffman tried high and low to get past Jameson, but it wasn’t enough as Jameson would see the checkered flag first, only to lose the victory by being light at the scales by just four pounds.

Gilpin would take second in the final rundown with Mars completing the podium finishers in third. 19-year-old Kody Evans scored an impressive fourth showing ahead of three-time and defending series champion, Jon Henry, who would finish off the top five. Two-time and defending DIRTcar Super Late Model National Champion, Rusty Schlenk finished sixth as Dustin Nobbe, defending track champion, Kent Robinson, five-time track champion, Matt Miller and Rob Anderzack were the final top 10. Earlier in the afternoon, Jameson picked up the Fast Qualifier honors over the 24-car field with a 15.510 = 116.054mph and he also won his Heat Race. Devin Gilpin and Kody Evans also scored Heat Race victories.

Eldora Speedway will host the Sunoco American Late Model Series three more times in 2018 starting with the traditional Memorial Day Holiday Weekend event, the 48^th running of the Johnny Appleseed Classic on Sunday, May 27^th. This race is the final opportunity for teams to get all important track time in preparation for the 24^th running of the Dirt Late Model Dream on June 7-9^th. The traditional Labor Day Holiday Weekend event, the 11^th annual Earl Baltes Classic is on Sunday, September 2^nd. The Baltes Classic is the last chance for teams to tune up for the 48^th annual World 100 the following week on September 6-7-8^th. The final appearance of the season is also the final race of the year for the series on Saturday, October 13^th as part of the tracks Last Call For Them All weekend.

The Sunoco American Late Model Series will head west for the next two shows and both races will be co-sanctioned with the MARS Super Late Model Series. On Friday, May 10^th, Farmer City Raceway (IL) will host the 2^nd annual Farmer City 74 which will pay $10,000 to the winner. Then the next night, Saturday, May 11^th, the teams venture just 40 miles south to Fairbury American Legion Speedway (IL) for the 4^th annual #FALS Frenzy, which also pays a cool $10,000 to win.

L.J. GRIMM TOPS MODIFIEDS

It was quite a night of racing Saturday at Auburndale Speedway as eight classes ran features with the action producing two first-time winners. A fine crowd was on hand under perfect weather conditions.

The night began with a bit of irony. Earlier in the afternoon it was announced that former NASCAR/ARCA star James Hylton had lost his life in a highway crash while returning home from Friday’s ARCA event at Talladega Superspeedway. For many veterans at the speedway it was a sad day for sure as many of us had followed Hylton’s long career.

Of all the cars in the pit area, there was only one carrying the number 48, Hylton’s number throughout most of his career. That car was the Mini Cup machine driven on the night by young Brey Holmes who really had never heard of Hylton. The Mini Cup feature was first up on the night and it was Holmes who zipped past Clay Samuels with two laps to go to put the #48 in victory lanes as the first winner of the evening. Samtuels held on for second. Bill Rychel, who spun out of the lead on the second lap, came back to finish in third spot ahead of Russell Bush, Easton Bush, Bryton Horner and Douglas Herrin, Jr. Herrin was going for his fourth consecutive win but suffered mechanical issues during the caution flag for Rychel’s spin on lap two and was forced pit side.

The big race of the night would be for the Pro Trucks and they were out in force with 22 teams signing in to compete in the 50-lapper. Qualifying was held under bright sunshine and warm temperatures and the drivers struggled getting a handle on the slick race track. Jason Lester of Palmetto was easily the fastest as he clicked off a lap of 14.505 seconds, quite a bit quicker than the 14.565 lap turned in by Bartow’s Cody McDuffie who was seeking his third Pro Truck win in a row. 17-year-old Derek Pugh of West Palm Beach was third quick at 14.596 followed by Becca Monopoli, Leroy Moore and Big Donnie Burkhalter. Those six would then be the inversion for the start of the half-century run.

Burkhalter sped to the lead at the drop of the green only to have the start called back for a William Kerns spin. Burkhalter again took the measure of the field as the race got under way. Fifth-starting McDuffie quickly worked his way to third spot right behind Monopoli. Seventh-starter Danny Anderson charged up to fourth just before Jabob Nicoletti spun on the front stretch to bring out the first yellow flag on lap five.

Burkhalter continued to hold the top spot while McDuffie slipped by Monopoli for second two laps after the restart and set sail after the leader.

Nicoletti looed his truck again on lap 11 for another caution. Leroy Moore, running fifth at the time, headed for the pits and did not return.

The restart saw the beginning of a great battle between Burkhalter and McDuffie that was quickly interrupted as Kerns spun in turn four for another yellow. Sixth-running Mike Kohut pitted for adjustments and returned before the restart. Again the two front runners rsumed their side-by-side battle before the caution came out a fourth time for a big scramble among trucks running at the back of the field that saw Billy Carlbert, Jr. get turned around.

McDuffie got the run he needed on the restart and he passed Burkhalter for the lead. Meanwhile, fast qualifier Jason Lester, who had been biding his time, got by Anderson for fourth bringing Pugh with him. Pugh had fallen back as far as eighth after starting fourth. McDuffie began to pull away only to see yet another caution, this time for a back stretch tangle between Jeff Williams and Cody Krucker on lap 25.

Two laps after the restart, Pugh ducked under Lester to take fourth spot. The field continued under green until lap 37 when Williams spun off turn four.

Burkhalter tried hard to pass McDuffie on the restart but had to settle back into second in front of Monopoli as the lead trio sped away until Colt Cecil spun in turn two during the 43rd lap and was hit by Carlbert’s truck. Cecil was done for the night while Carlbert continued.

McDuffie’s truck seemed to stumble on the restart and Burkhalter took advantage grabbing the lead away although McDuffie was right back on his tail gate. Pugh had just ake third from Monopoli when Mini Cup winner Brey Holmes spun in turn two. Burkhalter held sawy on the restart and was looking good only to see a final yellow flag on lap 47as Kohut’s truck slowed suddenly with what appeared to be an overheating issue with Holmes spinning to miss him.

The final restart was a dandy. Burkhalter slid up the track in turn two just enough to let McDuffie get beside his rear fender. But Pugh saw an opening and dove under both of them, taking the lead. Ever the opportunist, Lester followed Pugh right on by to take second. Burkhalter managed to recover in third while McDuffie was hung out to dry.

Pugh crossed the stripe to score his first-ever Pro Truck victory while Lester and Burkhalter trailed closely. Cody Blair came out of nowhere to claim fourth while a disappointed McDuffie held on for fifth. Monopoli faded to sixth ahead of Anderson with eighth through tenth positions going to Carlbert, Krucker and Holmes. Twelve of the 22 starters were still running at the finish with Tyler Davis and Kristen Clements the last two trucks still in competition. Rounding out the finishers (all DNF’s) were Kohut, Cecil, Carter Brown, Williams, Mick Lizzano, Brennon Pletcher, Nicoletti, Kerns, Marc Kemick and Moore.

A somewhat bewildered Pugh was as happy as could be in victory lane and thanked his mom and dad along with crew chief Bobby Shelton and set-up man Mike Toemmes who unfortunately was not on hand due to ongoing medical issues.

Lester was very happy with his unexpected second place run but even happier that he set fast time for the first time in his career earlier in the evening.

Burkhalter said he “gave this one away” in the closing laps but was still happy with his truck. “I really think we’ve got something for the the rest of the year,” he said.

The Open Wheel Modifieds were scheduled to run a big 75-lap contest but when only seven cars showed up, the drivers and track officials agreed to cut the race to 40 laps with only a small cut in the purse.

Herb Neumann grabbed the early lead but gave way to L. J. Grimm on lap four.

Only two minor cautions late in the race slowed the event as Grimm sped away to a comfortable victory. Neumann looked like a sure second until falling out during the final caution flag period on lap 35. At that point Matt McCrary picked up the second spot and held it to the checker ahead of a tight battle with Shawn Harper and Ricky Coffin who claimed third and fourth. Norman Dismuke debuted his new machine in fifth ahead of Neumann and Marilyn McCrary.

The 30-lap Legend Car feature saw a number of caution periods and a familiar face back in victory lane. Greg Welage of Cincinnati, OH, who also has a home in Punta Gorda, returned to action along with his son Jason and led the opening two laps before Seth Adams came storming by. From that point it was Adams all the way despite having his pace slowed by the numerous yellow flags that were all for just minor incidents. The fans were entertained by the constant position-swapping going on behind Adams, though.

Jim Smith eventually made his way to second and added to his current point lead in the class. Las Vegas, NV visitor Michael Anderson had a good run for third in his first visit to Auburndale Speedway. Young Brandon Taylor scored a nice fourth place finish in just his second race in the class while 13-year-old lady driver Jade Hubert was fifth. Jason Welage was sixth followed by Bob Wilson, Cale Nolen, Blake Boyette, Gavin Sexton, Greg Welage, Mitch Verhaagh and Alan Hiefnar.

Another good field of Modified Mini Stocks were on hand and put on quite a show. The initial start was called back for a three car tangle in turn one but all cars continued. Tim Scalise snared the early lead but Fred Harrison was quickly on the move. Harrison started deep in the pack but was already up to third place by the conclusion of lap three then took second two laps later with Chris Spring right behind him.

Harrison caught and passed Scalise for the top spot on lap 11 with Spring following suit four laps later. The 30-lap run was halted on lap 17 as jimmy Frazier blew the engine in his car oiling down the track through the first and second turns. Fortunately all cars made it through despite a little “slipping and sliding.” Just after the restart the final caution appeared as Chris Falkner and Scott Bumgardner spun in unison in turn two.

Although Spring closed to his bumper several times, Harrison held on for the win, his first here in quite some time as he has just returned to racing at Auburndale after around a three year hiatus. Spring was a close second while Scalise scored his first career podium finish. It was this first time ever that Dodge-powered cars finished 1-2-3 in a Mod Mini feature here. Fourth and fifth went to Clint Holmes and Matt Cummins who had a nice run in a new car after showing up late. Rachelle Rudolph came home sixth trailed by Falkner, Dave Barnett, Bumgardner, Frazier, Mike Kerrivan, Dave Davis and T. J. Tanner.

Despite having to run his car in third gear after a late race restart, James Wright III held sway to score another V-8 Bomber win and add to his point lead. Wright took the lead from David Purvis on lap five and sped to the win despite two cautions and his tranny problem. Danny Burchfield was third followed by Ronnie Abney, Jammie “Wild Child” Dunnahoe, Jr., Jamie Castleberry and Purvis.

Put yet another win sticker on the windshield of Chris Narrmore’s Q Mini Stock as he claimed his fourth win of the year in the class. Freddy Martin grabbed the early lead but saw Chris Narramore, Jr, move out front on lap 12. The senior Narramore was not to be denied this week, though, as he passed his son on lap 20 and drove to a comfortable win as this was the only race all night to run green to checker. Narramore, Jr, was second with Bruce Cozad in his “usual” third spot. Martin came home fourth ahead of Duker Holley, T. J.

Tanner, David McCaig and Ashley Eldridge.

Travis Todd led all the way to claim his first-ever win at Auburndale in taking the Scrambler feature. Although his teammate Danny Burchfield brought out the red flag blowing an engine mid-race, Todd streaked to a fairly comfortable win over Chuckie Harrison and his dad Chuck Harrison. All three were driving Saturns. Wayne Dunnavent, Jr. was fourth in his first race here trailed by Burchfield, Serena Young, Trevor Appling and Joe Mezenbach (all DNF’s)

PIERCE GOES BACK TO BACK IN ILLINOIS

MACON, IL (April 28, 2018) – Going back-to-back with the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series, Bobby Pierce fought his way to victory at Macon Speedway on Saturday night. Pierce held off a fiercely challenging Ryan Unzicker to win the St. Louis U-Pic-A-Part 100.

Unzicker briefly took the lead coming off of turn number four on lap 93, but Pierce battled back regaining the top spot a lap later. Pierce held off a furious charge from Unzicker on the final lap to score the win. Shannon Babb took third, as the home state drivers swept the top three finishers. Jonathan Davenport came home in third just ahead of Josh Richards, last year’s event winner.

In Lucas Oil Victory lane for the seventh time in his career, Pierce commented on his win. “Heading into the weekend I didn’t think I would win two races. If I did win one I thought it might be here. I got a little nervous there in traffic and then I hit the wall coming out of turn four. I think Big C was looking down on me after that. Man, I am glad to be back home. We go to so many tracks this year that I have never been to before. You have got to have laps at these tracks and fortunately the last two nights that was the case. There is nothing that compares to this track. Just glad to get these wins, thanks to all my crew, family and sponsors,” said the 21-year-old before an appreciative crowd.

Unzicker thrilled the crowd with his daring moves throughout the race. “I couldn’t beat him [Pierce] in a Pierce car and now I can’t in the Rocket he’s driving. He [Pierce] is a tough competitor. Glad to see him back here. He has a nice team there. We have been busting our tails in the garage and it paid off here tonight. This is one of my favorite tracks to run on. I feel like our programs been pretty good and the finish tonight just proves it.”

Babb was in the hunt the entire distance as he came home in third. “I felt like we had a pretty good car. I was just biding my time there. I just let the laps go by. Ryan was good on the restarts. We got into traffic and he [Unzicker] got by me. It was a really good race and to run good here it’s always nice to come home again.”

Shane Pecore Takes DIRTCAR Northeast Sportsman Modified Central Division Season Opener

FULTON NY – April 27 2018 – Finally, DIRTcar Sportsman Modifieds all across New York thawed out, loaded up, and made the tow to Fulton Speedway. It took 50 laps to decide the first Sportsman Modified Central Region series race of 2018 and it was worth the long winter break. After trading the lead several times, Shane Pecore in the no. 0 took the lead on lap 23 and never looked back. Despite multiple cautions and restarts, Pecore managed to stay ahead hard charges by Matt Janczuk and Kevin Root.

Shane Pecore slammed the checkered flag on the roof in unbridled celebration and then showed his appreciation to his right rear tire. Pecore told the crowd, “After last year we had an issue and had a lot of doubters. We worked out tails off over winter. We put tons of hours into this thing. I can’t thank my Dad and fiancé enough for letting me do this. It’s pretty special tonight. It puts tears in my eyes after the struggles we had last year.”

Pecore started 6th and made the pass into the lead on lap 9. He pulled away but that wasn’t the end of it. “The top is pretty choppy, but it was fast early. I saw Kevin Root get by on the bottom. I thought maybe that was the race there, but the car felt really good no matter where I put it on the track. Hats off to the track crew after getting two straight days of rain.”

Frustrated second place finisher Matt Janczuk noted, “I love this place. It’s a great challenge.’ Unfortunately Janczuk wasn’t able to threaten Pecore at the end of the race. “Every time I got going in a groove, a caution would come out. It was killing me.” Fulton Speedway Regular Jessica Power thrilled the crowd with a top 5 finish. Powers was knocking on the door of a podium but ran out of laps to make the pass. Dave Marcuccilli passed half the field to make his run, but a broken right front shock took him out of contention late in the race.

The next DIRTcar Sportsman Modified Central Region points race is on June 17 at Utica-Rome Speedway. We’ll see you there!

PIERCE SCORES EMOTIONAL TRI-CITY TRIUMPH

GRANITE CITY, IL (April 27, 2018) – Bobby Pierce scored his first Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series win of the season on Friday night at Tri-City Speedway. The 21-year-old returned to his home state for the first time this season and led all 50 laps on his way to win the RockAuto.com Busch 50 – presented by Campbell University. Pierce withstood a late-race challenge from Tim McCreadie to become the eighth different winner on the tour in 2018. McCreadie finished in second, followed by Jimmy Owens, Kyle Bronson, and Brian Shirley.

Pierce’s win came just one week after the Dunn Benson Motorsports patriarch and car owner, Carlton Lamm passed away. Joined by his team and family, an emotional victory lane took place after claiming his sixth career LOLMDS win.

After tonight’s win, Pierce moves to sixth in the championship standings on his first full-year on the LOLMDS tour. “When you race on the Lucas Oil Series, these guys are the best there is. I really wanted to get that win for Big C. I know he’s up there watching. Just a big thanks to everyone, especially my crew they have worked so hard. It’s been a week to 10 days. Thanks for my sponsors for sticking with me, and thanks to all the fans for coming out tonight.”

Pierce dominated most of the race, which saw only one caution flag in the early stages. Over the last half of the race, Pierce battle fiercely with lapped traffic, which allowed several drivers to close the gap on him. Bronson took a shot at the top groove but lost two spots as McCreadie and Owens moved by him. McCreadie then closed in on Pierce, but could not get by as Pierce held his groove on the bottom of the track. McCreadie had one last chance heading to the checkered flag as Pierce drifted up ever so slightly coming off of turn four, but Pierce had enough momentum to take the win.

“It seems like that was the longest race I have ever run,” said the winner afterwards. “I kind of wanted a caution towards the end to clear out the track. I didn’t think anyone would have a chance to pass me on the outside. My experience here at this track was crucial; sometimes it all comes down to qualifying. That’s where a lot of races are won or lost. After hot laps I was a little bit worried. I went out there and qualified by setting fast time. Starting up front was better than starting in the second row.”

McCreadie’s Sweeteners Plus, Longhorn recorded its best series finish of the year as he continues to make gains in the championship point standings. “We have had a really good car lately. I tried to make the cushion work early on, but it was going away quickly. I wish I had gotten to second about ten laps earlier, and then I think I would have had a better shot at him [Pierce].”

Jimmy Owens’ Ramirez Motorsports, E3 Spark Plugs, Rocket took a podium finish coming home in third place. “Our car wouldn’t fire early on, but after that one caution it seemed to go a lot better. We got up to third and pretty much rode it out from there. We had some tough luck last weekend, but it feels good to get a good finish tonight,” said the three-time series champion.

Schott Puts Enid Speedway in USMTS Win Column

ENID, Okla. (April 29)–Lucas Schott sailed into USMTS victory lane on a windy Sunday at the Enid Speedway, leading all 35 laps of the main event to notch his second win of the weekend and seventh of his career.

From the pole, Schott remained in command despite early pressure from Johnny Scott and a late-race charge from Ryan Gustin, who narrowed the gap between himself and the leader from ten to two car-lengths over the final five laps.

Although Schott walked away with the $2,825 winner’s share of the prize money, it was a return to form for ‘The Reaper’ as he has endured mechanical woes during the early parts of the 2018 campaign.

Dereck Ramirez came on strong at the end as well, stealing fourth away from Scott in the final stages of the contest while Saturday’s winner, Rodney Sanders, came from the 13th starting spot to claim fifth.

USMTS Hunt for the Casey’s Cup points leader Jake O’Neil was sixth, Stormy Scott wound up seventh, Zack VanderBeek earned an eighth-place paycheck, Tyler Wolff nabbed ninth and Chad Wheeler rounded out the top ten.

The tireless USMTS titans are back at it next week, May 4-6, for another blockbuster tripleheader that begins on Friday at the I-30 Speedway in Little Rock, Ark., and then moves to the Tri-State Speedway in Pocola, Okla., on Saturday before making their first-ever trip to the Creek County Speedway in Kellyville, Okla., on Sunday.

EIGHT CLASSES ON TAP SATURDAY NIGHT AT AUBURNDALE SPEEDWAY INCLUDING MODIFIEDS AND PRO TRUCKS

Auburndale Speedway continues the 2018 racing season in a big way this Saturday night as a total of eight racing division will see action including the first race of the Auburndale Triple Crown for the Open Wheel Modifieds that will go 75 laps in distance. The Pro Trucks return for a 50-lap event dubbed the “Tailgater 50.” Also in action will be the Modified Mini Stocks, Legend Cars, V-8 Bombers, Q Mini Stocks, Scramblers and Mini Cup cars. The evening of racing is presented by The Results Companies. Headquartered in Ft.

Lauderdale, the local office for The Results Companies is located just a stone’s throw from the race track on Recker Highway. They provide quality home-style call centers that bring an incredible service to businesses both large and small along with providing much needed jobs to the local community.

Among the Pro Truck drivers expected are Cody McDuffie of Bartow, winner of the first two Pro Truck races of the season at Auburndale Speedway, who will be going for the “hat trick” this week. Jason Lester of Palmetto, fresh off a big win against a great field of Trucks last week at Citrus County Speedway, feels he “has something now” to knock McDuffie off his current perch. Big Donnie Burkhalter of Ocoee set a new track record last week in time trials at Citrus and will be contending for the win this week along with his BFE Racing teammates, the father/son duo of Todd and Nick Haag of Windermere. Derek Pugh of West Palm Beach has been strong of late and is chomping at the bit for his first win. Lakeland drivers Colt Cecil, Aaron Holmes and Tyler Davis will be in action along with a host of others including Billy Carlbert, Jr., Mike Kohut, Brennan Pletcher, Danny “Trumpy Doll” Anderson, William Kerns, Mark Kemick, Leroy Moore and Carter Brown. Lady drivers Becca Monopoli of Lakeland and Kristen Clements of Plant City will also be racing. Clements had a hard crash at Citrus County last week but her truck will be ready for Saturday’s show.

Around 20-22 Pro Trucks are expected.

After two races, McDuffie leads the point standings by four over Anderson.

Pugh is just ten markers out of first and just two points ahead of Lester.

Kohut is currently fifth in points.

The Open Wheel Modifieds will be led by L. J. Grimm of Seffner who has been running strong of late including a big win last week at Citrus County Speedway. Veteran Herb Neumann is expected to compete along with the likes of Brandon Baker, Billy Tokes, Rob Cooper, Bobby Blake and Ricky Coffin.

Point leaders in the other classes are as follows: Jim Smith (Legend Cars), James Wright III (V-8 Bombers), Fred Harrison (Modified Mini Stocks), Douglas Herrin, Jr. (Mini Cups), going for his fourth in a row this week, and Danny Burchfield (Scramblers). The closest race is in the Q Mini Stocks where Chris Narramore, Sr. holds a slim advantage over his son Chris, Jr. Both have three wins to their credit this year.

Pit gates open at 1:30 pm with Pro Truck practice only slated from 3-3:30 pm and Modified practice only from 3:30-4pm. All other classes will practice from 4-5:30 pm. Grandstand gates open at 5 pm and qualifying for the Pro Trucks and Modifieds set for 6:15 pm. Racing begins at 7 pm and will be features only this week starting with 20 laps for the Mini Cup cars followed by the 25-lap Scrambler feature. The 50-lap contest for the Pro Trucks is up next followed by a brief intermission. After intermission it’s 25 laps for the Q Mini Stocks followed by a trio of 30-lap races for the Modified Mini Stocks, Legend Cars and V-8 Bombers. The evening will be capped off by the 75-lap run for the Open Wheel Modifieds.

Adult admission for all this huge night racing action remains at just $15 with seniors 55+ $13. Children ages 5-12 are only $5 and all kids 4 and under get in free. The family 4-pack is just $32 for two adult and two children’s admissions (a $40 value). Pit passes are $30 per person and all parking is free.

LUCAS OIL LATE MODELS SET FOR ILLINOIS DOUBLEHEADER

BATAVIA, OH (April 24, 2018) – The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series will make their presence known in the “Land of Lincoln” this weekend, returning to Tri-City Speedway and Macon Speedway for a pair of $12,000-to-win events.

The weekend doubleheader to wrap up the month of April will kick off on Friday, April 27 at Tri-City Speedway in Granite City, IL, followed by an appearance at Macon Speedway in Macon, IL on Saturday, April 28. At both venues, the nation’s top dirt late model drivers are expected to challenge a strong field of local and regional standouts.

“Tri-City and Macon have a history of producing some of the most exciting events of the season,” said Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series Director, Rick Schwallie. “The level of competition this season has been second-to-none. The Midwest has some of the toughest competitors anywhere in the country. Fans are in store for a very exciting weekend of racing.”
