GREENWOOD, NEBR. (July 21, 2018) – Jonathan Davenport picked up his second-career, Imperial Tile Silver Dollar Nationals victory at I-80 Speedway on Saturday night.

Davenport passed Bobby Pierce for the lead on lap 77 after Pierce began to lose momentum due to mechanical problems under the hood. Pierce’s car ultimately stopped for good on lap 78. Davenport then sailed to the $53,000 victory at the Kosiski Family promoted facility. Ricky Weiss settled for second with Jimmy Owens surviving a three-wide battle on the final lap to finish in the third position. Hudson O’Neal and Earl Pearson Jr. rounded out the top five.

Davenport; who won the race in 2016; returned to the event after a year’s absence and picked up his eighth series win of the season after starting in 12th. “WOW, what a race car! Like I have said before, Jason Durham and Kevin Rumley have given me a great car. After we hot lapped I knew I had a good car. I was just biding my time for a while at the start of the race. I knew I had a shot to win it. We just rode and rode, waiting for the right moment which is probably the hardest thing to do in a race. To let all of those guys get that far out in front.”

“Ricky [Weiss] and Bobby [Pierce] did a heck of a job out there tonight. I didn’t want to go that fast early. I knew the top would be there. That is probably where the race was going to be won. I just wanted to have the best tire there at the end. I really hate it for him [Pierce]. I really do for him and the whole Dunn-Benson Team. Before I passed him, I had really started to pick the pace up.”

Weiss pocketed $20,000 for his second-place performance. “We were really good tonight. I started to roll through the middle and I thought heck I might be a little quicker. I have done this before and burnt the tires off and then the middle started to go away a little bit. When I got to Scott [Bloomquist] I was a little quicker than him, so I just rolled by him. I think the tow got knocked out of it a little bit. I saw Bobby [Pierce] starting to smoke and then Jimmy [Owens] went by me, so I thought we might have a shot to win. To finish second in the race against this type of competition is a big boost to our race team.”

Owens had a shot at second-place at the end of the 80-lap event but wound up in third. “We had a pretty decent car tonight. I just was riding around the back in the first part of the race. We just got up on the wheel and started running harder. We had a great car. We probably waited a little too long to get to the front,” said the driver of the Ramirez Motorsports, Rocket.

JACKSON, MINN. (July 18, 2018) – Scott Bloomquist led all 50 laps in the first-ever appearance by the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series at Jackson Motorplex.

The first Super Late Model event at the half-mile oval in 30 years did not disappoint. Jonathan Davenport and Josh Richards tracked down Bloomquist in the final laps of the race, but came up second and third, respectively. Bobby Pierce was in the hunt the entire race and came home in fourth. Brandon Sheppard recovered from a lap one collision to take the fifth spot.

The 54-year-old, three-time Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series National Champion went to Lucas Oil Victory Lane for the series-leading seventh time this season. “I don’t know what it is because we have no notes going into these first-time tracks. I told the crew when we pulled in that we were a lock for the win. We just came here to rock-and-roll and let her go. This is quite a beautiful facility. The track reminds me a lot of Knoxville. It has the berm on the bottom and you can race on this track. It holds moisture very well. We need to go to more tracks like this. I ran hard out there. I am ready now to head to Nebraska and try to take their $53,000 on Saturday night.”

Davenport maintains the point lead heading to Nebraska for three nights of racing. “We have gotten better every time we’ve gone out in the last couple of weeks, the crew has been working hard and we keep improving. That is all you can ask for. What a great facility they have here, they should be proud of it. We had a few gremlins there that raised their head early on. We were better in the long runs. I thought before that last caution I was going to have a shot at the win.”

Richards earned his second-straight podium finish and was complimentary of the race track and facility. “They have done a tremendous job here with this facility. The track raced great. The bottom was dominant for a while then the top came into it. On one of the restarts my carburetor stumbled there a little bit. We had a good hot-rod tonight. I was watching the water temperature close there at the end. I don’t know if Scott slowed up at the end, but me and Davenport really closed in on him. This is a beautiful place. I hope we get to come here more often.”

The winner’s 93rd career Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series victory came behind the wheel of his own Sweet-Bloomquist Chassis powered by an Andy Durham Racing Engine. MANSFIELD, OH (July 1, 2018) – Don O’Neal brought the Clint Bowyer Racing, Club 29 to Victory Lane for the first time this season in dominating fashion. The former Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series National Champion led all 50 laps of the Freedom 50 on Sunday night at Mansfield Motor Speedway.

O’Neal took the lead at the start of the race and never looked back, going unchallenged for his 44th career Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series win. It was his first Series win since the Pittsburgher 100 last October. Scott Bloomquist and Jimmy Owens battled for second for several laps with Bloomquist finally able to pull away from Owens in the last half of the race. Earl Pearson Jr. finished in fourth followed by Hudson O’Neal in fifth.

Starting on the outside front row, Don O’Neal was slowed by a handful of cautions. He closed out the race with an over four second margin of victory over Bloomquist. In the series championship points standings, O’Neal becomes the eighth driver in the top ten to earn a win in 2018.

“It seems like a long time since we have been in Victory Lane. My hat is off to the whole crew, they worked so hard getting us headed in the right direction. Anthony Burroughs [Crew Chief] and my team, they have never given up this season. They are making us better every week. My crew was signaling me so I knew I had a pretty good lead, but I didn’t know it was as much as it was.”

Bloomquist completed his second straight podium finish and was able to close the gap on points leader, Jonathan Davenport, who finished 12th. “He [O’Neal] was a little better tonight. We had some issues with our carburetor. Don was good and we couldn’t run with him. We will take this second place and head to the next race. Everything we learned tonight is geared toward the Dirt Million here in August.”

Owens took third in a competitive run as he and Bloomquist battled for second for several laps. “We had a good hot rod tonight, but tightened up the car a bit too much. Congrats to Don O’Neal and his crew for a great run tonight.”

PORTSMOUTH, OH (June 30th, 2018) Jason Jameson became the newest winner on the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series tour, claiming his biggest career victory on Saturday night at Portsmouth Raceway Park.

Jameson took the lead from Scott Bloomquist on lap 33 and then had to hold off the challenges from Josh Richards. A caution with ten laps to go turned into a two-car battle between Jameson and Richards with the Indiana driver crossing the line to cap off a very exciting race.

Jameson joined Magnolia Motor Speedway winner Hudson O’Neal as back-to-back first-time series winners. Richards finished in second with Scott Bloomquist in third. Rod Conley was fourth and Tim McCreadie took fifth.

Surrounded in victory lane by several well-wishers, an emotional Jameson thanked a multitude of people. “I can’t thank my crew enough, especially Tim, Jeff, and Tony and everybody who makes this happen. I don’t want to see this month end. I wish my car owner James [Rattliff] was here to see this. Scott [Bloomquist] drove the wheels off of that thing. It made me get up and drive a little harder.”

Jameson survived the next to last restart of the race as it appeared both Richards and Bloomquist were primed to take the win away. Richards briefly got the lead back, but Jameson fought to regain the top spot. “It was fun racing with those guys. They raced really hard and clean. You could throw a slider on them and they would return the favor without running over you. I felt a vibration near the end I think the motor was getting hot. I tried to run into the corner and keep my speed. I just about lost it in turn two with a few laps to go.”

Richards was looking for his third LOLMDS win of the year. It nearly came to fruition as he came home in second with the Best Performance Motorsports, COLT Firearms, Rocket Chassis. “It was a pretty crazy start there. Scott [Bloomquist] started off good and then we got it going up top. He [Jameson] did a great job tonight. Thanks to the fans for coming out and enduring this night. They saw a great show.”

“After about four or five laps the tires would get really hot. We had to back-pedal there for a little bit and then he [Jameson] started to pull away. This place is a lot of fun. I think it has been different every time we have been here. It was the first-time we had run the cushion for that long. We will come back later this year and give it another try.”

Bloomquist was in the thick of things for most of the race and took the third spot at the finish. “He [Jameson] was just a little bit better than us tonight. He could run the cushion. It was a little rough on us to run the top. We just had to move down to the bottom and see if we could get something working there. The top was just too dominant tonight.”
