Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series Unveils 2019 Schedule – Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series

 

BATAVIA, OHIO (October 29, 2018) – The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series is proud to announce the 2019 schedule, with a lineup featuring a record-breaking 65 feature events. The ambitious schedule is set to visit 37 different venues across 22 states, showcasing the talents of the nation’s top dirt late model drivers along the way.

The 2019 tour will launch with nine events during Georgia-Florida Speedweeks, including February 1st-2nd at Golden Isles Speedway; February 4th-9th at East Bay Raceway Park; and February 10th at Bubba Raceway Park. As is tradition, the 2019 championship battle will conclude October 18th-19th at the 39th Annual Dirt Track World Championship at Portsmouth Raceway Park.

Three tracks on the 2019 tour will host the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series for the first time, including: 411 Motor Speedway in Seymour, Tenn. on April 5th, Kokomo Speedway in Kokomo, Ind. on September 20th, and Raceway 7 in Monroe Center, Ohio on October 4th.

The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series will return to North Georgia Speedway in Chatsworth, Ga. for the first time since June 2009, on April 6th. 34 Raceway in Burlington, Iowa also returns to the Lucas Late Model Dirt Series slate, for the first time since May 2010, on May 16th. On May 17th, for the first time since May 2008, the tour will visit Farley Speedway in Farley, Iowa.

The 2019 campaign will be highlighted by a generous number of the industries richest events, including: Lucas Oil Speedway’s Show-Me 100 ($30,000 to win); I-80 Speedway’s Silver Dollar Nationals ($53,000); Florence Speedway’s North/South 100 ($50,000); Batesville Motor Speedway’s Topless 100 ($40,000); Mansfield Motor Speedway’s Dirt Million ($100,000+); Tyler County Speedway’s Hillbilly Hundred ($30,000); Knoxville Raceway’s Late Model Nationals ($40,000); Pittsburgh’s PA Motor Speedway’s Pittsburgher 100 ($20,000); and Portsmouth Raceway Park’s Dirt Track World Championship ($100,000).

“To be crowned Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series National Champion, the driver must be able to master a diversified race schedule that truly challenges the best of the best,” said Rick Schwallie, Series Director.

McDowell Captures Fourth Dixie Shootout

WOODSTOCK, GA (September 29, 2018) – Dale McDowell dominated the Lucas Oil Dixie Shootout on Saturday night at Dixie Speedway. The Georgia native set the Miller Welders overall fast time, won his heat, and led all 50-laps to score his fourth-career win in the annual event.

Jonathan Davenport finished second after making several charges at McDowell throughout the main event. Josh Richards finished in third after yielding second to Davenport on lap 18. Brandon Overton came across the finish line in fourth. Tim McCreadie notched his second-straight top five finish with his fifth-place run.

“It was a great night for us. We qualified well and started up front. Thanks to Shane [McDowell] and everybody with the team. They all worked extremely hard on this car and it paid off tonight. I was thinking of Mike [Swims] when I came around for the checkered flag. I felt like he was talking to me and saying good job buddy or something like that. Thanks to all of the Swims family, this place has remained such a solid piece of racing history for years and years. Thanks to all of you race fans, without you, we couldn’t do this.”

A caution with 25-laps completed helped McDowell as Davenport had cut the gap between the two. “I never thought I would see the day when clean air is so important in dirt track racing. When I got behind those guys I was trying to lap, it was dirty, messy air, and I couldn’t maneuver the car like I wanted to. When you are out front in those situations, you are just a sitting duck. Those guys behind you are going to go where you aren’t.”

“I figured JD [Davenport] was on the top side and Shane [McDowell] was giving me signals that he was closing. He looked really good in his heat, so I figured he was on the top side and Josh was in the middle. I had to get kind of greedy and those guys are tough week in and week out. It’s so special to win this race,” said the 52-year-old driver in Lucas Oil Victory Lane for the ninth time in his career. With his win, he becomes the 19th different winner on the tour in 2018.

“I really don’t know if I wanted to see that caution at lap 25,” said Davenport, who extended his series point lead with his runner-up finish. “We were pretty good in lapped traffic. We were quite maneuverable and that’s how we got by Josh. The track was cleaning up in a hurry. Congratulations to Dale, he had tough luck last night while leading at Tri-County. This might be the best I have ever raced here. I grew-up about an hour and a half from here. It was a great points night for us as well.”

Richards was happy with his podium finish. “We had a really good car tonight. I have to thank Clint Smith for giving me some pointers, he has a lot of experience racing here and it definitely helped me. We had a pretty good car for the feature. We just need to fine tune it a little bit. Towards the end I was just trying to ride and save the right rear tire.”

JOSH TODD OUT-RUNS SUPER LATE MODEL FIELD

STEVEN O’STEEN INHERITS STREET STOCK WIN AT AUBURNDALE SPEEDWAY

For the first time in recent memory Auburndale Speedway began its racing program Saturday evening with not a cloud in the sky and once the sun set it was a beautiful night for racing.  The pits were jammed with the largest car count of the year and the race teams performed in front of the biggest crowd of the season next to the Night of Destruction.

All in all it would be a late night for everyone.  Hot laps were delayed for nearly a half-hour when one of the Legend Cars soaked the track in fluid and that meant all qualifying would be delayed until just after 7 pm.  Five and a half hours later, the remaining fans (and there were quite a few who stuck out all the way to the end) headed to their cars just before 12:30 am although no one was complaining after the great action they witnessed.

The “Fall Fling” 125 for the Super Late Models, rained out two weeks previous, was added to the Faith and Family night program and 17 race teams were on hand to do battle.  Qualifying saw Steven King as the big surprise as the fourth generation racer tripped the clocks at 13.680 seconds topping the 16.720 lap turned in by Josh Todd who was just three-one-thousandths of a second quicker than Auburndale Super-8 Late Model Series point leader Chris Fontaine.  Matt McCrary and Jett Noland were fourth and fifth quick.

King’s pill draw luck wasn’t very good as he drew a ten to invert over half the field for the start and it would be just part of a very “eventful” evening for him that eventually would turn out OK.  When all was said and done, Kevin Macy, driving a team car to Todd’s, would start on the pole with veteran driver Charles Kopach starting second in his brand-new machine.

Macy zipped out to an early lead as Kopach got trapped on the high side and fell back.  Macy held the point until Steven King was sent spinning in turn four off the bumper of Cody Martell to bring out the caution on lap five.

Both drivers restarted at the tail of the field as Jamie King dropped out with problems early.

Roger Blevins was behind the wheel of veteran owner Rick Newton’s #01 machine and he showed his strength by taking over the top spot from Macy just after the green reappeared.  Blevins was looking good as the faster qualifiers were diligently working their way toward the front of the pack.  Brandon “Bones”

Duschscherer was hugging the inside line and slipped by Blevins for the lead on lap 16 bringing a high-flying Todd with him.  Lap 19 saw the second yellow flag of the race as Macy went for a wild spin off turn four courtesy of Matt McCrary.  Both took a trip to the rear of the restart line-up.

On the restart Ft. Pierce driver Jeff Johnston, make his first career Super Late Model start, spun going into turn one to keep the caution out.

Johnston’s dad, Chet Johnston, was a regular Late Model competitor for many years all over Central Florida.  Johnston had veteran driver Henry Shepherd as his crew chief as they were working the bugs out of both their new car and new driver.

Duchscherer was holding strong up front as the battle for second was a great one only to be slowed again as Macy spun again in turn four on lap 27.

Several cars took evasive action to miss the spinning car and Steven King was forced to pit to have a loose fender pulled from his racer.

On the restart, Blevins snuck back by Todd for second and brought Fontaine along with him.  Lap 36 saw the yellow back out again for a three car melee in turn four involving Noland, Kopach and Brian Dorer.  All continued but Joe Boyd, running fifth at the time, suddenly headed pit side for a check of his machine while Alexa Anderson’s car stalled and she need a push to the pits.

Both Boyd and Anderson were able to return to the fray, though.

Todd used the restart to charge back into second place and he began stalking leader Duchscherer.  Action was slowed again for a Noland spin in turn two.

Fast qualifier Steven King, despite all his problems, had now worked his way up to sixth for the restart.

Again things got crazy behind the leader as Blevins raced back into second bringing McCrary with him relegating Todd to fourth.

Lap 48 saw Johnston spin in turn three and the following restart was negated when Kopach looped his mount in turn two as well.  The restart was not a good one for Blevins as he slipped high and quickly found himself all the way back in sixth.  Todd zoomed by Fontaine for third spot as Duchscherer and McCrary ran one-two.

At the half-way mark it was Duchscherer leading McCrary, Todd, Fontaine, Noland, Blevins, Steven King, Dorer, David King and Alexa Anderson.  Ten laps later Johnston spun again in turn one and backed into the wall ending his night.  Also now out of the race were Boyd, Kopach and Kendall Anderson.

With 50 laps to go only ten cars were left on the track although all ten would eventually make it to the finish.  Todd slipped by McCrary for second on lap

77 as the field settled into some green flag racing.  The next caution would come out on lap 94 for Dorer’s spin on the back stretch.

Todd got by Duchscherer for the lead just after the restart and was just a nose in front when the caution was out again for a spinning David King in turn two.  The restart saw Fontaine go for a spin off the bumper of Steven King with both going to the back of the field for the restart.

At this point Todd began to check out slowed only by Alexa Anderson’s slow spin in turn one on lap 113.  Todd again pulled away on the restart and took the checker several car lengths ahead of Duchscherer with McCrary third.

Blevins ended his strong night with a great fourth place finish while Steven King rebounded from his crazy race to get fifth spot.  Noland took the sixth just in front of Fontaine with Dorer, Alexa Anderson and David King rounding out the top ten as the only cars running at the end.  Taking eleventh through 17th, all DNF’s, were Johnston, Kopach, Kendall Anderson, Boyd, Macy, Martell and Jamie King.

“I can’t say enough about my team and all the hard work they’ve put in to get us here,” said Todd.  “And to be here with my buddies Bones (Duchscherer) and Matt (McCrary) all on the front stretch after this race is really cool,” Todd continued.  McCrary seconded Todd’s thoughts.  “All three of us meet for lunch a few times a week and it’s just really neat to be up here after running 1-2-3” he said.  All three are local home-grown Auburndale Speedway drivers who basically grew up at the track and have worked their way up through several lower classes to earn their Super Late Model rides.

The other big race of the night was a 50-lap contest for the “Outlaw” Street Stocks running under the rules used by the former Sunshine State Challenge Series.  A bit of a disappointing field of eleven cars signed in but they were all quality machines and put on quite a show.

Cody Stickler, driving the Richie Smith #42 hot rod, set quick time at 14.744 seconds, over a tenth of a second faster than second and third place qualifiers Richard Elkins, Jr. and track Street Stock point leader Steven O’Steen.  The top six in time trials were inverted for the start with pole sitter Ross Francisco taking the early lead.  Francisco was looking very strong until his machine suddenly quit during the ninth lap and he slowed to a stop on the back stretch to bring out the yellow flag.

Danny Caylor inherited the lead and was setting a good pace with O’Steen moving into second just before Elkins went into a spin after tangling with Bobby Mobley.  Mobley dropped out after the altercation.  Stickler, who had taken a $200 challenge to start the race from the rear of the grid, slipped into second on the restart and began to put the pressure on Caylor, finally taking the point on lap 20.

From there the race ran all the way to the checker under green with O’Steen taking over second on lap 24.  O’Steen did his best to close on the fleet Stickler even slapping the wall a couple of times during his pursuit.  In the end Stickler was just too strong and he took the apparent win by a large margin over O’Steen.  However both Stickler and apparent third place finisher Kenny Gibson were disqualified in tech for illegal shocks.

That handed the win to O’Steen with Caylor ending up with second and Devin McLeod third.  Rounding out the finishers were Elkins, John Smith, Gilbert Corbin, Todd Brown, Mobley and Francisco.

The Legend Cars were out in force with 17 cars needing a pair of heat races to set the field for their 25-lap feature.  After the heat race wins were taken by Jim Smith and Seth Adams it was Smith taking the feature lead from his pole starting position.

This race would see a number of caution flags, one for a wild front stretch altercation that eliminated both of the Little Gator Motorsports cars driven by Jade Hubert and Noah Cornman.

Smith held sway until lap 18 when Adams got under him for the point and he never looked back from there in scoring his fourth win in a row here after getting a late start on the season.  A late scramble saw 15-year-old Jarrett Wagman come home with the second spot in just his sixth start in a Legend Car and second race at Auburndale.  Point leader Smith held on for third ahead of Devin McLeod who gave Bob Wilson’s car a great run to the front.  Fifth went to Taylor Hosford trailed by Alan Heifnar, Kyle Pitts, Christian Baker, Mitch Verhaagh and Dylan Brewer who was making his first-ever start here.  Rounding out the finishers were Brandon Hershey, Rusty Mallett, Jeremy Condrey, Cale Nolen, Cornman, Hubert and Chris Hamm.

Danny Burchfield led the first 16 laps of the V-8 Bomber feature before giving way to David Purvis who led until lap 22 before heat winner James Wright III took over the point.  But shortly thereafter Wright and Purvis tangled up and had to go to the rear of the restart grid.  That put Burchfield back in the lead and he drove his way to his first win of the season.

Purvis and Wright rebounded to finish second and third ahead of Jody Gill, Brian Harbin, Ronnie Abney, Jimmy McCloud and Travis Todd.

Keith Cantrill led all the way to win the Scrambler feature race, his second win of the year, holding off Chuckie Harrison and Fred Wilson.  David Williams took fourth trailed by Danny Burchfield, Jr., Reggie Ware II, Zach Ware, Brian Conger and heat winner Dennis Dean who dropped out early with engine trouble.

When Chris Narramore, Sr. had late engine woes, his son Chris Narramore, Jr.

caught and passed him for the lead and the victory, his eighth of the season.

The elder Narramore held on for second over Bruce Cozad and Freddy Martin.

David McCaig and Jason Sopczak were unable to start the feature.  Narramore, Sr. won the heat race.

Russell Bush grabbed the lead from Douglas Herrin, Jr, on lap 14 and went on to win his first Mini Cup feature of the year.  A late charge by Maria Martins gave her the second spot over Herrin, heat winner Brey Holmes, Wilson Martins, Easton Bush and Bill Rychel.

Brad Sweet Storms To $20,000 Placerville Payday

PLACERVILLE, Calif. – Brad Sweet cashed his own $20,000 check on Wednesday night at Placerville Speedway, passing Rico Abreu early and then holding off Sheldon Haudenschild on a green-white-checkered restart to win the 49er Gold Rush Classic presented by Riebes NAPA Auto Parts.

The event, promoted by Sweet himself, was postponed from March 21 due to rain and later renamed, with the winner’s purse being doubled and the feature being extended by nine laps in honor of the miners that discovered gold in California just 10 miles away from the quarter-mile dirt track.

Sweet never faltered, though. The reigning Knoxville Nationals champion powered past Abreu and then led the final 43 laps en route to his second crown jewel win of the season and the 32nd win of his World of Outlaws career.

Wednesday night’s event was extended from 49 laps to an even 50 due to the overtime finish, sparked by a multi-car crash in turns one and two after the leader had taken the white flag.

“I don’t know if that’s cool or not (to win your own race), but these guys work extra hard to give me a great race car. I know I’m putting on two caps by promoting the race, but my number one job is to come out here and get the job done,” said Sweet, who also won the preliminary night of the Gold Cup Race of Champions last weekend at Silver Dollar Speedway.

“I had a little extra incentive, with $20,000 on the line, and it’s nice to put the NAPA car in victory lane at the Riebes NAPA-sponsored event,” Sweet added. “That was a long 49 laps and it was tough in lapped traffic. The tricky part was picking my lines. I knew someone was back there, because I kept seeing a nose, but this is a hometown crowd, my friends and family are here … this is just great.”

Gold Cup champion Abreu and event promoter Brad Sweet led the 25-car field to the green flag from the front row, with Abreu eking out the early advantage and leading the first three laps before a caution flag waved for the spinning machine of Jason Sides on the bottom of the fourth corner.

When racing resumed, Abreu quickly reopened eight car lengths over Sweet, but the reigning Knoxville Nationals would not be denied and took command over the field when Abreu jumped the cushion and lost momentum on the eighth round in heavy traffic.

Abreu remained committed, however, and remained glued to Sweet’s back bumper despite the momentary misstep that cost him the top spot. He took a look to Sweet’s inside coming down the frontstretch at the end of lap 13, but couldn’t make the move stick and fell back into line before Brent Marks got upside down in turn two the next time around, forcing a red flag and stopping the action.

Marks was uninjured in the accident and walked away under his own power.

When racing resumed, Abreu could do nothing with Sweet, who rocketed away on the restart to a one-second advantage and stretched his legs in clean track. Sweet’s speed, combined with a fierce challenge for second by Cory Eliason, meant that by the lap 20 benchmark the margin was a second and a quarter.

Five laps later, as the field crossed the halfway point, the lead for Sweet was a second and a half over Abreu, Sheldon Haudenschild, Eliason and fast qualifier Andy Forsberg.

As Sweet continued to lead, Haudenschild began gaining on Abreu, making the move for second on lap 28 before Abreu crossed him over and retook the spot a lap later. That, however, let Sweet move the needle out to 2.1 seconds before Sweet returned to traffic and had to deal with a hard-charging Abreu in the closing stages.

With 15 laps to go, Abreu had trimmed the gap down to two-thirds of a second and a circuit later, he was within three car lengths of the NAPA Auto Parts No. 49 in his quest for the victory as Eliason and Haudenschild made it a four-way fight at the front of the field.

Inside of 10 laps remaining, however, Sweet began to pull away one more time. He worked traffic to perfection and, despite Abreu’s best efforts as the road began to clear, Sweet used the cushion to hang on to the lead and appeared to be gone into the wind before mass chaos broke out on the final lap.

Jacob Allen got the worst end of a multi-car incident, getting upside down on the outside of turns one and two as D.J. Netto and Scott Bogucki also tangled at the exit of the corner.

Abreu and Haudenschild came together in turn four just prior to the accident on the other end of the speedway, with Abreu forced to retire due to broken steering less than a lap away from the finish.

That left Haudenschild to duel with Sweet on the two-lap overtime dash, but Haudenschild stumbled and could do nothing with the California native in the battle for the race win.

“I didn’t know if I had anything for Brad, but I knew I had to get a good jump (on the restart) and I didn’t,” noted Haudenschild. “I didn’t have a chance to slide him. I thought about following him, but he ripped it so well on the top that I wasn’t making any ground up. He did a great job … hopefully the fans enjoyed the show, because I had a blast.

“Running with Brad and Rico, you can’t make any mistakes and we definitely made a few that kept us from challenging better. We’ll look forward to Calistoga and see what we can do there.”

Local California veteran Andy Forsberg completed the podium, followed by Tim Kaeding and Cory Eliason.

Tanner Thorson, Daryn Pittman, Logan Schuchart, Shane Golobic and World of Outlaws point leader Donny Schatz were the remainder of the top 10.

Martin Pelletier Dominates Sportsman Modified Field at Cornwall Motor Speedway

Martin Pelletier leads all 50-laps to win his second DIRTcar Sportsman series race in 2018

CORNWALL, ONT – September 2, 2018 – Martin Pelletier showed everyone why he was the guy to beat in the northern portion of the DIRTcar Sportsman division as he led all 50 laps in the feature to capture a second win on the tour this season.

‘’I was lucky in the draw, I am not sure I would have been able to pass so many cars as the track was tacky’’ mentioned a humble Pelletier in the winner circle. ‘’I had a tremendous year, quite incredible to be able to win so many wins’’ said Pelletier who captured his 22nd win of the season after securing track titles at Granby, RPM and Drummond over the weekend. ‘’ I will take a week off and then attack all the races in the fall’’ finished Pelletier talking about the DIRTcar Series races in September and October.

Martin Pelletier and Alex Lajoie led the field to green in the Co-Op Embrun 50, Pelletier led the first lap as Jarrett Herbison slowed in turn 4 bringing the field together. On the restart Pelletier kept the lead with Justin Lalancette moving up to second and Lajoie in third. Caution was back out on lap 7 for Ricky Thompson.

Pelletier to the lead as a good battle for third was occurring between Adam Rozon and Martin Hebert. Pelletier pulled away from the field as the first fifteen laps were in the books.

A few cautions slowed the field down and Pelletier had great starts at each occasion with Justin Lalancette running a strong second with Adam Rozon in third as the feature hit the halfway point.

The race picked some momentum as the leader joined lapped traffic, Lalancette started to challenge the leader as they ran side by side for a few laps as the yellow slowed the field down with 10 laps to go.

On the following restart, Pelletier remained in first as Cornwall point’s leader Shane Pecore cracked the top 3 as top 5 contenders Fred Gamache and Adam Rozon got together losing some ground over the field.

Pelletier went on to lead the whole 50-lap event and captured his second DIRTcar Sportsman North Series win over Lalancette and Pecore.

The northern series will be back in action in less than 2 weeks at Mohawk International Raceway.

Magnolia State Cotton Pickin’ 100 Early Entries Begin to Arrive

Magnolia Motor Speedway Hosts Mega Event on September 20-22

Columbus, Mississippi (09/05/18) – The 2018 edition of the Magnolia State Cotton Pickin’ 100 at Magnolia Motor Speedway is just over two weeks away and Super Late Model pre-entries are beginning to roll in for the big event.

Former event winners headline some of the early entries, which now includes drivers from eight states.

Defending Champion, Brandon Overton from Evans, Georgia – who is fresh off a $50,000 win in the Hillbilly 100 – headlines the list which also includes former event winners Chris Wall and Morgan Bagley.

Dirt Late Model Hall of Famer, Dale McDowell from Chickamauga, Georgia has filed his entry.

Other early entries include former MARS and Lucas Oil MLRA Champion Tony Jackson Jr. from Lebanon, Missouri as well three-time and defending COMP Cams Super Dirt Series Champion, Jack Sullivan. Defending Ultimate Super Late Model Series Champion, Tyler Millwood from Kingston, Georgia has filed his entry as well.

Other early entries include Vic Hill, Billy Moyer Jr., Donald McIntosh, Zachary McMillan, Timothy Culp, Cade Dillard, Spencer Hughes, Jon Mitchell, B.J. Robinson, Dane Dacus, and more.

The 2018 Magnolia State Cotton Pickin’ 100 will be held on Thursday-Saturday, September 20-22. After seeing an Open Practice Session held on Thursday, September 20 there will be a $4,000-to-win/$300-to-start, 30-lap finale on Friday night, September 21 for the Super Late Models, while Saturday night, September 22 will see the division competing in a $12,000-to-win/ $700-to-start, 70-lap finale.

For the first time ever, each night will see a full docket of time trials, heat races, B-Mains, and a main event for the Super Late Model ranks.
The early entry fee for the weekend is only $100. Super Late Model competitors have until Saturday, September 15 to file an early entry for the event. After this date, the entry fee will be $150. Joining the Super Late Models on the weekend’s docket are big events for the Durrence Layne Late Models, Durrence Layne Sportsman, the Mississippi Street Stock Series (MSSS), and Factory Stocks/Pure Stocks.

The Durrence Layne Late Models will be competing for a $3,000 top prize. MSSS Street Stocks will be competing for $2,000-to-win. Factory Stocks/Pure Stocks will be competing for $1,000-to-win, and Late Model Sportsman will race for $1,200-to-win.

FASTRAK $2,500 to win Dirt Wars at 311 Motor Speedway September 8th

The FASTRAK Racing Series powered by Chevrolet Performance will hit the high banks of 311 Motor Speedway this Saturday night for $2,500 to win as part of Dirt Wars. The Stars and Cars of FASTRAK will battle it out on the ½-mile Pine Hall, NC speedplant for their share of over $10,000 in purse money. The race is the final tune up before the FASTRAK World Championship weekend, with a weekend purse totaling over $75,000.

Dirt Wars at 311 Motor Speedway will continue Big Money September for the FASTRAK Racing Series powered by Chevrolet Performance, which features $140,000 in purse money up for grabs through the month. Over Labor Day Weekend, the series concluded the 4th Annual FASTRAK East Coast Rumble, with Carson Ferguson claiming the Championship Belt. Matthew Nance also claimed the 14th Annual FASTRAK Triple Crown title at Beckley Motorsports Park on Friday, August 31st.

Nance is the current series point leader, followed by Brett Hamm. Corey Almond is in third. Brad Basey and Matt Long round out the top five.

The gates will open at 3pm with the drivers meeting scheduled for 6:30pm. Hot laps are slated for 7pm, and racing will begin at 8pm. Grandstand admission is $20 and pit admission is $35. 311 Motor Speedway is located at 4390 US Hwy 311N Pine Hall, NC.

At the undisputed heavyweight champion of dirt modified shows, race fans will witness a complete program all three nights, with $5,000 going to the Modified winner on the first two nights while Saturday’s winner will pocket $10,000. Thirty cars will start the main event each night. Thursday’s Non-Qualifiers Race will pay $700 to win and a minimum of $100 for each of the 24 starters. Saturday’s Mon-Qualifiers Race will pay $2,000 to win and a minimum $250 for each of the 30 starters. Saturday’s championship main event will start three-wide.

Thursday is the final points race in the USMTS Hunt for the Casey’s Cup powered by Summit. On Friday and Saturday, the Modifieds will be co-sanctioned by the USMTS and USRA with drivers earning Summit USRA Weekly Racing Series national points.

There will be a complete show each night. The top 15 in heat race passing points are locked into “A” Main each night with the top 8 redrawing for the first eight starting positions. An additional 15 drivers will advance from the “B” Mains.

B-Mods will battle for $750 to win and $75 to start on Thursday, $1,000 to win and $100 to start on Friday, and $1,200 to win and $150 to start on Saturday. Points will be awarded in the Iron Man Challenge for Out-Pace USRA B-Mods and Summit USRA Weekly Racing Series national points all three nights.

An additional 15 will advance from the “B” Mains to the 30-car “A” Main each night. Saturday’s “A” Main will start three-wide. WHAT’S GOING ON

Bean Bag Tournament – Bragging rights for this year’s Jamboree Bean Bag Tournament begins with sign-in at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday near the campground area. The battle begins at high noon.

Breakfast – The Bear Creek Lutheran Church will once again be serving breakfast in beer garden on Thursday, Friday and Saturday mornings from 8-11 a.m. An all-you-can-eat plate is just $9.

Golf Tournament – The annual Club Car Jamboree Open golf scramble for racers, crew members, event officials and fans will tee off at 10 a.m. at the Willow Creek Golf Course, located about two miles from the Rochester Airport. Sign-in begins at 9 a.m. The top three teams will score cash prizes and many other awesome prizes will also be awarded throughout the day.

The Dweebs – Back by popular demand for the seventh straight year, The Dweebs will be rocking the Deer Creek Speedway on Friday night immediately following the races. Family-owned and operated since 1987, America’s Favorite Party Band will be playing free for all race attendees and all ages, plus fans can partake in the annual Halloween Costume Contest during the live concert.

Wednesday – An open practice is scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 19. The pit gate opens at 12 p.m. with a drivers meeting at 5:30 at the USMTS trailer followed by practice from 6-9 p.m. Admission to the grandstands is free.

Thursday – Tickets are $25 or $10 for kids ages 12 and under. A three-day reserved ticket is $80 or $30 for kids. The pit gate opens at 3 p.m., driver sign-in at the USMTS trailer begins at 4 p.m., grandstand gates open at 5 p.m., the drivers meeting will be held under the hospitality tent in the pit area at 6 p.m., opening ceremonies begin at 6:45 and racing gets underway at 7 p.m. There will be a DJ and karaoke in the hospitality area behind the grandstands after the races.

Friday – Tickets are $25 or $10 for kids ages 12 and under. Weiss Pockets $50,000 Sunoco North/South 100 Payday

UNION, KY (August 11, 2018) – Ricky Weiss scored the biggest win of his racing career on Saturday night capturing the Sunoco Race Fuels North/South 100 presented by Lucas Oil at Florence Speedway.

Weiss withstood a battle with Hudson O’Neal in the final ten laps to record his first career crown jewel win and his first Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series victory.

Tim McCreadie made a late-race charge to take second from O’Neal. Jimmy Owens finished in fourth and current points leader Jonathan Davenport finished fifth.

O’Neal led the first seven laps of the race before Earl Pearson Jr. took control. Pearson Jr. and Weiss ran first and second for most of the race until Pearson was forced to pit under a caution flag with a left-rear flat tire. Weiss became the new leader and seemed to be in control of the race until O’Neal made a charge for the lead on lap 90.

The final caution came out, and with nine laps left on the ensuing restart, Weiss pulled away from O’Neal and McCreadie quickly began gaining ground on the leaders. Weiss managed to hold off McCreadie who went by O’Neal on the final lap to capture the runner-up spot.

The 29-year-old Canadian racer, who finished second last month in the Silver Dollar Nationals at I-80 Speedway, was thrilled to finally get that first big win. “It will take a while to sink in. Thanks to Shawn [Gage] and Cody [Mallory], Scott Bloomquist, and everybody else on this team. It’s finally paid off. We have gotten better and better. I want to thank Vic Hill; this motor ran great. These Sweet-Bloomquist Race Cars; there are none better in my opinion. It’s definitely helped my program.”

Weiss became the fifteenth different winner on the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series in 2018. “Being door-to-door with those guys tonight, like I said it may be a few days for it to sink in. We had a good race there with Earl [Pearson Jr.]. I listened to Scott [Bloomquist] before the race and he told me not to slide the tires. It’s a long race, under the caution I was trying to tell my crew guys that he [Pearson] was getting a flat tire. Then to run door-to-door with Hudson, I know it’s his last-race of the year and he probably wanted to win it more than anyone.”

McCreadie’s bid for back-to-back wins came up short as he congratulated Weiss in victory lane. “It’s good to see the payoff is now up to par with all of the other big races in the country. I just needed a little break at the end. On the restarts I was down on the bottom. The flat tire we had didn’t help. The crew did a great job getting me back out on the track. I said there was no use saving the deck at the end, so I just let it go. We made up a lot of track on those guys. I hope I made a good clean pass on Hudson. Up top you get a 10 mile-an-hour faster run on someone when you go into that corner and you don’t know what’s going to happen.”

O’Neal who won the Ralph Latham Memorial on Wednesday night at Florence ended his season with a third-place finish. “I came here to win tonight. We have had a good car all week. I feel bad for the team. I had a good week. It was a good way to go out this year. Thanks for all of the fans that support me, and I will miss all of you, but we will be back in February.”

53,000 SILVER DOLLARS FOR DAVENPORT

GREENWOOD, NEBR. (July 21, 2018) – Jonathan Davenport picked up his second-career, Imperial Tile Silver Dollar Nationals victory at I-80 Speedway on Saturday night.

Davenport passed Bobby Pierce for the lead on lap 77 after Pierce began to lose momentum due to mechanical problems under the hood. Pierce’s car ultimately stopped for good on lap 78. Davenport then sailed to the $53,000 victory at the Kosiski Family promoted facility. Ricky Weiss settled for second with Jimmy Owens surviving a three-wide battle on the final lap to finish in the third position. Hudson O’Neal and Earl Pearson Jr. rounded out the top five.

Davenport; who won the race in 2016; returned to the event after a year’s absence and picked up his eighth series win of the season after starting in 12th. “WOW, what a race car! Like I have said before, Jason Durham and Kevin Rumley have given me a great car. After we hot lapped I knew I had a good car. I was just biding my time for a while at the start of the race. I knew I had a shot to win it. We just rode and rode, waiting for the right moment which is probably the hardest thing to do in a race. To let all of those guys get that far out in front.”

“Ricky [Weiss] and Bobby [Pierce] did a heck of a job out there tonight. I didn’t want to go that fast early. I knew the top would be there. That is probably where the race was going to be won. I just wanted to have the best tire there at the end. I really hate it for him [Pierce]. I really do for him and the whole Dunn-Benson Team. Before I passed him, I had really started to pick the pace up.”

Weiss pocketed $20,000 for his second-place performance. “We were really good tonight. I started to roll through the middle and I thought heck I might be a little quicker. I have done this before and burnt the tires off and then the middle started to go away a little bit. When I got to Scott [Bloomquist] I was a little quicker than him, so I just rolled by him. I think the tow got knocked out of it a little bit. I saw Bobby [Pierce] starting to smoke and then Jimmy [Owens] went by me, so I thought we might have a shot to win. To finish second in the race against this type of competition is a big boost to our race team.”

Owens had a shot at second-place at the end of the 80-lap event but wound up in third. “We had a pretty decent car tonight. I just was riding around the back in the first part of the race. We just got up on the wheel and started running harder. We had a great car. We probably waited a little too long to get to the front,” said the driver of the Ramirez Motorsports, Rocket.
