Things did not go well one week ago for Eddie Moss Jr.#8 at North Florida Speedway for the FMSA opening season race as he flipped out of the feature early and tore up his racer pretty severely.
He spent most of the week putting it back together and it paid off in dividends as he convincily won the fea…ture event at the Hendry County Motorsports Park in Clewiston , Florida last night [March 16th].
14 mini sprints signed in the “pit shack” a lighter field than usual being that some racers are still putting the finishing touches on their entries and a couple had “issues” from the week before including the #7 Jesse James Demolition/TNT Racing XXX Chassis racer of Gavin Thomas from Jacksonville , Florida with “engine woes”.
Two heats made up the qualifying with the first being won by Eddie Moss Jr. #8 of Deland, Florida with Rhea Moss #23 in her new HYPER chassis racer second, Johnny Crowder #30 from Summerfield , Florida driving his RTS Chassis third, Robert Crandall #20 making his first appearance of the year in the regular FMSA season finishing fourth, followed by Casselberry , Florida’s #67 David Hall driving the Todd’s Tomatoes entry , Marco Island’s #116 Nicholas Snyder in his Stallard Chassis and Bob Toney #243 racing his Bailey Chassis rounded out the field in heat one.
Heat two saw Orlando , Florida’s Jody McKenzie #18 score his second heat win in as many weeks and Jody has been looking pretty good early in the season and could score a feature win soon. Dirk Miller from Deland , Florida driving his own Todd’s Tomatoes entry #68 HYPER Chassis racer was second. Third went to “Front” Paige Moss #04 in her HYPER and fourth to Chase Cabre #39 in his first FMSA appearance for 2013. Palm Coast , Florida’s Robert Snyder #3S and Richard Hager #6 rounded out the field for heat two. Dylan Colding #23 did not start the heat race after having problems in the hot lap session.” Went out for practice and the brake rotor was hitting the seat. So we had to redo the spacing on the rear axle and missed our heat race.” said Dylan.
Feature time saw Eddie Moss Jr.#8 starting on the pole position and driving off from the field followed by the #18 Jody McKenzie, #23 Rhea Moss, #30 Johnny Crowder and the #39 of Chase Cabre.
Dirk Miller with the #68 passed Cabre followed by the #116 Nicholas Snyder and the #04 of Paige Moss. Miller worked his way up thru the field and soon found himself in fourth trying to catch Moss. Eddie was flying on this night with his newly reconstructed HYPER and built up a substantial lead. Jody McKenzie #18 having a great run was still in second followed by #23 Rhea Moss, #68 of Miller and the #30 of Johnny Crowder.
Paige Moss #04 then tagged the wall on the front stretch caught her car but lost 4 spots. On lap 7 Bob Toney’s #243 went off the track because of a broken spring on the shock. The caution came out on lap 9 for the #04 of Paige Moss spinning out.
Upon the Delaware restart on lap 10 and Eddie Moss Jr. takes off again while the #30 Johnny Crowder had a bad re-start and went back 5 cars the Dirk Miller #68 passed the #18 McKenzie for second followed by Rhea Moss and Chase Cabre. At this point Miller is coming on strong trying to catch and pass Eddie Moss but to no avail and on the white flag lap #18 Mckenzie and #23 Rhea Moss “mix it up” with Rhea dropping back to sixth.
At the checkered it was Moss #8 the winner , Dirk Miller #68 second , Chase Cabre #39 coming home with an outstanding third place finish in his first FMSA appearance in 2013, Casselberry, Florida’s #67 of David Hall methodically worked his way thru the field to finish fourth and Jody McKenzie coming home in a respectable fifth place finish.
The FMSA “Showtime Tour” turns it’s attentions to their second visit to the North Florida Speedway in 2013 March 23rd at the Lake City , Florida dirt oval and several new cars and some old drivers will be making their return to the FMSA on the 23rd and a 30 car field is not out of the question.
