KNOXVILLE, Iowa (September 13, 2019) – Ricky Weiss passed Chris Madden on lap sixteen and went on to record his first career win at Knoxville Raceway on Friday night. The 30-year-old Canadian racer became the 17th different winner on the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series tour this season. Weiss started on the pole but fell to second behind Madden on the opening lap – trailing the South Carolina racer for the first fifteen laps of the 25-lap main event. Madden got bogged down in heavy traffic and that allowed Weiss to slip by for the lead. Madden rallied to make a final attempt to overtake Weiss on the final lap but came up short of his fifth Lucas Oil win of the season. Josh Richards brought the Clint Bowyer Racing, Rocket home in third after starting in eleventh. Iowa native Tyler Bruening recorded his best career finish at Knoxville by taking fourth and Don O’Neal completed the top five. “It’s awesome to be in Victory Lane here at Knoxville,” said Weiss. “We haven’t been able to capture the big one here yet, but this is our chance. After last night, we were happy with that. We were locked into the show for Saturday and we debated switching cars tonight and trying something. Shawn [Gage] didn’t want to, because he knew this car is good and he has the confidence in me to keep it in one piece.” Weiss added: “Everytime we touch the track; it gets better and better. I didn’t mind that Chris [Madden] set the pace at the start. We don’t seem to fire like those guys at the start of a race, but we are there at the end. It was good to learn off of him [Madden] to know where we can get better. I used to play this track on a video game and now we are here in Victory Lane.” Madden came up just short of his first-career win at Knoxville, crossing the line a close second. “We had a good car for the first half of the race, but I got extremely tight and I couldn’t turn across the middle of the corners. I was just trying to bide my time and I was hoping not to get into traffic, that opened the door for Ricky. To have the night we had last night and to bounce back and have the night we had tonight is great. We can tune on it now and be ready for tomorrow night.” Richards’ stirring run was without the benefit of a single caution flag during the race. “We absolutely needed a caution. I feel like I was running those top two down. We had a fast car. I was relying on the cushion get up there. That was more of an old-school Knoxville with a ledge up there by the wall. It was slick all the way across the track and we could carry speed wherever we wanted to go. Shane Clanton Scores First Career Knoxville Victory

KNOXVILLE, Iowa (September 12, 2019) – Shane Clanton came from the seventh starting spot to win Thursday night’s preliminary event at Knoxville Raceway. For the 44-year-old Georgia native, it was his first-ever win at the historic venue. He also became the sixteenth different winner this season on the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series tour. Clanton was the fourth different leader of the 25-lap race. The A-Main was slowed by only one caution flag for Jonathan Davenport on lap four. Ricky Thornton Jr. led the first lap in the Chad Stapleton-owned Club 29 Race Car. His place atop the leader board was short-lived as outside front-row starter Devin Moran took the lead on lap number two. Moran led until Tyler Erb took the lead away from him on lap five. Clanton charged from the inside of row number four and grabbed the lead away from Erb on lap fourteen.
Clanton pulled away from Erb and went on to pick up the preliminary night victory. Erb crossed the finish line in second, followed by a close finish between Darrell Lanigan and Ricky Weiss for third and fourth. Thornton was fifth. Clanton; in Lucas Oil Victory Lane for the first time in 2019; thanked his chassis builder Marshall Green for his set-up advice over the phone before the start of the race. “Our car has been good all night long. We just made the right adjustments. I was biding my time behind Terbo [Erb], and it looked like he was hurting his tires. I went to the middle and the car stuck, and we went by him, then that was all she wrote.” “To win here at Knoxville is a dream come true,” Clanton added. “I have seen Donny Schatz win here so many times and I would like to start my own legacy here. This is a team effort, all the way to everybody with Marshall back at the shop. Penske Shocks and Keith Berner from Accu-Force tested with us earlier in the year and it has made a difference in our program. Thanks to Greg Bruening for letting me drive his race car. This is a big win for him as well because he’s from Iowa. It’s hard to beat what we had here tonight for a track. Hats off to all of the Knoxville crew for a great job.” Erb led nine laps but came home in the runner-up spot. “There wasn’t a whole lot I could do in the last ten or fifteen laps, he [Clanton] had a better car. He could maneuver through a lot better than I could. My car felt really good. It’s the same kind of issue we have been having. The longer we go, the tires just get hot. We are going to work on it. It was a good run. This is my favorite racetrack that we come to.” Lanigan edged out Weiss at the finish line to round out the podium. “The car got really good through the middle and the bottom. I would have liked to have seen a caution to see if we could have made a late-race charge. JUNCTION CITY, Ky. (August 30, 2019) – Tim McCreadie picked up his first Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series victory of 2019 on Friday night at Ponderosa Speedway. A record-setting crowd for the 15th annual John Bradshaw Memorial saw McCreadie become the fifteenth different winner on the tour this season. McCreadie held off a mid-race charge from Tanner English to take his first-ever win at the d-shaped oval. English’s family owned Rocket Chassis finished in second, followed by current series point leader Jonathan Davenport, Don O’Neal, and Tyler Erb. Billy Moyer Jr. and McCreadie made up the front row of the starting grid for the 50-lap main event. McCreadie charged to the lead at the drop of the green flag. Moyer Jr. held the second-spot until Kyle Strickler moved by him on lap ten. Strickler then pressured McCreadie for the race lead by closing on his bumper several times as the two entered heavy traffic. The first caution of the race came on lap thirteen, just as the race for the lead was heating up. When the race resumed, McCreadie and English took the second spot after Strickler got stuck against the wall coming off of turn number two. At the halfway mark, McCreadie still showed the way with English in second and fifteenth starting Don O’Neal in his first race since mid-June. O’Neal and Davenport went back-and-forth in the race for third and fourth for several laps. Davenport was finally able to clear O’Neal with four laps to go to earn a podium finish. Meanwhile, McCreadie pulled away from English in the waning laps to deny the Kentucky racer his first career Lucas Oil victory.
The New York native did his customary victory lane celebration to a cheering crowd. “It was very aggressive out there tonight. It was more demanding than I wanted it to be. Thanks to Longhorn Chassis, Kevin Rumley, Justin Labonte, Philip Snellen, and everybody else with the team. This car has won a lot of money this year. We keep parking it, so maybe we shouldn’t leave it in the stable anymore. It’s about time we finally won one of the Lucas Oil races.” “It’s pretty cool to race here,” McCreadie added. “The crowd is right on you here with this d-shaped oval. We don’t normally run tracks like this. You can see when someone is coming behind you because the grandstand comes to its feet. So, I want to thank all the fans for helping me in lapped traffic. We have been working really hard on the shocks the last few weeks. This whole deal is tough, and we are just glad to be back in Victory Lane.” English, who has been a frequent visitor at Ponderosa Speedway, was pleased with his runner-up finish. “I thought we might have had him [McCreadie] in lap traffic. I also thought I was the only one to make a softer tire work, but I was fading at the end and he [McCreadie] got away from me. I will take second against these guys any night.” Davenport, who started eighth, charged to a third-place finish. “We have been working on this Longhorn program a lot. McCreadie has been catching up and doing really good. Kevin [Rumley] has been working with him and hopefully we can get him up to second in the points. MANSFIELD, Ohio (August 24, 2019) – Brandon Sheppard took the race lead from Jonathan Davenport on lap 30 and led the rest of the way to win the 2nd annual Dirt Million – Presented by Arizona Sport Shirts on Saturday night at Mansfield Motor Speedway. Sheppard held off both Mike Marlar and Chase Junghans at the finish line. It was Sheppard’s third Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series win of the year and his 22nd triumph in 2019. Sheppard and his car owner, Mark Richards took home $101,626.20 for his second six-figure victory of the season. He withstood a caution with two laps to go and another on the final lap while fighting off challenges from Marlar and Junghans. Marlar earned a career-high $50,813.10 payday for finishing second. Junghans also topped his best previous earnings for a race by collecting over $33,000 for third. Jimmy Owens and Ricky Weiss completed the top five finishers. Davenport took the lead at the start of the race with Sheppard and Scott Bloomquist running in the top three. Junghans slipped by Bloomquist on lap three and joined in the fray. That trio ran nose-to-tail up to lap 14 as traffic started to become a factor. With the back-to-back cautions on lap 16 and 17, Davenport was unable to pull away from the field. On the lap 18 restart, Junghans moved into second, dropping Sheppard to third. Junghans stayed with Davenport in the race for the lead. On lap 30, Sheppard passed both Davenport and the second place running Junghans to take over the lead of the race. Sheppard went to Lucas Oil Victory Lane for the 14th time in his career. “This is just amazing! My guys worked so hard on this thing. I put a lot of pressure on myself. I know this car can go to Victory Lane every night as long as I do my part. It was a phenomenal night. I knew I didn’t want to lead early on in that race. I didn’t want to run the top all night, so once I got to the lead, I got back on the bottom. It was a fun race. Thanks to Mark Richards and Steve Baker for giving me this opportunity.” Marlar tried a couple of times on the topside to pass Sheppard, but ultimately settled on a second-plcae finish. “The whole race, I was just trying to make sure I had enough tires at the end. I was hoping when Brandon got to the traffic that he would get behind one of the cars in the back long enough to hold him up. Brandon is an awesome driver; he doesn’t make many mistakes. He is always fast, and you have to be faster to beat him. My car owner Ronnie Delk is a go for it type of guy and he trusts me with whatever decision I make out there and I think he would have had faith in me to make the best choice.” Junghans, who entered Saturday with two consecutive runner-up finishes, was looking for his first career Lucas Oil victory. “If I could have gotten around JD [Davenport] earlier or if I had started on the pole it might have been different. The car has been good all weekend I just need to thank my crew for giving me a great car. I am kind of disappointed that we ran third, I felt like we should have won. It’s pretty cool to earn that kind of money for third. I am here to race. MANSFIELD, Ohio (August 23, 2019) – Brandon Sheppard and Mike Marlar won Duel feature events on Friday night of the 2nd annual Dirt Million – Presented by Arizona Sport Shirts at Mansfield Motor Speedway. Each driver earned $10,000 for their 30-lap victories and are guaranteed a starting spot in Saturday night’s Dirt Million finale.
Sheppard took the lead on lap two from pole-sitter Kent Robinson and led the rest of the way to win the first Duel. It was not an easy win for the 26-year-old Illinois racer, as he had to hold off both a charging Jimmy Owens and the defending Dirt Million winner, Earl Pearson Jr. Brandon Overton was fourth, with Hudson O’Neal coming from the fifteenth starting spot to register a fifth-place finish at the checkers. “It was really hard staying out front,” said Sheppard. “They have got the track really good right now. You had to have a line where the car would go best. With traffic in front of us, we really didn’t know where to go. My crew guys are awesome, they kept me up to date on where I needed to be on the track. It was tricky out there. I felt good around the top of three and four and in one and two I felt good all over.” “This car is just phenomenal right now. They have it really tuned in. We had a car that was capable of winning last night. It was just a little harder to pass last night,” said the winner, who recorded his 13th career Lucas Oil win and his first since winning the Indiana Icebreaker at Brownstown (IN) Speedway in March. Owens was in the hunt for the win from the halfway mark and came home in second after passing Pearson on lap 21. “It is hands down better than we ran here last night. It felt good to be battling for the win. Brandon [Sheppard], he is one of the toughest guys in the country right now, and to have him moving around and looking over his shoulder the whole race was pretty awesome.” Pearson; who collected over $202,000 for his win in the Dirt Million a year ago; returned to the Lucas Oil podium with his third-place finish: “It wasn’t too bad tonight. We got up on the cushion and did our thing, which is unusual for me to go to the cushion. We weren’t bad up on the cushion either. Marlar claimed his fourth Lucas Oil win of the season, leading all 30-laps for a convincing victory. Chase Junghans; for the second night in a row; recorded a second-place finish. Michael Norris, in the Clint Bowyer Racing #5 entry, posted his best career Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series finish rounding out the podium. Jonathan Davenport finished fourth with Tyler Erb crossing the finish line in fifth. Marlar who also started on the pole of a Thursday night duel was not going to be denied tonight as he stormed to the lead early on over Norris and Junghans. Norris, who like Junghans, was seeking his first career Lucas Oil win, closed on Marlar in heavy traffic with twelve laps scored. Junghans made the pass on Norris for second on lap 20. Marlar held steady in lapped traffic as Junghans and Norris could not get close enough in the waning laps to challenge for the win. Like Sheppard, the win also marked Marlar’s thirteenth career win with the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series. Marlar led every lap for his win. “Last night was a bummer when you get a good starting spot like that. It’s tough when you win a heat and get to start up front like we did. The car was something I could deal with today better than last night. It was definitely ‘elbows up’ early. Last year we had a real good shot for the win and a carburetor spring broke I think I was running second when it broke and I had to start lifting on the gas pedal.” Junghans was pleased with another runner-up finish. “The third times the charm, right? Mikey is hard to beat. I wish the track would have gotten a little wider for us. We still have a little bit of tuning on the car to do yet. But it’s really good right now. We just need to build off of last night and tonight.” Norris was thrilled with his podium finish. “Just to run with these guys is pretty awesome. The car was really good there. I thought we might actually have a shot at Mikey. The car got a little snug at the end there and that kind of played a factor. Congrats to him. MANSFIELD, Ohio (August 22, 2019) – Scott Bloomquist and Jonathan Davenport claimed feature victories during Thursday night’s preliminary program for the 2nd annual Dirt Million – Presented by Arizona Sport Shirts. Bloomquist, a three-time Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series National Champion won the first 30-lap Duel of the night in the new format instituted for this year’s race. Davenport, the two-time and defending series champion held off a trio of drivers in a furious finish in the second 30-lap Duel. Both feature races went caution-free. Bloomquist took the lead at the start of the first feature and sprinted away to easily pick up the win. The win marks his all-time leading 95th Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series career win. Both Josh Richards and Brandon Sheppard tried to track down Bloomquist, but the boss of Team Zero went to Victory Lane for the first-time at Mansfield. With the win, Bloomquist cemented himself into Saturday’s 100-lap Dirt Million main event. Richards held off Sheppard to earn the runner-up spot with Michael Norris and Darrell Lanigan rounding out the top five. Bloomquist was elated in Lucas Oil Victory Lane: “The car has felt great after we found out what was wrong with it. We put in on a jig last week and it was pretty far off. We had a pretty good car last week at Batesville. I hope it feels as good here Saturday night. We hot lapped fast tonight, we qualified a little off, and we changed a few things that we didn’t like. I want to dedicate this race to Chris [Madden]. I hate it that he got hurt earlier in the week. He should be back in a few weeks.” “He [Bloomquist] was in a league of his own,” said the runner-up Richards. “There was one time we got caught up in lapped traffic that we were gaining on him just a little bit and that was only because of the lapped cars. We needed to be better. Me and Sheppard had a good race for second. We need to be a little better tomorrow night. The second duel feature saw Davenport take the lead from Mike Marlar on lap five and hold off a trio of drivers before he could go to Victory Lane for the eleventh time this season with the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series. Davenport got caught up in lapped traffic and that allowed Chase Junghans, Bobby Pierce, and Ricky Weiss all to close on him in the final ten laps of the race. Junghans passed Weiss for second with four laps to go as Pierce followed topside two laps from the finish. As the four drivers came off of turn four Davenport had traffic on front of him, but he held off a furious charge from the other three competitors for the win. “I was hoping to see the checkered flag sooner. I was looking around and I couldn’t really tell if anybody was underneath me. I was trying the bottom and the top. They were two-wide in front of me. I couldn’t make the middle work like I could the bottom and the top. I saw Stormy [Scott] down there on the bottom and he was pretty good, so I just tried to stay focused on what I was doing.” Junghans came close to scoring his first career Lucas Oil victory with his runner-up finish after starting in sixth. “The only way we were going to win was if JD missed his marks. It was a hornet’s nest down there with those lapped cars. I felt good around the bottom in three and four. The track was great once it cleaned off. LOCUST GROVE, Ark. (August 15, 2019) – Chris Madden continued his recent hot streak by winning Thursday night’s opener at Batesville Motor Speedway.

The win marks his third consecutive trip to Victory Lane in Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series competition. Madden survived a battle with Brandon Overton to score the victory on night one of the COMP Cams Topless 100 – Presented by Nutrien Ag Solutions.

Madden was unchallenged other than when he slid up the track after a lap 19 restart and Overton forged ahead on lap 21. Overton slid up the track a lap later which allowed Madden to get back by him and go on for the victory, his 11th career Lucas Oil Late Model Late Model Dirt Series win.

Madden; the 44-year-old South Carolina native; started alongside polesitter Mike Marlar on the front row for the 30-lap main event. Madden bolted to the lead at the drop of the green with Marlar going to the second position. Those two were joined by Overton and Davenport in lapped traffic as a four-car battle for the race lead was developing until a caution for fifth-place running Tyler Erb slowed the field.

After losing the lead for just one lap, Madden managed to regain his momentum and powered his way to the victory. Overton crossed the finish line in second with Madden’s teammate, Scott Bloomquist finishing in third. Jimmy Owens and Jonathan Davenport completed the top five.

“We were bottoming out getting into one. We shoved the nose across the center, and we got hung up in the fluff,” said the winner talking about how Overton had gotten by him for the race lead. “It opened the door for Brandon. We gathered it back together and made a good corner in 3 and 4. Right now going through the race I am wondering what we are hurting in this race and what we need to maintenance the car for tomorrow night’s race. We don’t want something to bite us that we overlooked tonight for Saturday’s big race.”

“If the track stays like this for tomorrow night we definitely learned a lot. I think Mooney will work on it and get it ready for the rest of the weekend. It will be back to the old Batesville.”

Overton, who was seeking his fifth career Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series victory was in the hunt the entire race. “As soon as he [Madden] pushed up the race track we were able to get by him. Then I went down there and did the same thing. I just got a little choppy and if you let it roll in there it would sit down for a little bit. Chris has the best car in the country right now so congratulations to him.”

Bloomquist ended up on the podium after starting in fifth. “Definitely this car is on track now. We can race now. I felt like we were holding our own out there. We might have to tweak it little bit more. We have got a different car under me now. It is great to see Chris winning. It’s great to know our cars are good right now. We just have to keep working hard and we will be fine.”

UNION, Ky. (August 10, 2019) – Chris Madden continued his recent hot-streak with a $50,000 victory in Saturday’s Sunoco Race Fuels North/South 100 – Presented by Lucas Oil at Florence Speedway.

Madden stormed from his tenth starting spot to sweep the weekend in front of the standing room only crowd. With his win, Madden became the seventh different driver to win the race in the last seven years.

Madden took the lead from Jimmy Owens on lap 76 and then went uncontested to score his eleventh career Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series victory.

Hudson O’Neal tried to catch Madden in the final four green flag laps, but he had to settle for second with Owens finishing in third. Devin Moran came from the fourteenth starting position to take fourth as Zack Dohm passed seventeen cars to earn the Hard Charger of the Race and rounded out the top five at the stripe.

In a race that saw four lead changes among three drivers, Owens grabbed the lead at the start of the race and led the first eighteen circuits of the 100-lap event. Bobby Pierce then bolted to the point on lap 19. Owens regained the lead on lap 34 and held a comfortable margin for most of the race, until a caution for Bobby Pierce on lap 72.

When the race resumed, Owens and Madden had a side-by-side battle between the two veteran drivers for several laps, until Madden finally managed to take the lead for good on lap 76.

“We knew we had a chance to win tonight,” Madden commented in Victory Lane. “We just wanted to stay out of trouble and position ourselves in the top five by halfway; try to gain some positions on the restarts. At this place, you just kind of inch on a guy, you just really don’t pass him in one try.”

What an awesome racecar and an awesome team we have,” said the winner, who became the 25th different driver to win the event since it began in 1983. “Thanks to all of the fans for coming out this weekend. We appreciate it. Whenever we got into traffic, I knew I had a car capable of winning the race.”

O’Neal recorded his best career finish in the event as he earned a $20,000 payday for second. “We were really good around the bottom all night. We never gave up on it. A couple of times we got shuffled back to fourth or fifth. I tried to search around and find some different angles out there. All-in-all we were good all weekend, we just needed to be one position better in this race. Congrats to Chris, he drove a great race.”

Owens led 60 laps but fell short of becoming the first four-time winner of the event. “It’s really a racy track. You don’t know whether to go high or low or the middle, that’s why it’s a hard race to win. We were comfortable where we were running. The track just had more grip down on the bottom as the race went on and that is where Madden and those guys were running. Both Chris and Hudson have had a great car all weekend. I am happy to come in third behind those guys.”

In the $2,000-to-win non-qualifier’s race, former Florence Speedway track champion Jason Jameson took the lead from Frank Heckenast Jr. after a late race restart and pulled away for the victory. Heckenast finished in second, followed by Robby Hensley, Johnny Scott, and Billy Green.
