AUBURNDALE SPEEDWAY FINALLY RETURNS TO ACTION SATURDAY FOR FAITH AND FAMILY NIGHT

It was June 24th when a wheel last turned in competition at Auburndale Speedway and even that night was interrupted by Mother Nature. The planned “Summer break” was extended due to a mean old lady named Irma, but damage from the hurricane has been repaired and the track will return to action this Saturday night for Harvest Meat Markets Faith & Family Night.

Church members who bring a church bulletin, ID or shirt will receive $5 off the regular adult admission. Also, teen groups and their leaders will be admitted free just by contacting track Marketing Manager Rick Bristol (407-497-0448).

It’s also Big Brother and Big Sister Night as well plus the Fellows Trucking Kids Club for ages 5-12 begins at 5:15 pm. Kids can still sign up for the Kids Club before things get under way, so get the youngsters there early to get signed up and have some fun.

As far as the racing goes, the Sunshine State Challenge Series (SSCS) Street-Stocks will compete for 50 laps while the V-8 Bombers will duke it out for 40 circuits of the speedway. The popular antique and classic Stock Cars, Modifieds, Sprint Cars and Midgets of the Daytona Antique Auto Racing Association (DAARA) will be featured along with action for the Q Mini Stocks, Scramblers and Mini Cup cars.

Ander Jackson of Punta Gorda currently holds a 19 point edge on Venice driver Kenny Gibson in the SSCS Street Stock points. Danny Caylor of Lehigh is third in points, some 24 markers behind Gibson. Bradenton’s James Nanney is fourth in points while local Auburndale driver Steven O’steen rounds out the current top five.

James Wright III has all but wrapped up the 2017 V-8 Bomber title even though there are several races left for the class. Wright is now exactly 100 points in front of Danny Burchfield who is 20 points up on third place Bubba Healey.
In the Q Mini Stocks, veteran Chris Narramore, Sr. has a comfy 75 point advantage over Colt Cecil with Jonh Cummins, Jr. nipping at Cecil’s heels, just five points behind him. The Mini Cup class is the closest right now as Russell Bush has seen his big point lead trimmed to just 13 by youngster Douglas Herrin, Jr. In the Scramblers, Dustin Wilson has been the dominant force as he now sits 65 points up on Keith Cantrill while William Kerns is just nine markers behind Cantrill.

Pit gates open Saturday afternoon at 3 pm with practice getting under way at
3:45 pm. Grandstand gates open at 5 pm with qualifying for the SSCS Street Stocks and the V-8 Bombers at 6:15 pm. Racing gets under way at 7 pm with eight lap heat races for the Scramblers, Mini Cups, DAARA cars and the Q Mini Stocks.

The Scramblers will be first up for feature race action followed by the Mini Cups and then the 50-lap contest for the SSCS Street Stocks.

After intermission the DAARA teams will compete in their feature events followed by the Q Mini Stocks. The 40-lap V-8 Bomber headliner will then wrap up the evening’s activity.

Adult admission for the evening of action is just $15 with seniors 55+ $13.
Children ages 5-12 are only $5 and all kids 4 and under get in free. The family 4-pack is just $32 for two adult and two children’s admissions (a $40 value). Pit passes are $30 per person and all parking is free. Again, church members who bring a church bulletin, ID or shirt will receive $5 off the regular adult admission.

First Look at Entry List for 46th Annual Winchester 400

One of the nation’s most prestigious Super Late Model races, the 46th Annual Winchester 400, will take place Sunday, October 8 at Winchester Speedway (IN). With three weeks remaining until the big race, ARCA/CRA Super Series officials released the first look at the entry list on Tuesday morning.

The list, which currently includes the names of 30 Super Late Model drivers, is headlined by defending Winchester 400 winner Travis Braden. The West Virginia driver will be returning to the high-banked Indiana oval hoping to add a second rifle to his collection.

In his way will be a stout field of drivers including Johnny VanDoorn, who is fresh off an ARCA/CRA Super Series win at Toledo Speedway (OH) this past weekend. Carrying the momentum of a win could help VanDoorn find his way to Winchester 400 victory lane for the first time in his career.

VanDoorn will be joined by fellow ARCA/CRA Super Series championship contenders Dalton Armstrong, Logan Runyon and Wes Griffith, Jr. Out of those four drivers, the driver with the best finish at Winchester will be crowned the 2017 series champion.

A pair of Southern Super Series championship contenders – Stephen Nasse and Chandler Smith – are also slated to make the trip to Indiana once their championship battle concludes. They will be joined by defending Southern Super Series champion Donnie Wilson.

Steven Wallace will make the trip from North Carolina to Winchester in hopes of earning his first Winchester rifle.

Kyle Busch Motorsports will be loading up and bringing not one, but two drivers who are both in search of their first rifle. Cole Rouse, a regular behind the wheel of a KBM Late Model, will make his first Winchester 400 trip with KBM, while NASCAR Camping World Truck Series driver Noah Gragson will be making his second SLM start this season for the team.

Another big team bringing in two drivers is David Gilliland Racing. Raphael Lessard will be making his return to Winchester after having a strong run in last year’s race. Chase Purdy will also be back behind the wheel of a DGR Super Late Model.

The Fury Race Cars team with young stars Harrison Burton and Christian Eckes hope to be a force to be reckon with at Winchester. Eckes, the defending Snowball Derby champion, is hoping to add the Winchester 400 to his resume while Burton is hoping to continue a hot streak and add a Super Late Model crown jewel win to his resume.

Hope Hornish recently competed at Winchester where she was consistently running in the top five among some stiff competition. She is returning for the big 400-lap feature hoping to have the same strength and become the first female to win the Winchester 400.

Rick Turner, the all-time leader in CRA starts, is also entered with hopes of adding another start to his career total.

The Midwest scene will be represented by drivers such as Jon Beach, inaugural ARCA/CRA Super Series champion Kenny Tweedy, former JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour champion Dan Leeck, Jack Dossey III, Scott Whitehouse, 2016 Winchester 400 runner-up Eddie VanMeter, Hunter Jack, Terry Fisher Jr., Rich Segvich and Kyle Crump.

Other drivers traveling to Indiana include Tennessee’s Mason Mingus, North Carolina’s Trevor Noles and Pennsylvania’s Jordan Miller.

A full list of current entries for the 46th Annual Winchester 400 can be seen below. The list below is a list of early entries with more drivers expected to be added to the list prior to the event.

Mike Marlar Wins Night #2 at Knoxville Raceway

KNOXVILLE, IA (September 15, 2017) Defending Lucas Oil Knoxville Late Model Nationals winner Mike Marlar, came from the seventh starting spot to win Friday night’s 25-lap preliminary feature event. Marlar took the lead on lap 20 from Tim McCreadie and then held off the field for the win. Marlar’s Ronnie Delk-owned Rocket Chassis became the second driver in the 13-year history of the event to score a perfect night in points.

McCreadie came home in second, with the previous night’s winner, Josh Richards taking third. Brandon Sheppard was fourth, with Chris Simpson completing the top five drivers.

McCreadie’s Sweeteners Plus, Longhorn would grab the lead at the start of the main event. He led one lap before Sheppard took control of the race on the second circuit. Sheppard held a healthy lead over McCreadie for most of the first half of the race, but McCreadie slowly reeled Sheppard in, passing him for the lead on the 18th lap.

A caution then bunched the field up as McCreadie led another lap after the restart and then Marlar got around him for the top spot. Marlar led the rest of the way to take his second Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series win of the season.

Marlar commented on his win in Lucas Oil Victory Lane: “When I got to third, I thought man this is an awesome race. Thanks to the fans for coming out tonight, they saw a good show. Ronnie Delk does not have any bad equipment. I wouldn’t call it a back-up car, it’s just the car were using tonight.”

Marlar will sit on the pole for the $40,000 to win finale on Saturday Night and was extremely pleased with his car and team. “We had a really good racecar tonight. My crew is just awesome. They got this car ready to go tonight. I have a lot of hometown people up here helping me this weekend and I appreciate every one of them.”

McCreadie had failed to make the feature on Thursday Night, yet rebounded to a runner-up finish. “We were good down on the bottom. We didn’t need that caution. You have to slow down so much entering the corner that someone on the outside has the momentum on you. I thought it was going to be Brandon [Sheppard] but it was Marlar and those guys that know what they are doing. We are going to work on our car and hopefully get better for tomorrow night.”

Richards came from the eighth starting position tonight to place third. “The track was a lot slicker tonight. We left the car alone after we tried some stuff early on. Mike did a great job. He has really fast car and we are going to have to get better to beat him tomorrow night.”

Marlar’s car is powered by a Cornett Racing Engines and is sponsored by Delk Equipment Sales, RS Trading Company, Sunoco Race Fuels, Integra, Modern Images, and GW Performance.

Completing the top ten were Jimmy Mars, Chase Junghans, Bobby Pierce, Darrell Lanigan, and Gregg Satterlee.

Richards Wins Opening Night of Lucas Oil Knoxville Late Model Nationals

KNOXVILLE, IOWA (September 14, 2017)- Current Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series point leader, Josh Richards took the lead on lap 16 from Jared Landers and then held off Landers to take the opening night of the 14th Annual Lucas Oil Knoxville Late Model Nationals at Knoxville Raceway. Richards started ninth on the grid and darted around leader Jimmy Owens, who pulled out of the race while leading.

Landers – who missed the events at Knoxville Raceway last year due to health issues – finished second in the Larry Moring Motorsports, Black Diamond. Jonathan Davenport finished third in the G.R. Smith, Rocket Chassis. Brandon Sheppard finished in fourth, and Don O’Neal completed the top five.

The 25-lap race saw four different leaders with Kyle Bronson, Landers, Owens, and Richards each holding the top spot during the race. The 29-year-old Richards who has four second-place finishes in the $40,000 finale on Saturday night is seeking his first career win in the crown jewel event.

“We had a really good car,” said the winner in Lucas Oil Victory Lane. “I hate it for Jimmy. He had a good car as well. I am not sure whether an oil line came off or what. Our car felt good on the bottom. We need to work on it some for Saturday’s big one. That cushion up against the wall was a little too treacherous for me. It feels good to get a win tonight. ”

“The car was really fast. This track is tricky. We have never won the big one here at Knoxville so this would be a good weekend to get it done. To get a big night under our belts like tonight means a lot. We will work on it tomorrow and hopefully be even better tomorrow night. ”

The Eric and Kelly Brock-owned, Best Performance Motorsports, Rocket Chassis is powered by a Durham Racing Engine and sponsored by Bulk Material Lift, Valvoline, Corey Frazier-State Farm, Keyser, Riggs Motorsports, Integra, Sunoco, Alexander Lawn and Landscaping, and Ultimate Firepit.

Landers charged hard at the end, but couldn’t catch Richards even in traffic. “Thanks to all the crew guys for their help. This is a brand-new car – the first-time we have been on the track with it. I am happy right now. We had a good shot to win tonight.”

Davenport took the third spot after starting seventh. “I finally found a line I liked out there. It was tricky through one and two there. We will take some good notes from tonight and be ready for tomorrow night.”

Completing the top ten were Jimmy Mars, Dale McDowell, Bobby Pierce, Shannon Babb, and Chase Junghans.

Devin Dixon Digs Deep to Claim Chevy Performance Championship

Ocala, Florida (09/05/17) – To say that it’s been a trying season for Devin Dixon and the Big Frog Motorsports team would be a giant understatement. From mechanical failures to random bad luck on the track, the team has truly seen a little bit of everything go array in 2017.

However, over the weekend the team’s fortune experienced a definite improvement as Dixon claimed both the Chevrolet Performance Super Late Model Series championship and rookie of the year title in the Big Frog Motorsports #58 Rocket XR1 entry.

“I’m not going to lie – a few weeks ago we were all pretty much ready to thrown in the towel,” said Big Frog Motorsports’ Augie Burttram. “It just seemed that the cards were terminally stacked against us. However, none of us gave up, and it’s really fulfilling to know that the end result is the overall championship.”

For Dixon being able to win both titles was a career moment.

“We set out with some definitive goals this season, and this weekend we were able to make two of them a reality,” Dixon noted. “There’s no quit in this team, and we’ll spend the rest of the season pursuing our other goal, which is to win races.”

The finale weekend for the 2017 campaign of the Chevrolet Performance Super Late Model Series took the team to Georgia for a pair of Labor Day weekend showdowns. On Saturday night the action came to life at Dixie Speedway (Woodstock, Georgia), where Dixon finished in the 9th-position in the $2,000-to-win, 30-lap finale.

With his performance on Saturday evening, he found himself just a few markers behind Austin Smith for the top spot in the championship battle heading into Sunday night’s event at Rome Speedway (Rome, Georgia).

Preliminary action positioned Dixon starting 6th on the grid for the 100-lap, $10,000-to-win feature event. He would go on to advance to a 4th-place finish behind race winner, Riley Hickman, Ronnie Johnson and Michael Page.

The finish was enough to allow him to take the series title and the rookie title.

Next on tap for the team is a trip to Virginia Motor Speedway (Jamaica, Virginia) on September 16 to take part in the FASTRAK World Championship. The event posts a $20,000 top prize. For more information on the race, please visit www.VaMotorSpeedway.com.

Southern All Stars Set Month Of September Races

FAYETTEVILLE, TN—The Southern All Star Dirt Racing Series has adjusted it schedule for the month of September with a pair of 40 lap $4,000 to win races.

Saturday night September 2nd the series will make its third stop of the season at the Thunderhill Raceway in Lawrenceburg, TN., for the Labor Day Weekend 40 at the high banked ¼ mile oval. The series has held two previous events at the West Tennessee track and they have been won by Spring Hill, TN., driver Brad Skinner and the second was won by Lakeland, TN., Dane Dacus. Both of these events have drawn great crowds to Rickey Spurgeon’s track but the July 8th crowd was one of the largest in the history of the track, so race fans need to get to the track early to get a seat as there was not one to be found when the nights’ events started in July.

The second event of September will be on Saturday night September 9th at Johnny Stokes Magnolia Motor Speedway in Columbus, MS., This race is the make up date for the rained out event in July, at that event 36 super late models had already checked in and then heavy thunderstorms developed at drivers meeting time making track conditions impossible to work back in and get the show in that night. This is the one and only yearly appearance at the west Mississippi track and if any indication of the turnout for the rained out event it should be a great night of racing.

Events that were scheduled to take place at the East Alabama Motor Speedway in Phenix City, Al., will not take place as Southern All Star official and EAMS could come together on sanctioning agreements between the two parties.

McCreadie Charges to First-Career North/South 100 Victory!

UNION, KY (August 12, 2017) – Tim McCreadie passed race-leader, Scott Bloomquist on lap 97 and then held off Bobby Pierce and Bloomquist to win the 35th Annual Sunoco Race Fuels North/South 100 – presented by Lucas Oil on Saturday night at the Florence Speedway. Bloomquist had been the dominant car for most of the race until McCreadie and Pierce went to the outside of the track – both forging ahead of Bloomquist with three laps remaining.

McCreadie earned $50,000 in his first-ever win at the King Family promoted facility. Pierce; last year’s winner; came home in second with Bloomquist; a 2-time winner of the race; finishing in third. Jimmy Owens led the first 17 laps, but finished in fourth. Darrell Lanigan was fifth at the checkered flag.

With a standing-room only crowd on hand for the event; McCreadie did his patented victory lane celebration that had the crowd cheering ever louder. “I think we all have learned a lot from Bobby [Pierce] – if there is something out there you need to run it. Bobby and I probably raced a bit too clean; we had an issue at the Show-Me. I appreciate that he ran me clean. He [Pierce] is turning into a true professional. He could have raced me dirty, but he didn’t.”

“Thanks to Sweeteners Plus and Longhorn Chassis this makes perfect sense. Never in my wildest dreams did I think it would turn out like this. Thanks to everybody at the shop, also a big thanks to Pro Power Racing Engines and Penske Racing Shocks. I was a little free early on, but as the track burned off we got better. I was tighter through the center than I would have liked. I am bullheaded sometimes, but I put my faith in my guys tonight and it paid off.”

Bloomquist took the lead from Owens on lap 18 and was in control of the race until with ten laps to go when McCreadie and Pierce both went to the top side to track Bloomquist down. The crowd then got on its collective feet as McCreadie took the lead from Bloomquist.

“Congrats to McCreadie on the win. That is what you call racing,” said Pierce. “A few months ago at the Show-Me I I kind of rubbed him a little bit. He wasn’t happy about that. Tonight we were duking it out and we kind of came up through the field like teammates there, it’s like we were drafting of each other. Last year there was a lot of cushion to use as compared to this year, so it made it a little tougher.”

Bloomquist; who was looking for his first North/South 100 win since 2000 and was coming off three-straight years of runner-up finishes; looked to be headed to his third win in the event until McCreadie and Pierce caught him. “We didn’t realize they were that high and I didn’t think there much up there to work with. I didn’t really get a signal to where they were at on the track. I had no way of knowing. We kind of stayed right in the middle and was pacing ourselves.”

Completing the top ten were Brandon Overton, Zack Dohm, Josh Richards, and Hudson O’Neal.
