DIRTcar UMP Modifieds Kick Off 47th Annual DIRTcar Nationals at Volusia Speedway Park

Nick Hoffman to go for “Three-Peat” as DIRTcar Nationals Champion Starting Tuesday, February 6

CONCORD, NC — Jan. 19, 2018 — One of the most popular divisions that race at Volusia Speedway Park during the DIRTcar Nationals are the DIRTcar UMP Modifieds. They’ve also been the busiest division during the month of February and perhaps the most competitive. With car counts averaging in the 70s and 101 feature races conducted since 2005, the DIRTcar UMP Modified division has produced 44 different Feature winners as well as 10 different champions over the past 13 years. Only three drivers have captured more than one championship, and it wasn’t done for the first time until 2013 when NASCAR legend Ken Schrader accomplished the feat.

No driver, though, has been more successful in recent years than two-time defending DIRTcar Nationals Modified Champion Nick Hoffman. The 25-year-old has ascended to the status of Best Gator at a surprising pace. Hoffman, the all-time career wins leader of the DIRTcar Nationals with 11, scored his first ever DIRTcar Nationals Feature on February 20, 2012 when he won the first of what would be three Big Gators, worth $5,000 each.

The wins didn’t stop for Hoffman after that. Single victories in 2013 and 2015 set the stage for the past two seasons of domination by the Belleville, IL-born driver. Four Feature wins each in both 2016 and 2017 propelled the driver of the No. 2 Elite Chassis entry to the last two DIRTcar Nationals titles within the DIRTcar UMP Modified division. With last year’s title, he joins Schrader (2008 & 2013) and another NASCAR shoe, Ty Dillon (2012 & 2014) as the only drivers with more than one DIRTcar Nationals title from 2005 to present time. The Modifieds have been a part of Volusia in February since 1996 and are an integral part of the track’s 50th anniversary celebration.

The 2017 championship battle was one of the most memorable. After Fairmont, WV’s Jacob Hawkins kicked off the 2017 DIRTcar Nationals with his first ever DIRTcar Nationals victory, it would be Hoffman scoring night number two. Brian Ruhlman — the DIRTcar Late Model and Modified ace from Clarklake, MI — briefly stopped Hoffman on night three before Hoffman rebounded and scored the next two nights. Will Krup, from Mt. Carmel, IL (Hoffman’s teammate), picked up his first-ever DIRTcar Nationals win on night six before Hoffman grabbed his third Big Gator, worth $5,000, to go with his 2012 and 2016 Big Gators.

The points battle for the 2017 title wasn’t done, though. It all came down to the final night and the Triple 15s. J.E. Stadler and Johnathan Taylor scored the first two Feature wins as the third Feature came down to Hoffman and Hawkins. Hawkins won the battle, his second feature win of the DIRTcar Nationals. Hoffman finished right behind him in second to seal his second consecutive DIRTcar Nationals Championship by just a single point over Hawkins (489-488).

Heading into the 47th annual DIRTcar Nationals, Hoffman leads the charge once again in 2018 and will see plenty of competition from the likes of Hawkins, who looks to advance one position higher in the final standings and capture his first career DIRTcar Nationals title. Brian Ruhlman has went to Victory Lane once in each of the past two years while Krup, Taylor and Stadler hope their first tastes of winning in 2017 will propel them to bigger asperations in 2018. Winners from 2016 who would like to return to victory lane include Tyler Nicely, Trent Young, Derrick Ramey and Ray Bollinger.

Two NASCAR stars who can never be counted out of any DIRTcar UMP Modified event at Volusia are Schrader and Kenny Wallace. Schrader has two career victories at the DIRTcar Nationals, but it’s been awhile, five years to be exact (2013) was the last time Schrader went to Victory Lane. It’s been even longer for Wallace. After his three-win year of 2012, the year he also won the Summit Racing Equipment Modified Nationals Championship, the St. Louis, MO veteran has gone winless at Volusia, but still ranks seventh all-time in career DIRTcar Nationals Feature wins.

One more NASCAR star, David Stremme would like to end a mini slump of sorts as the South Bend, IN driver now residing in Mooresville, NC and is the President of Lethal Chassis, has one win to his credit at Volusia. That lone checkered flag came in 2015. NASCAR Xfinity Series star, Justin Allgaier also has a single win at Volusia in 2016 and, like Stremme, would love to change that. 2017 Southeast Dirt Modified Series Champion, Billy Workman Jr., is a longtime standout at Volusia and is still in search of his first ever Volusia win and so is Stanley, NC rising star, Taylor Cook, a two-time winner in the Summit Racing Equipment Modified Nationals. That first Volusia victory has so far eluded him as well.

Chris Ferguson to Embark on Full World of Outlaws Campaign in 2018

North Carolina Driver Looks Ahead to Most Ambitious Season to Date

Mt. Holly, North Carolina (01/0218) – Chris Ferguson has spent the past few seasons getting all the pieces into place – which would allow him to take his racing program to the next level. With the 2018 season now rapidly approaching, the North Carolina racer is excited to announce that he’s prepared to tackle the national scene. (Thomas Hendrickson pic)

“With a lot of hard work by my team and amazing support from so many marketing partners, I’m excited to announce that I’ll be joining the World of Outlaws Craftsman Late Model Series as a regular for the 2018 season,” Ferguson commented on Tuesday morning. Our goal is to claim the Rookie of the Year title and finish in the Top-10 in series points.”

Ferguson previously looked to pursue the WoO tour back in 2016, but the timing wasn’t right for the talented, young driver.

“That was kind of a last-minute deal back in 2016, and honestly, we weren’t prepared,” Ferguson recounted. “We struggled out of the gate because we weren’t as ready as we needed to be, so we pulled the plug after Speedweeks. This year we are infinitely more prepared, and I couldn’t be more excited.”

Ferguson’s run at the 2018 WoO tour is being made possible with support from principal sponsors, which include Diff-Tran Machining, K and K Trucking, Live Oak Aesthetic and Family Dentistry, Champion Spark Plugs, the Christopher Reeves Southeast Foundation & Crawlspace Repair, The Racing Warehouse, and Carver and Sons Roofing.

New sponsor for 2018 – Carolina Roofing and Gutters – joins a great list of returning associate sponsors.

“It’s pretty humbling to have all these great marketing partners supporting my racing dreams,” Ferguson noted. “Without their incredible support, there’s no way that I could be taking on such a huge task. Hopefully this time next year we are talking about how successful a rookie campaign we experienced, as we are preparing for our sophomore season on the road.”

Chris will kick off his pursuit of the WoO Rookie Title on February 9-10 at Georgia’s Screven Motor Speedway. A Friday show will post an $8,000 top prize, while Saturday’s feature will offer a $10,000 top prize.

“We’ve had success at Screven Motor Speedway, so I’m hoping we can hit the ground running out of the gate with some strong runs there,” the 28-year-old racer said. “We’ve got everything we need to be successful, and now I just need to do my job. I know there will be ups and downs along the way, but I have zero doubt that my team and I are up to the challenge.”

Winter Freeze to be ran under 2017 rules package; shock announcement forthcoming

Officials with the FASTRAK Racing Series have announced that the season opening event, the Winter Freeze, at Screven Motor Speedway on February 9th and 10th will be ran under the 2017 rules package. FASTRAK holds its annual rules meeting in conjunction with the Night of Champions annual awards banquet on January 27th, just two weeks before the Winter Freeze.

“Our rules meeting is only two weeks before the Winter Freeze,” stated FASTRAK founder Stan Lester, “it just wouldn’t be fair to ask to teams to make changes that quickly.”

FASTRAK is looking to make a monumental change to the shocks and springs for 2018, in a concentrated effort to lower the costs associated with shocks. Officials have gathered information and input from shock companies, tracks, and drivers. This process culminated at the Performance Racing Industry trade show over the weekend in Indianapolis, where FASTRAK meet with several industry leaders regarding shocks. FASTRAK officials will be reviewing all information with sanctioned tracks and make a final decision in the coming week.

“We have collected a lot of information on shocks and now we have our options,” continued Lester, “we will be presenting those options to our tracks and make a decision together. We should have the answer everyone has been waiting for no later than early next week.”

Drivers and teams are encouraged to attend to the Night of Champions banquet and attend the annual rules meeting, which takes place earlier in the day on January 27th. All those wishing to attend must make their reservations at the Double Tree Park Vista in Gatlinburg, TN no later than December 26th. Attendees must also call the FASTRAK Corporate Office to reserve their tickets, which are $35 per plate.

2018 ARCA/CRA Super Series Powered by JEGS Schedule Released

Numerous High Paying Special Events on the 2018 Schedule

Salem, Indiana (December 7, 2017): Champion Racing Association Powered by JEGS has officially released the 2018 Schedule for the ARCA/CRA Super Series Powered by JEGS. The ARCA/CRA Super Series 2018 season will consist of 16 total races, with 12 of those being point events. 2018 will be the 22nd season of competition for the Template Super Late Model touring series that first raced in 1997.

“We are really excited about the 2018 schedule with the ARCA/CRA Super Series,” remarked R.J. Scott, Managing Partner of CRA. “Our 22nd season will provide our drivers with a great variety of challenging races on some of the best race tracks in the nation, with some of the most prestigious late model events in the country!”

The 2017 Chase format for determining a series champion produced more teams competing for a championship, in every CRA division, than the previous year.  Officials want to see that continue for the tracks and fans, while addressing ways to put more value in being the overall series point’s leaders. CRA will announce final changes to the Chase format for 2018 at the awards banquet on January 5th.

The 2018 racing season kicks off with the traditional non-points opener for both the ARCA/CRA Super Series and the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour with CRA SpeedFest 2018 at Watermelon Capital Speedway in Cordele, Georgia on Saturday-Sunday, January 27th & 28th. The ARCA/CRA Super Series race will be a 200 lap event, counting yellow flag laps up to lap 175. This event has traditionally attracted the best Super Late Model drivers from both the North and the South in this early season battle.

The ARCA/CRA Super Series will then kick off its 2018 point season on Saturday, April 7th at the famous Fairgrounds Speedway in Nashville. The event will be a co-sanctioned event with the Southern Super Series and the CARS Tour and the race program will include the ARCA Racing Series Presented by Menards.

The series will then head north to Toledo Speedway, located in Toledo, on Saturday, April 14th for a 100 lap event with the outlaw-bodied ARCA Late Models also having a 100 lap feature. From there the series will travel to Anderson Speedway, located in Anderson, Indiana, on Saturday, May 5th, the first of two events on the fast quarter mile oval.

The series will then head to Bristol Motor Speedway as part of the huge Second Annual Short Track U.S. Nationals, an event that will be co-sanctioned by the Southern Super Series and the CARS Tour on Saturday-Sunday May 19th & 20th. Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series driver Bubba Wallace won the inaugural U.S. Nationals of Short Track Racing Super Late Model event at the famed “last coliseum” last May.

The series will then return to Kil-Kare Speedway in Xenia, Ohio on Saturday, June 2nd. That track reopened in 2017 season after being closed the previous two seasons.

On Monday, June 11th the series will make the first of two visits to Berlin Raceway, for the $20,000 to win Money in the Bank 150. This will be a special non-points CRA sanctioned event in 2018. The series stays in Michigan for its next event at Flat Rock Speedway on Saturday, June 23rd.

On Monday, July 16th the series returns to Anderson Speedway for the famed Redbud 400. The event will return to a weekday event, the Monday after the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series event at Kentucky Speedway. The series will then head to Baer Field Motorsports Park in Fort Wayne, IN on Saturday, July 28th.

The series will head back to Kalamazoo Speedway located just outside of Kalamazoo, Michigan to be part of the famous Kalamazoo Klash event on Wednesday, August 8th. That event will be the first Chase event for the series.

The series will stay in Michigan with the Battle at Berlin 251 at Berlin Raceway on Monday, August 13th. This will be a special non-points CRA sanctioned event in 2018.

The series will then make its first of two visits to the famous High Banks of Winchester Speedway located in Winchester, Indiana for the traditional World Stock Car Festival over Labor Day Weekend, with the feature event on Monday, September 3rd. This event will be the second Chase event for the series.

The series will then head to the famed Lucas Oil Raceway, located just outside of Indianapolis, Indiana on Saturday, September 8th. As previously announced, this event will be the Speed51 Super Select, a winner-take-all invitational non-points race that will pay the winner up to $10,000.

The second visit to Toledo Speedway on Saturday, September 15th is up next for a 100 lap event as part of the famed Glass City 200, which will also include a 100 lap event for the outlaw-bodied ARCA Late Models. This event was very successful event for the series in 2017 and will be the third Chase event for the series.

The ARCA/CRA Super Series will crown their 2018 Tour Champion with the 47th Running of the prestigious Winchester 400 on Sunday, October 14th, in its second visit of the season to Winchester Speedway.
