Mods Highlight A Hot One at Ocala

OCALA, FL- The hottest day of the year so far ushered in the racers and fans to the historic Ocala Speedway on Friday night, and set the tone for hot action from the Colortyme Rentals Modifieds, Ocala’s Sportsman Division, the Tee Pee Tire Hobby Stocks, the Amsoil Synthetic Lubricants V8 Thunder Stocks, and the Gladiators.  A thunderstorm north of the track eventually cooled the air, put on quite a light show, and appeared to be moving toward the track.  But although a drop or two was reported as it blew in on the wind, it never had any effect on the racing except to make the night far more comfortable.

The Colortyme Modifieds got off to a rather rocky start with a multi car pile up in turn one, but everyone recovered from that incident and put on quite a race.  Garrett Stewart won his heat and had the pole for the feature race, and managed to lead the opening laps until Chip Owen began working him over.  Owen would snatch the lead away on lap 4 and hold it, but Jeff Mathews was coming fast and had his sights set on the #1 car at the front.  Mathews wrestled the lead away on lap 8 and held it despite repeated challenges from Chip Owen, earning himself a win.  Chip Owen would take second place behind Mathews as Kyle Owen followed Chip for third place.  Kyle Bronson and Roger Crouse rounded out the top five finishers.

Kevin Mills had the points lead going into this weekend’s Sportsman feature race, but mechanical issues had Mills sidelined by the time the race began.  So with Stanton Mills on the pole the green flag unleashed a hard charging Danny Vogel who wasted no time in bumping Mills back to second place and taking the point.  From that point nobody could touch Vogel, and he cruised to an easy victory.  Stanton Mills was tough, but settled for second place, while Augie Burttram never really found the handle on the 58 car and finished in third place.  David Ponton placed fourth, while Dewey Hall scored the fifth place finish.

Dean Jarvis and Heath Walker have become rivals of sorts with the Tee Pee Tire Hobby Stocks, but misfortunes on the track sent both of those competitors to the pits and opened the door for others to steal the spotlight.  After some early contact gave Bubba Christian’s machine a damaged nose, Christian began a deliberately patient climb through the field toward the front as Joe Boyd enjoyed leading the everyone around the track.  Daniel Miller Jr. would enter the fray and give Joe Boyd plenty to worry about, but would end up in contact with Kevin Durden in turn 4.  That incident would send Durden to the pits with a flat, and later Miller would tangle with Joe Boyd and end up in the wall, which sent him to the pits on a hook.

That opened the door for Bubba Christian, who charged to the front and held on for a win.  Brian Jerrels would make a late charge to claim second place while Tommy Ausburn followed in the third spot.  William Edwards avoided trouble and placed fourth, while Joe Boyd slipped to fifth after his incident with the 99.

The Amsoil Synthetic Lubricants V8 Thunder Stocks never fail to produce excitement when they hit the clay, and this Friday was no exception.  Scott Mooers rocketed to the early lead and looked tough to tame, and Michael Stalnaker was on the move early as he picked his way toward the front.  Polesitter Chris Shea would end up sideways in turn 2 and collect Mike McDonald and Chris Watson, which ended Watson’s quest for the night.  Stalnaker grabbed the lead away from Mooers on lap 6 and Mooers fell to 3rd before mechanical issues parked the 10 car later in the race.

After struggling with his own mechanical gremlins in recent races, Michael Stalnaker over came all of that and notched another Amsoil V8 Thunder Stock win.  Following Stalnaker across the line was Eddie Kilbury, who had been relegated to the rear of the field and fought his way back through the pack for second place.  Gordon Cade had a strong night that resulted in a third place finish, while Austin Kirkpatrick could not repeat his winning ways from last time out and settled for fourth place.  Chris Shea battled his way from a 17th starting position to round out the top five.

Ocala’s Gladiator Division has produced some very competitive racing as of late, and this Friday was no different.  Kyle morse started from the pole but was swallowed up by the field as the green flag waved and Casey Feaster shot to the lead.  Right behind Feaster was Devin Walker, who made some gutsy outside moves in an attempt to gain an advantage, but Feaster held his ground.  Walker eventually overdrove the car in his attempts to get around Feaster, allowing Steven Johnson to get position inside and send him back to third place.  Then things got worse as Walker’s car suffered a suspension failure in the rear end and left on a hook.

That left Casey Feaster in control, but after some rubbing and bumping along the way Matt Shea came blasting into the top three late in the race. David Ladrie had driven a solid race but fell victim to Shea in the final laps, as Shea then went to work on catching Feaster.  But unfortunately for Chris Shea, he was out of laps and time and Casey Feaster scored the victory.  Shea followed in second place, while David Ladrie went home with a trophy and a milestone in the form of a third place finish. Steven Johnson placed fourth, while Jerry Taylor recovered from all sorts of contact, spins, and misfortune, to finish fifth.

Friday, June 18th, brings “Father Mows Best” lawnmower racing to Ocala Speedway as some lucky dads will square off during intermission and battle with real lawnmowers.  The Late Models will be on the schedule, plus fans will see action from the Tee Pee Tire Hobby Stocks, the Mini Stocks, and the Gladiators.  For more information on next week’s racing action, visit www.OcalaSpeedway.com.

Owens Putting Pieces Together for Good Finish at MIS

CONCORD, N.C. (June 9, 2010) -When it comes to drafting, finding the right groove and carrying momentum around a race track, Alli Owens points to Michigan International Speedway (MIS) as the site that honed her skills. The lessons learned at the two-mile race track have aided Owens at nearly all venues she has traveled to since her first trip to Brooklyn, Mich. in 2008. Owens plans on showing how far she’s come since her inaugural outing.  She and her Venturini Motorsports team are ready to beat her personal best finish of 16th-place at MIS.
The No. 15 ElectrifyingCareers.com team is taking chassis No. 70 to MIS. No. 70 is a near-copy of chassis No. 80, which Owens used as her primary car at Pocono last week. Owens was fourth fastest in practice, but had an accident on her qualifying lap that forced her into a backup car.
On Wednesday, Owens will visit IBEW local union 252 in Ann Arbor, MI. Owens will have the opportunity to meet its members and thank them for the opportunity to represent them on the track.

Owens Comments on the Racing for Wildlife 200

“Michigan is a great track for up and coming drivers to learn the ropes.  So many elements come into play. It’s such a wide, fast track, so being smooth and finding the right groove are keys to a good finish. There’s so much speed there that the draft comes into play as well. You can feel your car sucking up into the car ahead of you. There are definitely a lot of things that you have to master before you can get a good finish at Michigan. That’s why it’s a great ‘learning track.’  If you do well there, you have what it takes to do well at a lot of other places, too.
“We had an awesome car last week at Pocono. We were a top-five car in practice. I knew we had a fast car and I was going for the pole. Unfortunately we wrecked on our qualifying lap.  Of course I’m disappointed, but I’m really proud of how quick we were and how well we were running.  I know that my crew is capable of giving me another awesome ElectrifyingCareers.com race car this week at Michigan. We’ll pick up there and get the finish we deserve.”

This Week’s Electrifying Job Description:

Tree Trimmer
The tree trimmer is a craft person whose responsibility is to maintain overhead lines free from natural foilage infringement. This person works extensively high above ground trimming out foilage and trees that are current or potential threats. He patrols lines reguarly, watching for new growth.

Team Car Warz Hits Home Run at Holland Speedway

by Team Car Warz Media (Jane Smith)

Holland, NY (June 5, 2010)  Despite weather forecasters calling for thunder storms in the greater Buffalo area Saturday night. The bad weather that was expected cleared out around noon and the “Team Car Wars” Fans turned out in droves. A near record crowd of close to 6000 fans packed the grandstands of Holland Speedway in Holland, New York for the night of all out destruction and that’s exactly what they got !!!
Over 90 drivers from all over the country including drivers from Florida, Ohio, Pa, New York and several drivers from Canada filled the pit area with nearly 125 cars. The first event of the night was the compact enduro that produced a 70 car field. The cars were lined up 3 wide and 23 rows back that stretched from the start finish line all the way into turn 3.
When the green flag dropped the mayhem began! 4 red flags were thrown during the 75 lap race and when all the dust settled it would be the #7 car driven by Bob Wodzinski that would pick up the victory and the $3250 First prize money.
In The Chain Race it was the unlikely combination of Arcade New York’s Jay Murphy and Orlando Driver William Hindman who would take the checkered flag first.
The Flagpole race had a 25 car field. One red was thrown when the #42 of Matt Windsor made contact with another car going down the back stretch and flipped over in turn 3 nearly going over the guard rail. Matt did get out of his Ford ranger on his own but was latter transported to a local medical center were he was treated for a mild concussion . Thankfully Matt was released the next day and is reported to be doing well. When the checkered flag flew it was Orlando Florida’s Jim Erb who would win the race.
The Motor home Demo Derby was hugely popular with the fans at Holland Speedway pitting 2 drivers from Florida and 3 From the Buffalo NY area. For a while it looked like Holland’s own Marty Hughes was going to win but in the end it was Depew NY driver Chris Ardenski who delivered several bone jarring hits to Hughes army green M-1 pinning Hughes up on a barrier. Ardenski had the crowd on their feet as he delivered the final blows to claim the win.
The School bus figure 8 race which is always a crowd favorite proved to be extremely exciting with Holland Speedway’s track champion Marty Hughes and the M-1 tank found him self starting in the rear of the field directly behind Orlando Speed world champions Jim Erb and William Hindman.
Erb driving a bus owned by Arcade NY’s Jay Murphy was able to work his way through the field with William Hindman right on his back bumper and Hughes himmed up in traffic . After several close calls in the X Erb and his black bus found him self in the lead and Hindman in 2nd place with Hughes and the M-1 closing fast. With 3 laps left in the 15 lap feature Orlando’s William Hindman #32 bus started over heating and had to pull out of the race moving the M-1 of Hughes into 2nd place ½ of a lap down to the leader. In the end it Was Florida’s Jim Erb who claim the $1000.00 1st.place prize money.
The Boat & Trailer race saw a 21 boat starting field and as you would expect the track soon looked like a tornado had hit a boat yard. Every time a boat would come off and get hit the crowd would scream louder. When it was all done Depew NY Driver Chris Ardenski would bring his # 88 machine home with the win.
The night was caped off with a 33 car front wheel drive demo derby that lasted 29 min. after 2 red flags for rollovers the #30 of Tyler Haniszewski that looked like it had been run through a crusher was still running and Tyler would get the win and the $500.00.

The “Team Car Warz” crew would like to thank everyone involved in making the show such a huge success and we will see all of you September 11th.
