Fitzgerald, GA. (August 4, 2010) George L Thompson, 39 years old and former owner of Cordele Motor Speedway in Cordele, Georgia passed away today at his home after a long and hard fought battle with cancer.

 Mr. Thompson was born on October 18, 1970 in Fitzgerald, Georgia and spent most of his life in that town. Mr. Thompson was the General Manager of Transhaul, Inc. in Douglas, Georgia.   He graduated from Fitzgerald High School in 1989 and further his education at Ben Hill-Irwin Technical College where he received a degree in telecommunications

.Mr. Thompson was a former member of the Georgia Air National Guard and he and his wife Gina were avid race fans and at one time were the proud owners of Cordele Motor Speedway. Mr. Thompson maintained an active involvement with the Christian Tabernacle Church. He enjoyed fishing and loved spending time with his family and friends. Funeral services will be held 11 A.M., Saturday, August 7, 2010 at the Paulk Funeral Home Chapel in Fitzgerald with Rev. Earlie Holt officiating. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receiver friends from 7 to 9 PM Friday evening at the funeral home in Fitzgerald.

 Mr. Thompson is survived by his beloved wife Gina Young Thompson. Other survivors are his son, Garrett Burch, his daughter, Deanna Thompson,and his mother, Rudine N. Thompson all of Fitzgerald.  His sister and brother-in-law, Elizabeth & Terry Roberts of Dahlonega; brothers and sisters-in-law, Edward & Marilyn Thompson and Dwight & Linda Thompson all of Fitzgerald and several nieces and nephews.
