BARBERVILLE, FL-  Race fans might have noticed some new faces and names making appearances with the Daytona Dodge Chrysler Jeep Late Models more often, as racers such as Jack Nosbisch, Darrell Padgett, Johnny Collins, Ivedent Lloyd, and Mark Whitener, are choosing to race at the south’s fastest half mile.  And while any of these racers might make an appearance on any given night that the Late Models are scheduled to race, there is a reason that they all chose to spend this past Saturday night racing in Barberville.  They are getting some seat time in preparation for the Annual Scott Thompson Memorial, scheduled for June 25th and 26th at Volusia Speedway Park, and will have just one more shot at some seat time this weekend before the race arrives just one week later.

The Scott Thompson Memorial, featuring the United Dirt Late Model Challenge Series, will attract the top names in dirt late model racing, and will pay $3800 to the winner. The weekend will begin with an open practice for all divisions on Friday, June 25th, from 6PM until 9PM.  Then on Saturday, June 26th, the pit gate will open at 2PM for all race teams, and practice will begin at 6:15.  The grandstands will open to fans at 5:30PM and racing will begin at 7:30.

Fans will see plenty of exciting competition throughout qualifying, heat races, and B mains, plus the 50 lap Scott Thompson Memorial.  But they will also be treated to bonus action from the Taylor Racing Products Sportsman Division, the Daytona Sportswear Street Stocks, and from the hard driving Amsoil Synthetic Lubricants Thunder Stocks, three of the most exciting divisions at Volusia Speedway Park.

And while racing might be the main draw to come and enjoy a special night at Volusia Speedway Park, fans will also be in competition against some of the racers and other fans.  Volusia Speedway Park will be awarding prizes in a “Best Tailgate” competition, and there will be a rib eating contest held on the front stretch during the intermission between heats and feature races.  All of that, plus a fireworks display to complement the fireworks on the racetrack!

Interested racers may contact The United Dirt Late Model Challenge Series or Volusia Speedway Park for more information, and race fans are invited to visit www.VolusiaSpeedwayPark.net for additional details and directions to the south’s fastest half mile.
