PRO LATE MODELS AND MODIFIEDS HIGHLIGHT WEEK THREE OF NASCAR ACTION AT ORLANDO SPEEDWORLD

20130417-190958.jpgOrlando SpeedWorld returns to action this Friday night with six classes being featured during the third week of racing under the NASCAR Whelan All American Series banner.
The Pro Late Models return for their second race of the year and will be
joined by the Modifieds, Sportsman cars, Super Stocks, Strictly Stocks and the Bandoleros.
Alan Bruns topped the Pro Late Model field two weeks ago despite a balky shifter that gave him fits midway through the race while the Modifieds ran their first feature last week with local veteran Shane Held dominating the action and he hopes to make it two in a row this week. Young Daniel Conlin, Jr. will be out to score back-to-back wins in the Sportsman class after driving to victory on opening night in his first-ever race behind the wheel of a full-bodied stock car. TRAVIS COPE DESTROYS BRIGHT HOUSE CHALLENGE SLM FIELD AT ORLANDO SPEEDWORLD

20130413-204308.jpgWeek number two of NASCAR Whelan All American Series action saw some outstanding competition on a warm, muggy night as second-generation driver Travis Cope of Weeki Wachee proved dominant in the headline race of the night, the Bright House Challenge 100 for the Super Late Models.
A dozen Super Lates checked in for action with Orlando’s David Rogers, the defending and four-time Bright House Series champion, setting quick time at 13.765 seconds, just ahead of Daniel Keene, Jr.’s 13.782 lap. Rogers pulled the three pill placing third-fast qualifier Dusty Cornelius of Cocoa on the pole for the 100-lap feature race.
Cornelius shot out from his pole slot into a rather substantial early lead as Rogers slipped by Keene but was not able to match the speed of Cornelius. Meanwhile, Travis Cope had moved to third and was putting the pressure on Rogers, eventually getting by the veteran and now having his sights set on the leader. Cope quickly cut the deficit between himself and Cornelius in half, then seemed to back off a bit to save his tires as the race continued under green.

BLACK TOPS LEGEND CARS – FRYE FRIES SUPER STOCK FIELD AS ORLANDO SPEEDWORLD OPENS 2013 SEASON

[slideshow id=2]Orlando SpeedWorld returned to action Friday night and fans were treated to a
good night of racing despite some unseasonably chilly temperatures and a cold
wind.
A dozen Legend Cars made the trip to the high-banked three-eighths mile with
Dakota Baggette and Jordan Black winning the pair of heat races.
Dave “Too Tall” Gleason grabbed the early advantage at the start of the 25-lap
feature but caution flew at the end of lap one for a three car tangle in turn
one involving Robbie Lyons, Tony Steinbuck and Joey Langis.  Lyons got a good
piece of the concrete and was eliminated from competition while Steinbuck and
Langis continued.
Baggette sped around Gleason on the restart and began to build a good-sized
lead while Black got around Gleason for third on the fifth lap and set sail
after the leader.  Black was on a rail and passed Baggette for the top spot on
lap 14, then led the remaining distance to score the victory.  Baggette
claimed second with Gleason third.  Becca Monopoli made a late pass to take
fourth spot ahead of Keith Sinkula.  Donovan Ponder took the checker in sixth
with Noah Cornman, Steinbuck, Langis, Ted Ruffo, Roger Englund and Lyons
rounding out the finishers. (more…)

ORLANDO SPEEDWORLD BACK IN ACTION STARTING FRIDAY

OrlandoSpeedworldLogoOrlando SpeedWorld returns to racing action this Friday night, April 5 for its 39th year of operation. The three-eighths-mile track located in Bithlo, FL between Orlando and the Cocoa/Titusville area on Florida’s East Coast began operation in April of 1974. SpeedWorld is now sanctioned for the first time since the mid-1970s by NASCAR as part of the Wheelen All American Series.

The facility is now being operated by Ozzy and Maria Moya who have been running the Lakeland Dragstrip for several years. This is their first venture into oval-track promotion and they recently also took over operation of the Orlando SpeedWorld Dragway as well. The drag strip located next door to the oval track has been in operation since late-1963.Wes Railing recently took over the chores of General Manager at the oval track and he has been aggressively working to get the facility in shape for the season opener.

Recently, Railing has been operating the Bithlo Mud Bog track located to the east of the SpeedWorld complex. Overall, SpeedWorld’s oval track has seen quite a few improvements made over recent weeks including new paint just about everywhere, a re-vamping and cleaning of the concession area, new fencing and much more. One area that needed attention was the entrance/exit from the track that now has a brand-new concrete surface.

In order to speed up the program, victory lane has been moved to the pit area where winning drivers will receive their trophies and have their pictures taken.

Pro Late Model 100 Orlando Speedworld – 13th April 2012

By Andy Sandall – FASCAR Media

It’s often said that Friday 13th can make racers do strange things out on the track, but at Orlando Speedworld it seemed to bring out the best in the drivers as they put on a great show across 7 senior divisions and treated the fans to some great racing. Headlining the show would be the 100 lap race for Pro Late Models, but the regular divisions had their fair share of thrills and spills too.

The Pro Late Models are a new division for 2012, representing an updated version of the old Limited Late Model class. Fast qualifier #36 Devin McLeod, his number identifying him as the latest driver to sit in the car made famous by Tim Russell, would start on the front row alongside #127 Kyle Maynard. With the dropping of the green flag it would take the teenager McLeod rake until just the third turn to be in lead with Maynard and #27 Bobby Good dropping behind him. (more…)
