Ocala Says Thanks to the Fans and Racers | by BJ Cavin
ZUBER, FL- Just two years ago at this time, the oldest speedway in Florida was in serious danger of being lost. As an asphalt track, Ocala Speedway was losing fans and racers and the prognosis was anything but promising. But Mike Peters had a bold idea to put 14 inches of high quality gumbo clay over the asphalt and take Ocala Speedway back to its dirt racing roots, and today it is one of the top tracks in the state.
Mike Peters has long pondered a way to thank the racers, fans, and staff, that have helped him make Ocala Speedway into a nationally recognized success story, and this Friday night he will express his gratitude by giving the racers and fans the best show that he can. October 9th is "Fan Appreciation Night" at Ocala Speedway as all grandstand tickets will be just $8 with kids 12 and under admitted free of charge. But it is what those fans will see for just $8 that is raising eyebrows, and getting the attention of racers from three divisions.
Fan Appreciation Night features a $2000 to win Late Model race that has already attracted the top competitors, with a virtual who's who of dirt late model racing committed to being there. In addition to the late model race, Peters has added a $1000 to win Hobby Stock race and a $1000 to win Amsoil V8 Thunder Stock race as well. That is three big money races in one night, plus racing action from the Gladiator division. And not only will the fans get an awesome show, but there will be food and drink specials throughout the night, plus door prizes to the first 100 fans to enter the grandstands.
The Ocala Speedway pit gate will open at 2PM and the grandstand gate will open at 5PM. Hot Laps are scheduled for 7PM with the heats and B-mains following at 8PM. For directions or more information fans can visit www.OcalaSpeedway.com, or call the track at 352-622-9400. Have an opinion on
