Two Days and Counting until 43rd Annual Governor's Cup 200 at New Smyrna Speedway | by Jane Smith
Samsula, FL (November 20, 2008) The clock is ticking down until Saturday when the 43rd Annual Governor's Cup 200 runs at New Smyrna Speedway along with the exciting Southern Sportsman Shootout 75. Plus not only will there be champions crowned for the Noritz/Tempaco Sunbelt Super Late Model Series and the Southern Sportsman Series but also the 2008 Triple Crown Champion.
"We are really excited about this year's Governor's Cup," said Don Nerone. "It looks to be a great day for both Super Lates and Sportsman and for the fans."
This year's Grand Marshall will be Joie Anderson, County Commissioner for Volusia County. Hopefully also in attendance will be newly elected House Representative Bill Posey who has not missed a Governor's Cup race in many years.
In a note sent from Bill Posey to Jane Smith, Media Specialist for FASCAR Tours, Posey wrote, "It is still up in the air as to whether or not I will get home for the Governor's Cup. Went to half of them at Golden Gate and have not missed a single one since it came to NSS."
Posey has been instrumental every year at the Govenor's Cup where in 2001 he introduced Governor Jeb Bush to the fans and his personal friend and Governor's Bush friend Patrick D. Smith in 2002.
Leading the points for the Triple Crown is Jermey Colangelo who holds a one point lead over Brian Finney. Finney, who won the first leg of the Triple Crown at USA International on June 7, finished sixth in the second leg as David Rogers took the win in the final race ever at USA International.
Colangelo currents leads the points for the Series with Finney fourth in points. 2007 Champion Tim Russell stands only 13 points behind Colangelo and still has hope of repeating his Championship.
Leading the points for the Southern Sportsman Series is Patrick Thomas who has a 141 point lead over Bart Weatherford. A good number of Sportsman are expected for the Southern Sportsman Shootout 75. Rules can be found at www.fascartours.com for Saturday's special event.
There will be an open practice for both Super Lates and Sportsman on Friday night from 6 to 9 pm. Cost is $10.00 per person and grandstands will be free to the fans. The concession stands will be closed so bring your own drinks and food for practice.
On Saturday, November 22nd, the pit gate will open at 8 am with practice for the Super Lates from 12 noon to 1:30 pm. Sportsman practice will follow from 1:40 pm to 2:20 pm.
