Ocala Speedway wraps up the 2008 divisional racing season this Friday night with two major races! The Late Models will be returning to Ocala Speedway as to do battle for double points, and the Hobby Stocks will have a go at $1000 to the winner thanks to Dr. B's of Ocala. Completing the night's racing action will be the Amsoil V8 Thunder Stocks, the Market of Marion Mini Stocks, and the Gladiators.
Forty-three points separate Shane Williams from Shan Smith in the Late Model points standings, and with double points on the line this Friday night's Late Model race should be a showdown. A full field of Late Models is expected for the final race of the season at Ocala, and if past Late Model races are any indication the action should be fast and the competition furious!
Hobby Stock racers will be getting an added bonus on Friday thanks to Dr. B's of Ocala, as the final Hobby Stock race of the season has suddenly become a make up for the rained out race in the six pack series. Dr. B's stepped in and offered to sponsor the race, and Ocala Speedway owner Mike Peters was more than happy to accept the offer. David Miller Jr. is the current points leader going into the final race, but Grady Christian has closed the gap on Miller with a win two weeks ago, and is charging hard into the final week of racing. Throw in a $1000 payout to the winner and there looks to be another showdown!
Guy Bacelo Jr. has come on strong late in the season to distance himself from Paul Hahn in the Gladiator Division points race. But two newcomers have walked in and stolen wins from the frontrunners the last two weeks at Ocala Speedway, so anything is possible. Anyone could wind up the winner this week as the Gladiators wrap up their 2008 season.
Keith Briggs has already walked away the 2008 Champion in the Market of Marion Mini Stock Division, and last week he added an exclamation point to that with a convincing win after some late season struggles. But Paul Combast is still running strong and hopes to upset Briggs one final time in 2008.
The 2008 Championship is also a done deal for the Amsoil V8 Thunder Stocks, but despite that the racing last week was as aggressive as ever. This Friday night should be no different as a full field of Thunder Stocks roar through the turns for their final outing of the year.
This will be the final night of racing at Ocala Speedway in 2008 and a capacity crowd is expected to watch the action before the offseason kicks in. The pit gate will open at 2 PM, and the grandstand gate and ticket office will open at 5 PM. Heat races get underway at 8PM.
Tickets are on sale for the 2008 Ocala Speedway Banquet of Champions and can be purchased until November 28th at the speedway office. The Banquet of Champions will be held on Friday, December 5th, from 5 PM until at the speedway. Fans are also reminded that Ocala Speedway will have a Speedweek Event in January, featuring the O'Reilly All Star 410 Sprint Cars on January 29th, 30th, and 31st.
