Joie Alexander Named 2008 Grand Marshall for 43rd Annual Governor's Cup 200 at New Smyrna Speedway | FASCAR MEDIA
Samsula, FL (November 15, 2008) With the 43rd Annual Governor's Cup 200 right around the corner on Novembe 22nd, New Smyrna Speedway has announced that Volusia County Commissioner Joie Alexander has been named the 2008 Grand Marshall.
Alexander is no stranger to New Smyrna Speedway or racing as she has visited the track quite a few times. From 1978 to 1999 she was employed by the School District of Volusia County where she served as Principal of Samsula Elementary School, Director of Personnel, Staff Development Specialist and Department Chair/Teacher at Deland High School.
In 1999, Ms. Alexander was named Elementary Principal of the Year by the Florida Art Education Association of the State of Florida.
Ms. Alexander has had a wide variety of Government experience from Board member and treasurer for the Florida Assocation of Counties Foundation to past board member of the Central Florida MPO Alliance. Community Service has been a big part of Ms. Alexander's life and she has served on many boards including Vice President of Government Affairs, Crime Stoppers of NE Florida and Vice President of Government Affairs for the Boys and Girls Clubs of America.
At Georgia Southern University, Ms. Alexander received a bachelor's degree in Business Education and a Master's Degree in Business. She also received a specialist degree in Educational Leadership from Nova University.
In 1977, Ms. Alexander moved to Volusia County making DeLand, New Smyrna Beach and the Port Orange area home. She has one daughter Andrea and four beautiful grandchildren.
