Jermey Colangelo with Mark Martin Development for 2009, Will Test the Super Late Model Waters around the Southeast | 2008 has been a very remarkable year for Jeremy Colangelo. After signing as a development driver for NASCAR legend Mark Martin, Colangelo backed it up with countless strong runs, including a pair of victories that could propel him to a Late Model Championship. Because of those performances, team owner Mark Martin has decided to have Colangelo return as his development driver at Mark Martin Performance for 2009. The focus will remain the same, as the team will run some of the bigger Super Late Model events in the country.
“There isn’t a day that goes by that I am not thankful for what I have,” said Colangelo. “It’s pretty much been a dream come true, driving for Mark Martin and winning races. In 2009, we will have the opportunity to step up to the plate with the best in the Super Late Model ranks.”
Team owner Mark Martin is moving to Hendrick Motorsports for a full season of competition in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series in 2009. Now Martin hopes to bring Colangelo along to the next level in Super Late Model racing.
“In 2008, Jeremy (Colangelo) not only ran good, but never tore up any of the racecars,” said Martin. “He is real good at knowing his racecar and what he can get out of it on that day. He will be even that much stronger in 2009.”
Martin also expressed the plans for the 2009 season, which will bring new things to both the team and Colangelo.
“As an owner, all I can do is give him what he needs; then it's up to him. He has not let me down yet. We plan on taking him to some races out of the state of Florida. We plan on running different racetracks to get him some more experience on other tracks around the country.”
Colangelo will run the balance of the FASCAR Sunbelt Super Late Model season in 2009. Along with those events, he will also run the Blizzard Series at Five Flags Speedway in Pensacola, Florida. Other Super Late Model events will include the Snowball Derby and the All American 400, in Nashville, TN. Other events could be added to their schedule as well.
“Mark (Martin) told us we need to get a win at Nashville,” added Colangelo. “A few years back he was leading the All American 400, and his brakes went out with a few laps to go and he ended up second. So it would be really cool to get one for the team and for Mark.”
The full schedule for Jeremy Colangelo and the Mark Martin Performance race team will be released in the next few weeks. In the meantime, Colangelo will focus on winning the Sunbelt Super Late Model series championship.
