Ocala Speedway Welcomes the ASCS Rebel Region | by BJ Cavin
This Friday night, November 14th, is Bud Zone Night at Ocala Speedway, and features the ASCS Rebel Region Sprint Cars racing on the clay in beautiful downtown Zuber. This will be the second of two appearances for the ASCS sprints at Ocala, and the last one of 2008. In addition to the ASCS sprint cars, three weekly racing divisions will renew the chase for their respective points championships.
The ASCS Sprint Series will provide the fastest and most exciting racing of the season at Ocala Speedway. These alcohol burning, high horsepower machines, are more maneuverable and far faster than any other type of race car that appears at Ocala during the season, and fans will arrive early in order to get the best seats in the grandstands. The grandstand gates will open at 5PM with practice laps scheduled for 7 PM. Heat races begin at 8 PM with feature races to follow. Special event pricing will be in effect for the ASCS sprints at Ocala Speedway.
Keith Briggs has already all but locked up the 2008 Championship in the Market of Marion Mini Stock Division, making it potentially the first ever for Briggs or the Extreme Racing Team. But that will not stop Paul Combast from attempting to make it four in a row over Briggs and the rest of the Mini Stock field and they hit the clay on Friday night. Combast has come on strong late in the season and hopes to continue his winning ways into 2009.
The championship is almost a done deal in the Amsoil V8 Thunder Stocks as James Sealey has opened up a 200 plus point lead on his nearest challenger. Despite Sealey's lead, the V8 Thunder Stock Division has provided some of the most exciting and tough racing of any division in 2008, and that trend undoubtedly will continue Friday night. The Thunder Stocks have also delivered more different winners than any other division at Ocala Speedway this year, which goes to show why that division is such a crowd favorite.
And Guy Bacelo Jr still holds the points lead with the Gladiator Division, but his competition is much closer and well within reach of knocking Bacelo out of the top spot. Second place challenger Paul Hahn has stepped it up late in the season and is making a furious run at the 2008 Championship, and not letting Guy Bacelo get in the way. Despite their battle, the last race was dominated by a first timer who upset both frontrunners for the points crown. Jumpin' Jim made his first appearance at Ocala after racing all season at Putnam County Speedway, and had no problem finding his way to a win.
Only one more week of divisional racing remains in 2008 at Ocala Speedway after this Friday night as the Late Models and Pepsi Hobby Stocks will return to the clay on November 21st.
