Alli Owens Looking Forward to Daytona | Owens Racing Press Release
Daytona Beach, FL (01/08/08) – When Alli first climbed into a quarter midget car at Little New Smyrna Speedway six years ago, she dreamed of the day she would race at Daytona International Speedway. That dream will come true next month as Alli gets ready for the "ARCA 200" scheduled for Saturday afternoon, February 9th, 2008. The event will be broadcast live on SPEED at 4 pm eastern and will serve as a show-opener for the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series All-Star race, the Budweiser Shootout, which is scheduled to be run later on that same night.
For the 2008 ARCA season, Alli will team up with Mario Gosselin and the DGM Racing team. Two weeks ago Alli traveled with the team to Daytona for a couple of days of testing and practice. After turning laps at 180 miles per hour, she couldn’t get the smile off her face. "On my first lap, by the time I got to the backstretch, I already knew my car was the best stock car I'd ever driven," she said. Running a Chevrolet prepared by Lake Wales-based DGM Racing, the Atlantic High grad posted top-16 times in the 178-180 mph range through the weekend. She clocked the 16th best (178.359 mph) speed of the 38 cars testing Sunday. Alli won’t have much time to rest before the Daytona race since the team is planning to go to Talladega later this month for some more testing.
Alli’s primary sponsor is a joint development by The National Electrical Contractors Association NECA and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers IBEW making up www.ElectrifyingCareers.com. With sections geared toward students, parents and guidance counselors, the site offers descriptions of nearly 60 different electrical jobs, provides information on educational and training options and includes video testimonials from successful young people in the electrical trade. The site received a Gold Award in the 2006 Best of the Web Awards competition sponsored by Building Design + Construction.
"We are very thankful for the support we have, but we’re always looking new associate sponsors who can benefit by all that we have to offer. Sponsors make this all possible.
