Sean Murphy Re-Signs with SS-Green Light Racing to Drive NASCAR Truck Series & ASA Late Model Challenge Series | Sean Murphy Ready for Second Season of ASA and Return to NASCAR Truck Series Mooresville, NC (Tuesday January 8, 2008) 2007 ASA Late Model Series Rookie of the Year Sean Murphy, will return to SS Racing in 2008 under the new team joint-venture SS-Green Light Racing. Murphy will focus on the ASA Late Model Series - Challenge Division Championship. In addition the team has promoted Murphy to their NASCAR Craftsman Truck Team, where he’ll race six events. Murphy raced with Green Light Racing in the NASCAR Truck Series for fifteen races spanning from 2004-2006. He then signed with SS Racing in 2007, where he compiled 4-fast times, 3-track records, a mass of top fives and finished 4th in the overall championship in addition to taking the Rookie of the Year title.
Team co-owner Ken Smith, noted that re-signing Murphy was one of their first objectives in the new joint-venture. “Sean is a great young talent,” stated Smith. “He’s a very smart driver, who shows a great deal of maturity in the racecar for his age and experience. We’re glad to have him back with us in 2008. He is one of the key players to our new team.”
Smith’s statements were echoed by co-owner Bobby Dotter. “Sean raced with Green Light Racing in the past and he’s a great guy to work with. He saves the equipment and doesn’t drive over his head,” said Dotter. “In this new joint-venture there are a lot of exciting things happening, having Sean back to the truck series definitely adds to that excitement.”
SS-Green Light Racing is also proud to announce the return of 2007 sponsors ASI Limited, Akzo Nobel, Aluminum Shapes and Spectrum Metal Finishing. Murphy will pilot the group of strategic sponsors for six-races in both the no. 08 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series Chevy Silverado, and all Challenge Division races in the no.32 Chevy ASA Late Model. Last year Murphy came so close to winning races and the overall championship in the ASA Late Model Series that he hoped to make another run at it. But he also was seeking a return to NASCAR’s Truck Series. He was granted both wishes.
“This was a great late Christmas present for me,” said Murphy. “I am anxious to go back and chase the ASA title. But also am equally anxious to get back to truck racing. It’s such a tough game in racing and I think to get established with a team and keep building year after year is important for the team and driver. Re-signing with SS-Green Light Racing provides us that advantage. We already know each other and can pick up where we left off last year.”
“It’s a good feeling to have the agreement behind us and now I can completely focus on racing in 2008,” added Murphy, who is planning a personal move from Ft. Lauderdale, Florida to Mooresville, North Carolina so he can be near the race shop and living in the heart of the motorsports industry. “It’s going to be a fun year.”
