Trademark Metal Recyclers, Own My Travel, and ABC Towing Sponsors Spice Big SpeedWorld Weekend | by Dave Westerman
It will certainly be the biggest weekend of racing so far this year at Orlando Speedworld this Friday and Saturday night and the action is expected to be as hot as weather.
Sponsorships are what fuel racing right now and three have come on board to help make things even more interesting this week.
Trademark Metal Recyclers (TMR), a sponsor on young David Pollen, Jr.'s Super Late Model are adding a substantial amount of cash to the Super Late Model feature race this Friday night. Because of this, the Super Late Models will qualify and run an extra-distance 35 lap event.
Also on tap is the 50 lap Mini Stock special which fell victim to rain a few weeks ago. However a bit of a "twist" has been added to this one by Orlando-based Own My Travel. Only two drivers, Pedie Allison and R.J. Arnone, have graced victory lane in the Mini Stock class so far in 2007.
In order to drum up some interest in the 50 lap show-down for the class that has been suffering car-count-wise this year, Own My Travel will offer an extra $100 to anyone who can beat Allison or Arnone. The only catch is that at least one of the two drivers must be running at the finish of the race. Also, after some rules questions that were brought up last week, only thirteen inch wheel/tires can be used by the Mini Stock cars.
Own My Travel, which just started business in March of this year, boasts over 1,000 members already who can now book their travel through Global Vacation Escapes (www.gve123.com) at guaranteed lowest prices. Members not only get great discounted vacations, but also earn commissions each time they travel and by turning other people on to the advantages of OMT.
Along with the Super Late Model and Mini Stock specials, all regular FASCAR classes will be in action including the Modifieds, Sportsman, Super Stocks, Junior Stocks and Action Gator Tire Strictly Stocks. And, if that's not enough, The Legends Cars and Bandoleros will be running as well on Friday night to make-up for some missed dates due to inclement weather.
Grandstand gates open at 6 pm with qualifying for Super Late Models and Mini Stocks at 7pm. Racing starts at 8 pm. Adult admission will only be $10 for this huge show and all kids 11 and under get in absolutely free.
A big crowd is expected because the Friday night FASCAR drivers have been competing to see who can bring in the most fans this week. Each driver was handed a certain amount of free tickets to give away. The driver bringing in the most new fans will get a cool 100 dollar bill.
Saturday's racing action will feature a no-holds-barred winner-take-all feature race for the ABC Towing Hurricane class. The Hurricanes are exactly the same thing as Friday's Action Gator Tire Strictly Stocks - only the name is different. However, this week the class sponsors are really stepping up things to a new level.
ABC Towing and it's owner Doug Webb are putting up $250 cash to the winner along with 4 tickets to the Full Speed NASCAR Simulator which is part of the New Fun Spot Action Park at the Old Town Complex on U.S. Highway 192 in Kissimmee. The winner will also be awarded a set of die-cut numbers for the winning race car. But that's not all. The race winner will also receive a $200 gift certificate courtesy of Action Gator Tire Stores and their racing representative Dan "Ice Cream" Jones.
Along with the big race for the Hurricanes, there will be plenty of other action on tap. The Legends Cars and Bandoleros will also go back-to-back after running on Friday plus the Pro Challenge Cars and the Daytona Antique Auto Racing Association will make their monthly visit to the track joining regular weekly racers, the Orlando Classics and Outlaw Strictly Stocks for another huge program.
Again, adult admission is just $10 and kids 11 and under get in free. Race time is 7pm.
