Seeright Sets Sights On South Georgia for ASA Late Models | by Amy Hayes, Dream Motorsports
HAINES CITY, Fla.– Michael Seeright seems to have the state of Georgia on his mind lately. For the second time this month, Seeright and his Dream Motorsports team will head to the Peach State to compete in the ASA Late Model South division event. But this time he won’t be heading to Watermelon Capital Speedway; he has his mind set on South Georgia Motorsports Park.
“South Georgia looks like a pretty fun track to go to,” said Seeright. “I am pretty excited. I have never been there, but it looks like a lot of fun. It is a newer track, and from what I can tell, it looks like a really nice and professional facility.
“I haven’t heard too many of the other competitors talk about it. I know a lot of the guys that are from Florida haven’t raced there yet. It is just all up in the air for us there when we go. You just have to hope that you bring the right stuff.”
The 2007 ASA Late Model Season is also Seeright’s rookie season, and for the first two events Seeright had the luck of having experience on the two tracks. South Georgia Motorsports Park, in Valdosta Georgia, will be his first attempt at a track that he has yet to see.
“We aren’t gong to do any testing in advance; we are just going to take advantage of the Friday practice that they give us. Most of the tracks that we race at this season will be new to us, so it isn’t too intimidating. We are starting to get used to the idea of it.”
The new tracks don’t seem to bother his team either.
“I think that we adapt well to new tracks. We are still a new team, and we are learning a lot with the car. It takes us sometimes a little while longer to learn things at new tracks because we are still trying to learn the car as well, and that could be a benefit at times, too, but I think that we adapt pretty well.”
One of the most enjoyable things for Seeright and his team is the fact that South Georgia is not too far from Seeright’s home state of Florida.
“It’s nice to have these races that are close to home; it’s only a couple of hours away,” added Seeright. “It is a lot better for us now than it will be when we head to the Midwest later this summer. Then we will have some 24-hour drives. It makes it a lot easier to not have to go that far, and I am really looking forward to heading to New Smyrna later this season. That one is going to be like a home track for us.
“Our goal this weekend is that I would like to get a good solid finish and get up to the top 10 in points. We had some bad luck at our last race, so this time our goal is to try and keep the car out of the concrete, and as long as we do that we should be good to go.”
The next event for the ASA Late Model South Series will be held on Saturday, June 2nd, at South Georgia Motorsports Park. Have an opinion on
