Are you an Open Wheel Modified Fan? This is the Weekend for You | by Rick Warren
This is a weekend of racing that any fan of the open wheel brand of excitement won’t want to miss!
Friday night at Orlando Speedworld the *Extreme Modified Series* will be in town to run on Orlando’s High Banks. The *Extreme* Series, with it’s added aero package, and tons of Horsepower, should be well suited to lay down some very fast laps at Orlando. After the first race of the series at Columbia Motorsports Park, (won by Jason Garver), series director Rick Hall has been fielding numerous telephone calls from drivers anxious to race in the series. Drivers such as Robbie Cooper, Lee Collins, Alan McCafferty are looking for strong runs to add to their points total after the Lake City race. Orlando and New Smyrna regulars Jerry Symons, Tank Tucker, and others are also expected to race in the series.
The track at Orlando is very well suited to the modifieds, and expectations are high for a very exciting race.
Saturday Night, the *Gulfcoast Modified Series* will return to Bronson Motor Speedway, in a race rescheduled due to bad weather two weeks ago. The *Gulfcoas*t series always puts on a highly competitive race, and the races the series has run at Bronson have not lacked for excitement.
The season opener at Ocala was a real barn burner, with Robbie Cooper and Wayne “Rocketman” Jefferson battling for 50 laps, with Cooper taking the win. Last years champion, Lee Collins, has always been fast at Bronson, and has plans to grab his first series win of the 2007 season. Cooper, who claims Bronson as his home track, has won several division championships, and many feature races on the track at Bronson. Cooper is looking to make it two wins in a row with his “home track” experience.
Curtis Neumann and Andrew Alderman both have made big strides in their young racing careers, and both have made their presence known on the track.
With solid consistent runs under their belts, nobody will be surprised to see these young guns racing for the win.
This promises to be an action packed, exciting 50 lap shoot out. Open Wheel fans, this weekend is for you. Get your open wheel excitement “fix” this weekend *with not one but two great open wheel races!* Load up the wife and kids and head out for some great racing fun. Hope to see you there!
