| Southern Raceway Hosts ASCS Coastal vs. Rebel Region Showdown | by Lonnie Wheatley
TULSA, Okla. (May 7, 2007) The American Sprint Car Series Coastal and Rebel Region will square off for the second time this season with Saturday night's $2,000 to win showdown at Southern Raceway in Milton, FL.
Louisiana's Michael Dupuy leads the ASCS Coastal Region forces into the event, with Florida's Tyler Godwin leading the ASCS Rebel Region troops.
Both new ASCS Regions have kicked off the 2007 season in competitive fashion, with no repeat winners in either Region.
Marshall Skinner, Michael Dupuy, Jason Johnson, Gary Wright and Travis Rilat have each visited victory lane in a handful of ASCS Coastal Region outings, with Skinner and Wade Oliver victorious in ASCS Rebel Region action. Skinner scored in the season-opening Coastal vs. Rebel Region showdown at Loxley, AL.
Dupuy has broken out to an early 16-point lead over Michael Herrington in the ASCS Coastal Region championship points race, with Robert Casada, Chris Sweeney, Todd Fayard, Shane Morgan, Timmy Thrash and Lane Whittington giving chase.
Godwin holds a meager two-point lead over fellow Florida racer T.J. Winegardner, with the balance of the top five including Shane Morgan, Doug Day and Brian Thomas.
Saturday night's racing action is set to fire off at 7:00 p.m.
The high-banked, 3/8-mile Southern Raceway clay oval is located east of Pensacola, FL, off I-10 Exit 31, then 2.1 miles south on State Road 87, then 0.6 miles east on State Road 184. For more information, contact the track at 850-623-2333.
The ASCS Coastal Region is slated to contest 20 events at a dozen different tracks throughout Mississippi and the surrounding area including portions of Alabama, Florida, Louisiana and Texas.
The ASCS Rebel Region sanctions Sprint Car racing throughout Georgia, Alabama and North Florida, with a dozen events at nine different tracks currently on the slate.
The 2007 season marks the 16th year of sanctioning Sprint Car racing for the American Sprint Car Series. With 12 different Regions in addition to the O'Reilly American Sprint Cars on Tour National series, ASCS will sanction approximately 240 nights of racing at more than 100 different race tracks throughout at least 30 different states and Canada.
