Southern Sportsman Series and Florida Mini Stock Challenge head North to Columbia Motorsports Park | by Rick Warren
The race fans in North Florida have always enjoyed great racing, as evidenced by the increasing fan attendance at Columbia Motorsports Park in Lake City. They should really enjoy this Saturdays’ (April 21) racing program, as the always exciting Florida Mini Stock Challenge Series and the Southern Sportsman Series roll onto the fast ½ mile Speedway for some great racing action.
The Mini Stock Racers, with Points leader Robbie Storer, are looking forward to the chance to improve their standings in the race for the Championship. Storer, winner of the last series race, has always run well at CMP, and will be looking to make it two in a row. Cody Blair, second in points, has had two excellent races this season, and insiders say it’s only a matter of time until the young man from Winter Park gets his first series win. The series is filled with great racecars and very talented drivers, and the CMP race has traditionally been filled with action and surprises. With two and three wide racing, the race is up for grabs.
Series director Scott Jackman says this race has generated a lot of interest.
In fact, Jackman says “ we have three entries coming all the way from Texas to run this race”. Can the Texans run with the FMSC hot-shoes? Come find out.
Also on hand for their turn at the ½ mile will be the Southern Sportsman Series. This series has grown tremendously over the last two seasons, and has provided some of the greatest racing action in Florida. Steve Gainey, last years champion and winner of the last series race, has won at CMP before. Arthur Conquest, current points leader and winner of the first series race this season, has won at CMP this year.
Richard Elkins Jr, third in points, has been right on the edge of a break-out season, as his car has been very fast at every race. The list of drivers with a better than even shot at winning this race is lengthy indeed. Ronnie Heard Jr, Craig Cuzzone, Aaron Williamson, Derrik Heath, Mark Peterson, Roger Welch, and the list goes on. Michael Carr and Joey Catarelli are both off to a good start in their chase for the rookie title, with both drivers having good runs so far this season.
You won’t want to miss this show. It’s going to be action packed excitement on the CMP ½ mile. Hope to see you there!
