Brannon Goodyear Challenge Challenges Brannon Racing | by Bill Green, Brannon Racing
BRONSON, Fla. -- Drew Brannon and the Brannon Specialties Team traveled to Bronson Motor Speedway for this weeks Goodyear Challenge event. After some 350 miles of travel the team immediately prepared for a practice session on Friday night on the 1/3 mile high banked asphalt oval.
Loss of the clutch and a broken shock mount ended the Friday practice early for young Brannon, but kept the crew working late into the night to prepare for Saturdays main event.
Saturday went well at first as Drew qualified 9th in the field of 17 Late Models. The pole sitter drew the 0 pill, so the field would start straight up on time, putting the #08 inside row 5 in 9th. The temperature dropped fast as the Easter Bunny made his way to Bronson Motor Speedway for this third outing for the Goodyear Challenge Late Model Series. And the cold track, combined with cold tires did not help the start as it took three starts to get the race underway and even then, disaster was immanent.
Drew Brannon wheeled the #08 Brannon Specialties machine to the outside lane on each of the initial start attempts. Picking off one or two cars on each of the first two restarts. But it would be restart number three that would be the culprit, as Brannon made his move to the outside, front runners made mistakes and started the crash that claimed the #08 and ended the night early for Drew with a broken right front A-frame. This was a bitter disappointment for the driver and the team, as now two races in a row had the Brannon Racing entry listed as DNF.
The next opportunity for the Team to show their true abilities will be back at DeSoto Super Speedway on April 14th when the All American Challenge Series holds its next event. Followed by the Orlando Speed World, Friday night April 27th running of the Goodyear Challenge Series. You can also now visit Drew Brannon and the Brannon Specialties Team at www.DrewBrannon.com.
So we'll look forward to seeing you at the races!
