Southern Sportsman Series And Florida Mini Stocks Gear Up For Orlando | Southern Sportsman Series
*And*
*Florida Mini Stock Challenge Series*
By Rick Warren
The racers of the Southern Sportsman Series, along with the Florida Mini Stock Challenge, are putting final touches on their racecars in preparation for Friday nights’ action at Orlando Speedworld. After the opening race at Bronson Motor Speedway, both series are anxious to return to action. The chase for the points championship, although early in the season, is already heating up.
Last years Champion, Steve Gainey, currently sits in third place in the standings, while Aaron Williamson, Champion in 2004 and 2005, is right behind in fifth spot. Arthur Conquest is sitting atop the points race, and has said that he feels that this year he will be able to make a serious run at the championship.
After being close to winning several times last season, only to have bad luck and some equipment failures take him out of contention, Conquest said after his win at Bronson,” hopefully we have gotten the bugs out of the car, and with a little but of good luck, I think we can do very well this year, but we’ll have to wait and see how it shakes out”
Last years Champion, Steve Gainey, has made no secret of his intent to repeat as champion, while Williamson also has plans of regaining his title. The Southern Sportsman racers all like running at Orlando’s high banked speedway, and the competition will be fierce.
In the Mini Stock Challenge Series, the points race will crown a new champion this season, as last years Champion Chris Thornton has decided to only run selected races this season. 2004 and 2005 Champion Dustin Deschamps has Moved on to the Sunbelt SLM series, and the Hooters Circuit.
Richard Kelly moved into the lead with his win at Bronson, followed by the always competitive Robbie Storer in second. The FMSC racers also enjoy racing at Orlando as the track is well suited to their two and sometimes three wide racing. The second race of the season should be very exciting as the racers all feel the need to finish as high up as possible to stay in the hunt for the championship.
Join the racers this Friday night at Orlando Speedworld for some exciting southern short track racing. Be there for all the action, speed and thrills.
