New Smyrna Speedway opens 2007 Season with Goodyear Challenge 100 this Saturday, March 17 | WELCOME BACK New Smyrna Speedway proudly announces the opening of the 2007 race season this Saturday night, March 17, with the best Late Model Series in the state - the Goodyear Challenge Late Models. Along with their 100 lap event will be the Pro Trucks, Open Wheel Modifieds, Sportsman, Super Stock, Mini Stock and Strictly Stock. Racing for everyone.
Coming off his first win of the year is Travis Cope he now leads the points in the Goodyear Challenge Late Model Series. Twenty four Late Models were at USA International on Saturday, March 10 as Daniel Keene Jr. set fast time. Forty five laps were run under green before the first caution flag waved, hopefully the same for this weekend at New Smyrna.
2005 and 2006 Goodyear Champion Rich Clouser was second at Lakeland. "We had a really good car," said Rich in Victory. Lane. "Bobby always gives me a good car to run. Second at Lakeland is great and we are very pleased with the start of our 2007 season. Now it is on to New Smyrna next Saturday."
Pit gate will open at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 17. The Goodyear Challenge Late Models will have a one hour practice session alone from 3 to 4 p.m. with division practice to follow. Qualifying for the 100 lap event will be at 6:30 p.m. with racing action starting at 7:30 p.m. Grandstands will open at 6 p.m. with general admission $20.00, students and seniors $15.00, children 11 and under free.
"We always look forward to the new year and old and new faces," said General Manager Terry Roberts. "Alot of the racers have not been on the new asphalt yet and this will also be a quick learning time for them. But we have a great group of racers and we are very proud of them. Plus we have some pretty great fans also."
