Mike Marcellino has Good SpeedWeeks

This past weekend, local racecar driver Mike Marcellino, participated in the 41st Annual World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing held at New Smyrna Speedway in New Smyrna Beach, Florida. This was Mike’s first race in the FASCAR Pro-Truck Series and first time racing on the newly repaved track in New Smyrna. Friday night proved to be a challenge for Mike as he was up against some of the best racecar drivers from all over the country. He was able to keep his #14 Dodge truck out of trouble for 25 laps and cruise to a 21st place finish.

When asked about his first truck race Mike replied, “It was awesome! I had rubber and dirt flying at my truck and coming through the window net and hitting my helmet. It was the best feeling in the world!”

Saturday, Mike was a little more prepared for what he was up against and determined to finish is first 50 lap feature race. There were plenty of wrecks and caution flags, but nothing was able to stop Mike from racing his way to an 11th place finish out of a starting field of 26 drivers.

Mike was very pleased with his race and where he ended up; he felt that he got the seat time and experience to prepare him for the upcoming season.

When asked about his goals for this year Mike commented, “I am hoping to get some top 10’s and top 5’s. What would mean the most to me would be getting a first place victory at Columbia Motorsports Park, because that’s my home turf and I feel very comfortable with that track and my ability to maneuver my way around it.”

Mike also shared some of his goals for his racing future, “I’ve always loved auto-racing and now I am getting the chance to live out one of my childhood dreams.” “My biggest goal is to be the youngest rookie in NASCAR,” Mike said with a laugh, “but I doubt my wife would let me!”

Mike currently resides in Lake City, Florida with his wife Sue and their three dogs. Together they have three children and two grandchildren. Mike and Sue own and operate Lake City Christian Supply; the store is also one of the sponsor’s of Mike’s truck along with Autohaus of Lake City.

Mike started driving in 1990 in Hialeah, Florida at Hialeah Speedway. The track recently became a historic landmark in south Florida and is also the place where NASCAR legends Bobby Allison and the late Davey Allison got their start.

After a ten year hiatus, Mike started racing again at Columbia Motorsports Park in 2005. In 2006, Mike won the track championship in the #3 car for the Hornet class, only missing one race and accumulating 773 points, 277 points ahead of second place.

In January of 2007, Mike started MJM Racing and currently owns two Dodge race trucks. Mike’s next race is at New Smyrna Speedway on March 31st, it is also the first race of the season for the FASCAR Pro-Truck Series.
